Samuel Umtiti

He’ll be the best CB in the world within the next year (for me he’s already close) so he’s a bargain at that price.

That said, this an absolute non-starter. No chance he leaves Barca and he’ll sign a new deal with a £150m+ release clause soon.

He's the best in the world for me, I can't see anybody else above him at the moment. And I agree, there is nothing in this. He's happy in Barcelona and they're going to announce his new contract soon that will completely change the release clause to an insurmountable amount. He's young and he's their future in defense.

It takes PSG money to unsettle most players but Barcelona can keep players without overpaying due to many aspiring to play at the club

Umtiti is settled and is going nowhere, the board will deservedly improve his contract and increase that paltry buyout
 The club with the highest wage bill in the world

I’d give my left nut for Umtiti signing for us and I can make that statement without fear for my left nut because Umtiti is now for me the best centre back in the world and won’t be leaving Barca, I’ve been reading reports pretty much from the seconf Messi signed a new contract that Barca’s priority now is Umtiti.

Best CB in the world right now, he has been at this level since his debut. Only 24 years old. Is consistent as feck, I can count a handful of games he's been subpar. Let's see how he does in terms of trophies, 2018 is pretty important for a player.

Having said that, not really concerned about the release clause, if he's happy with the wages, and we are fighting for CL every year, can't see any team snatching him, even if its 60m.

They are apparently going to offer him 2+ years bringing him to 2023 with a release clause of €200m. I really don't see him leaving, he's a fan of the club, the fans love him too and he's playing in the current best team in the world this season and thriving.

I didn't think so many people would be saying so too, but I have to agree he's the best in the world for me also this season. He looks completely unstoppable, seems to win every ball. He's a monster physically, has massive talent, and backs it up with great intelligence, has it all. I think he's great to watch too. Some of his defensive touches and interceptions have been majestic, and he has an elegance about him, which isn't normally said about a defender. Check out 2.29 of the video below to see how easily he dispatches Bale and then Benzema, while making it looks effortless. (Tip: mute before watching or your ears might bleed)

Anyway, Ive slathered you with enough praise Umtiti. Fin.

Haven't seen him play since his Lyon days where I didn't think he stood out too much but evidently I was wrong if the things people say about are true. If he is legitimately a top CB then 60m is a steal and I think it would probably signal the end for Smalling or potentially a switch to a 3ATB.

Looks like someone read my thread, anyway :smirk:

To be fair, this has always been the plan - there was an order of priority in terms of renewals and even the player acknowledged he was fine to wait until his turn which was believed to be summer 2018. With the increased speculation, club looks like they are trying to demonstrate they are taking it seriously, that they value the player and he will get the renewal he has earned

The Star/Sun etc are more reliable than Don Balon

This. Terrible source.

'Beastly blow' though

40% of that huge wage bill is on Messi though, apparently

Apparently they have to pay Messi only 100m € per year as he aspires so much to play for them.

Barca people are similar to Bayern people in that regard. We too always spout BS how players "pass on the chance to earn more elsewhere" to play for the great FCB on a honorary basis.

There is no better CB around and available. We drastically need to upgrade 1 x CB, as we're not winning any major honours with Jones, Smalling, Rojo and Bailly. Bailly and Umtiti would be a cracking partnership, IMO. Get it done, Woodward.

Would be the perfect partner for Bailly as he plays on left and is very good at bringing the ball out from the back which is something we are quite poor at.

How is his heading ability? as that's one of Bailly's weaknesses.

Ain't gonna happen lads, don't get your hopes up.
Didn't realize he just turned 24,almost 10 years at the top level left in him, no way Barca is letting him go.

Bring him in. Get rid of the unreliable Jones who has disappeared yet again.

Umtiti would be a good buy for us. Similar to Varane in a sense.

Any of those two and Alderweireld would be a great partner for Bailly.

He would be the dream signing for me.
We have to do everything to make it happen.

I don't want to ruin the party, but isn't he a bit short for a CB? He looks shorter than Bailly, and those two as a parthership would be very vulnerable at long balls.

Koulibaly is another good bet.
Any one of those 4 would give us an enviable CB pairing...

Isn't Koulibaly a bit meh in the air despite being a huge guy?
I remember someone talking about him and saying something about how he's not the greatest header of the ball.

Not to mention Chelsea had a bid of 60 mill? rejected like 2 years ago, I don't think he's worth that amount.
The only CBs I would pay above 50 mill are Umtiti, Alderweireld and maybe Varane.
So glad we got Bailly relatively cheap

same height as otamendi, and he's arguably the best defender in the air in the epl. Umtiti is extremely athletic, he has springs in his legs. He will be fine.

Certainly one of the best, I'd say.

He isn't even one of the best. If one of the best extends upto 10 or more CBs then maybe.

Just with a quick search, VVD, Smalling, Jones have better duel win % than Otamendi, he wins 57% aerial duels which is bit low for CBs.

Laporte and van Dijk's stats include their Athletic and Southampton numbers. Umtiti seems fine, though in England he'd be facing taller players on the whole and more balls in the air.
