There is speculation linking this fellow with Spurs and Arsenal. He was a stand out performer in La Liga last year. He plays mostly on the flanks but is also adept in central midfield.

So FCBarca & Homeo what say thee on the qualities of Cazorla?

He's a quality player. He'd cost an arm and a leg, though, wouldn't he?

The daily mail say that Spurs will have to double his wages to 75000 a week! Also it seems that Malaga are in some financial trouble so I don't think that it would take extortionate amounts to get him.

He would. Malaga are rich, qualified for Champions League and bought him for €20m only a year ago. No value.

An obligatory video? Grand!

This is the reason he might be available...

"Four Malaga players - Cazorla, Van Nistelrooy, Mathijsen and Rondón - have officially denounced the club for unpaid amounts of their contracts. None of the four were present at the squad meeting last Friday with the President of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) - Luis Rubiales - in which other players at the club said that they were talking to the club in order to defer payment of the amounts owed. These amounts are said to be between 35 and 40 percent of their salaries.

Sources close to Malaga believe that the four players – who are very influential at the club - could withdraw their denunciations in the coming hours. Santi Cazorla – a European Championship winner with Spain – is said to be off the radar, as he is away on holiday after the competition; Venezuelan Salomón Rondón wanted to leave the club, but the club has allegedly spoken to him and he is now willing to withdraw his allegation.

The situation appears to be similar with Van Nistelrooy and Mathijsen, who are also away on holiday after the Euros. Both Dutch players are represented by the same agent.

The denunciations were sent to the AFE, who transmitted the events to the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (National Professional Football League). The employer’s organisation immediately notified Malaga so that the club could respond as it deemed necessary. The deadline for reporting the club ended on 15th July.

The Joint Committee - formed by the AFE - will meet on the 25th July, and the league and clubs with debts will have until 31st July to pay them off. If this does not happen, they will be expelled from professional football and go down to Segunda B."

Aren't Malaga owned by some Qataris with feckloads of money? Why would they be defaulting on wages?

I haven't followed their story tbh, not sure why things are happening the way they have been...I do know that Hierro left for reasons that were related to the ownership

I'd have said he's more Nasri than Nani. And that youtube video was shit. Two corners and a couple of nice plays.

This is the reason he might be available...

They made a statement,

"Malaga football club would like to communicate that, at the expense of finalising the relevant administrative procedures, the players that had made a claim against the club have withdrawn it and agreed to a payment method that the rest of the first team squad had already agreed to."

So problem might be over, but who knows.

What? Malaga are owned by rich dudes. How are they in financial trouble?

I'm also pretty sure that if you double his wages he gets more than 75k per week. He was a star player at Villarreal before his move and a Spain regular.

Listening to a podcast the other day and Grahan Hunter said that they had a massive tax bill that they have yet to pay, also, as others said; they owe wages to several players. Things are not going so smooth.

Also, Rondon would be a fantastic punt for someone.

Didn't this happen last season too where the owners literally forgot and needed reminding. Once they reminded them they paid the wages and just gave the club a ton more cash to hold over till they forget on or something

Quality player, no way we'd get him though. Not sure he'd that adept at central midfield either.

He's the bees' knees. The only reason he doesn't play every game for Spain is Andres Iniesta. Fancy him most as an inside right, but he's more than comfortable in the middle.

So FCBarca & Homeo what say thee on the qualities of Cazorla?

I rate him very highly. More than Mata for example and del Bosque seems to agree, putting Cazorla clearly ahead of Mata and only behind Iniesta in the pecking order for the left attacking midfield spot. He can play everywhere in offensive midfield and although I wouldn't disagree with Brwned that he's basically a Nasri type of player, he's also got more to his game than Nasri. Like Iniesta Cazorla can clearly dictate a game from deeper central positions as he did against Real Madrid here which someone like Nasri can't:

He also doesn't drift in and out of games as much as Nasri and he's not a dressing room poisoner. He's quite good at freekicks as well as prolific from open play. His defensive contribution is quite good for an attacking midfielder and his long balls are quite accurate. 2-footed as well and a good dribbler. He could easily be deployed alongside Carrick in a 2 man midfield and play the Scholes role. I would have liked to see him start even ahead of Silva at the Euros tbh with Silva being relatively disappointing throughout the tournament bar the first group game. After Iniesta he's the next best attack-minded Spanish midfielder currently in my book. He was the main reason for Malaga reaching a CL spot and sadly his departure was also one of the main reasons for Villarreal's relegation. If Arsenal get him and play 4-3-3 with Cazorla-Wilshere-Song they'll have the best central midfield in the Premier League as far as I'm concerned.

From Homeo's analysis is quite obvious that we need to sign this sucker up. SAF loves a player that can play multiple postions and would probably be able to add centre back to his repertoire in our annual and humiliating cup defeat to a team from the lower leagues. Essentially, Carloza is a cheaper and better version of Lucas, it is about time we signed one of these silky outfield Spanish players.

Lets get it on.

It raises the question of who is actually funding the club. This time it's rumoured they've agreed to pay some of the wages owed this month and the rest in November, which sounds more like a business struggling with cashflow than a pet project being showered with cash.

Their president, Abdullah Al Thani, has been complaining about La Liga TV money (not about "fairer shares" he thinks fourth placed Malaga can get more by renegotiating) and posted a photo of a horse that he said is, "worth more than any footballer." So, the questions arise: bored with his toy? Somebody else has/hasn't the cash and he's just the spokesman? Football's a business and he's a businessman?

Anyway, things aren't looking that comfortable for the club right now so if Cazorla is restless it'll be part of a pattern, not an isolated thing.

Osasuna have now denounced Malaga for non payment of transfer fees. Villareal have had to denounce Malaga again as Malaga have failed to send through even the renegotiated stage payment for Cazorla.

If it isn't resolved by the end of the month it's probable that Malaga will lose their CL place. So presumably it will be resolved. However, it continues to add up to a picture in which Malaga's sugar daddy isn't that sweet.

If Cazorla's not for for sale now, then he may be in January - when a whole bunch of payments, including the first team squad's delayed wages, will have become due.

Malaga paid a lot for him (well said they would) so if they sort his payments out and then sell him, he'd probably cost a lot

There are allegations that Malaga who are owned by super rich Qatari owners are actually struggling with cash flow. Can anybody shed any light on this issue?

Despite Qatari ownership, the club hasn't gone about 'improvements' the way City, PSG etc. have...They are approaching things far more modestly & quietly...Focus on the academies and addressing their massive debt while trying to build a project for the future...The Qatari family who own the club have been fairly quiet themselves and have yet to directly address a lot of the issues publicly that are cropping up...So it's anyone's guess what their plans are...I imagine part of it involves their unhappiness with the revenue deals/sharing on TV rights and the combo of wages/debts...Plus, they see many clubs in Spain are excused for their debts and payment delays which might be a learned tactic - just speculating...There is money, obviously, with the Qatari family but they've been pretty frugal in terms of putting their own money into the club...Something will have to give...I mentioned this earlier in the summer when Hierro left the club due to disagreements on the vision for the club's future - for me, that signaled bad news on the horizon

Arsenal would be a good fit for the player, would make sense for a variety of reasons

Hopefully it might mean Isco can be pried away as well...Rondon the same, I imagine

No one really knows what's going on with Malaga. Whether the money's there or not. Whether the real owners are interested in the club or not. What's certain is that a lot of Liga clubs are late in making payments to the players, to other clubs, to the taxman.

Whereas people accept "cashflow" as an excuse from most clubs, and are busily rescheduling debts, they won't accept is an excuse from Malaga (though they did agree to it last year). Malaga have told their players they'll pay them in November and the players have said they'll wait.

However Osasuna and Villareal are owed transfer money and they will have to paid this month, else Malaga lose the CL slot. Atletico get the CL place if that happens and Osasuna get into the Europa League. At its most extreme there's even a scenario in which Malaga can be relegated and Villareal come back into Liga I.

Everyone assumes that Malaga's owners will do just enough to avoid crashing out of the CL, but no one knows for sure, because no one knows why they aren't paying their debts.

For Spanish readers (and google translate enthusiasts) here's AS summarising what they and the rest of the Spanish press (don't) know.

excellent signing for arsenal (if they agree fee with Malaga)

will restrict Oxlade Chamberlain's opportunities though

Arsenal's big problem will be replacing Van Persie's goals though

Wenger could try to buy Berbatov - may not be a best fit for arsenals style but he will score goals

I hope signing Giroud & Podolski would solve that, as they have scored 15plus goals last season.

i don't know about Girouds ability/potential but I would have serious doubts about Podolski

thinking about it arsenal are very well stocked on the left

oxlade-chamberlain/gervinho/podolski/carzola

i imagine carzola will start in a midfield 3 and podolski will play on the left of a front 3 off giroud?

Gervinho is a headless chicken - just gets the head down and runs

Yes, if Carzola is really going to come, then he will play the role Rosicky played last season.

Podolski--Giroud--Walcott/Chamberlain would be possibly how we will lineup most of the season; however Podolski might be rotated with Giroud for central role & Gervinho would be brought in.

Gervinho may not have had a good season but he has the attributes to be more than just a headless chicken. We are expecting him to step up this season.
