Sanna Marin

If these videos are recent (or even if they are not) I find it odd that everyone comments "meh let her live life!"

It is odd to see the leader of a country like that. I feel the reactions would be more annoyed if it was your typical beer belly male politician.

Well, sure. Because most leaders of a country aren't 36 years old.

This is exactly what I would expect from a 36 year old leader of a country in their private time though. She doesn't (or shouldn't) have to behave like she's 20-odd years older than she is just to fit in with the mostly 50-60 somethings who typically occupy those roles.

There's plenty of everyday activities it would be odd to see a leader do, that doesn't make them a scandal if they happened to be filmed.

Like what? Living a normal life? Politicians do worst than that. If drinking and having some fun is considered wrong then that just highlights what's wrong with the outdated political system.

The way I see it, you forego certain activities of a normal life when you are the leader of the state. I want to see the person leading the people be responsible to a higher standard than normal folk.

I get this sentiment, but she was just dancing.

Right, so I don't think this is something to resign over or anything but it does look and seem a little odd from a nations leader. It could also be damaging to their image in a world where opponents are out to get you.

So if a person parties they are lowering their standards? She wasn't hurting anyone. Maybe if some politicians start "lowering their standards" they'll do a better job because their "high standards" ain't that impressive. Maybe if they go out there and live like normal folks they can relate better instead of looking down on us on their imaginary thrones.

What is odd about dancing?

I'd say the world should take note and change.

Didn't Theresa May dance on camera once? Only difference is that she's shit at it. And not a hot 36 year old.

I think this could be something we see more of, generational gaps when it comes to things like defining respectability or decorum in our political leaders. Those concepts are flawed and outdated in this sense, as someone who ushers in legislation and agendas in a sharp suit that harm the vulnerable could be considered respectable, but someone doing the opposite with a shabby suit and makes tiktoks would be lacking respect for his office.

I'm speaking solely from a British (unfortunately) perspective here, but if you went to a specific set of universities, speak with a posh accent and come from wealth, whatever you do is done under the guise of "respectability".

This would be fine if we had respectable leaders in charge of countries but we don't so clearly that higher standard isn't being met either way.

I'd rather a young (by political standards) woman has some fun and is still able to do her job dutifully than tries to act in a way unbecoming to her.

Fair points and maybe I am part of that world that has to change or evolve. I just know on first look, to me, it does look odd and not what I would associate with being a president or prime minister.

That's just because of the kind of people (older, usually men) that tend to be country leaders. (As you're kinda suggesting already.)

Essentially, what she's doing here is no different than someone spending the day playing golf with their friends and then having a nice dinner after: it's just socializing in a way that your group at that stage in its life enjoys. Because leaders don't tend to be lively 30-somethings, it's not usually like what Marin was doing here. But that doesn't mean it's wrong or undignified, that's the wrong conclusion.

I mean, sure, a country's PM dancing around and partying is not something I'm particularly fond of, but does that make her worse than our modest, non-partying (let's pretend on this one), climate change denying, capitalist corporation boot licking politicians that we have here in the UK?

This is literally a story for the PC gone mad thread. How can someone be slightly bothered by someone else having fun?
It's not just anybody. It's a woman (they're not controlling) in actual power. That makes a lot of people uncomfortable.

First ones I found in English. It's breaking news in our national press.
Ok. Didn't know your press is that weird.

Her position isn't in any kind of danger, nor is this important or interesting thing anywhere else than in the tabloids though. So this whole thread is rather bizarre.

She should be poisoning her opponents and invading neighbouring countries. The bitch.

I'm more curious about something else, unrelated to this thread.

Were you all dancing topless in your 30s? The world is wilder than I thought!

Dancing topless? Yeah, I fully admit that I was dancing topless in my 30s, as long as that gives me imunity for all the other shit I did in my 30s.

I don't understand why this even registers a thought or concern in anyone's mind. It's such an absolute nothing burger that I feel they must just be looking for something to be annoyed about. Person in their 30's lives their life like anyone else in their own time when they're finished work.

As long as she was off duty then I don't see the problem. Normally the prime minister needs to be available in case of emergency, but this responsibility can be delegated. If this wasn't done, then it is a problem.

I don't see the scandal.

I'm as anti-social as any caftard but even I can't really see what's wrong with what she's done unless she just previously ordered everyone else not to do it (like that blonde in london did). Ok that was a lie, I secretley believe social skills are inversely proportionate to the amount of posts/year. Still working on the formula.

Do think someone slightly older would just go ahead and say "feck you get a life" to the accusers.

Someone slightly more of an older white male more like.
Perhaps. However I do still hope she does in a day or 2.

The gammon gonna love being told to get a life by a powerful woman

If she was a he would there be any controversy over the dancing? Doubt it.

The kind of "standards" that are demanded from female politicians are stricter than for male politicians, and that is just wrong. It's almost as if they expect her to behave like some kind of nun or reverend mother while holding the job of Prime Minister, and that's pretty rich considering how many male presidents and prime ministers around the world did quite some reprehensible stuff while in office. A POTUS even shagged Marilyn Monroe despite being married to quite a very beautiful woman.

The world has been crying for younger and fresher faces in politics for years. I'm glad that Marin shows that other part of her life just to remind all of us that there is a right for free time while off-duty like any responsible adult would have. Regardless, I have seen nothing such as drugs, public drinking nor anything that breaks any law here. COVID restrictions are no longer a thing over there since the very end of June.

By the way, a number of Danish women made dancing videos on TikTok as means to support Marin. Sounds to me the message is clear: criticism is simply over the top.

Well said.

The sooner the World is shot of the old pompus men running society/World the better the rest of us will be.
