Samuel Umtiti

@Damien There is no way Phil Jones is 180cm.
They're the stats off the interwebs so don't shoot the messenger.

Bump to new page:

Laporte and van Dijk's stats include their Athletic and Southampton numbers. Umtiti seems fine, though in England he'd be facing taller players on the whole and more balls in the air.

Umtiti's game is more about anticipation, positioning and composure, he is physically solid but he isn't special in that department, he isn't particularly dominant in the air but he isn't weak.

Would be awesome if we pulled this off. However cant see Barca being stupid enough to let him go without at least offering a bumper new contract.

We willing to pay his buyout clause which is £53M and offer him 9M Euros a year.

Would be a fantastic signing but.... not going to happen

Seems to me like we're just being used by his agent to get Umtiti a pay rise at Barca. Again. We've been every agents favorite bargaining chip for years now. It's getting old. Unfortunately we're just not at the level of Barca at the moment so I can't see why any of their first 11 would want to make the switch to us. Unless he's just in it for the money. Would be a fantastic signing though don't get me wrong.

The reports say Umtiti would rather stay at Barcelona so this is a non story for me. At least at the moment anyway. There is no chance Barcelona will let Umtiti go, he's their only top class centre back with his best years ahead of him.

As others have noted, that partnership would be quite vulnerable to crosses, set pieces and long balls.
I think we'd be fine at set pieces with Matic, Pogba, Lukaku, McTominay etc and crosses/long balls are more about positioning and Bailly/Umtiti are smart players. Not that I think there is a chance in hell we're gonna get Umtiti.

Honestly don't like buying defenders from teams that rarely have to defend. He'll spend half his time watching Barca midfield and forwards passing the ball around lol. Let's look at players that have proven the know how to defend for long periods in games....

Umtiti is not the right partner for Bailly, I'm sure Mourinho would recognize that before anyone else. It's probably just his agent trying to get his client a better deal.

We could send Jones, Smalling the other way....that should clinch it!

Are there any stories about him wanting to leave Barcelona? Because it seems like he is getting enough playtime so why would he want to leave sunny Barcelona where he plays Champions League every year and picks up a La Liga title every other year?

I like how his name is pronounced, Um-titi.

This signing clearly indicates we are about to announce Tinder as our sleeve sponsor, we are going all titties and Chongs.

Also can't wait to hear Martin Tyler scream his name Macheda style after he scores for us in the UCL final.
Martin Tyler - Chong with a ball towards Um-titi.. Oh yesssss, it's Um-titiiiiiiii!!

I agreee with the latter part, it reeks of the standard game of using United to get the current club to pay up, but who do you think is the idea partner for Bailly?

Yeah we should have signed Michael Keane because he was always defending for Burnley.

Terrible logic.

/mmm-titty/

Bit of a non story for me, didn't this exact same thing happen with Ramos? Yawn

We are also pretty stacked at CB, so unless we have a clear out I don't think we are in for one

He's a £100m level defender for me.. if there is any chance of pairing him up with Bailly, we need to throw the kitchen sink at it. We'd win the league easily with those two as CB's.

No way it's happening and I actually, and sadly, can't see why he would be interested in such move. He's been brilliant this season though, could be he's among top3 CBs this year.

Yep, very literal response cause did I say the player needed to be rubbish at defending too? Logic isn't that terrible as how the hell can you assess a defender when he's playing for a team that spends 80% in the opponents half and 80% with the ball? That said, I'm pretty sure there we more that strong links about signing Keane anyway lol

If anything, maintaining the concentration levels while only being called upon few times a match is what we should be looking at. Qualities required here are much closer to a barca than a west brom where the guy is used to 2 banks of 4 backs to the wall shite all game.

We are stacked in terms of numbers but not talent. We need a top CB to go with Bailly imo. With 1 or 2 leaving.

How about Bailly - Toby - Umtiti as three in the back and play a Juve style 3-5-2 or 3-4-3
With DDG behind them, we would be almost impossible to score against

Easily win the league with 1 CB signing?

Sure

Now that's more like it. A truly world class defence befitting of United.

I would agree somewhat, but Jose has already said we need 2 midfielders and he's been pretty constant in his praise for Jones etc.

I cant see a major addition at CB this summer, other areas of the squad need more attention.

This is just garbage talk anyway, it's never going to happen
