Samuel Eto'o

Your wrong...so I'll correct you. Cantona wasn't young and was only up for sale cos his ego had fecked his career up at several other clubs....Fergie was well aware of it. That said, I see your point but I dont think his ego would have a bad effect on our dressing room...he'd be an outcast if it was

Cantona wasnt nearly as highly regarded before he joined us. SAF made him into the legend he eventually became.

Eto'o on the other hand, was already an established first choice at arguably the best team in the world (dont crucify me for that statement). He has insane wages, is winning trophies and so forth. Why do Barca seem so desperate to be rid of him in those circumstances?

Finally, we are meant to have a policy of not paying big for players over 27 (or was it 28). Either way, Eto'o is growing old, and seeings as pace has been a reasonable part of his game, it is fair to say he will decline somewhat within the next few years.

So, Samuel Eto'o wont be going to Man City. As long as he's available, you never know what Fergie will do. This will confirm how much trust he has in the potential of Welbeck and Macheda. If we sign him then thats 4 senior strikers and surely one of the youngsters will be going out on loan.

Would be a great signing and would replace ronaldo's goals. If barca are really getting villa then I think that Eto'o is going to go. As I was saying in one of my earlier posts, if he was going to go to city he would have signed with them already.

I'm going to make a bold prediction here.

I predict that Owen will score more goals for United than Eto'o will for City.

I dont think SAF has a problem with bringing in players with big ego's, but nor does he have a problem getting rid of them - as Ruud and to an extent, Ronaldo, has shown (amongst others).
I reckon Eto'o would cause a lot of disharmony in the dressing room, and if SAF agrees then he wont touch the guy, regardless of history.
Agreed. Fergie has no problem with players with ego's, as long as it doesn't get out of control and hurt the team morale or threaten his position as boss. Becks, Ruud and Keano are all examples of that, once they crossed that line they were out.

The question Fergie would be asking himself is whether he thinks Eto's ego is managable. The fact we don't seem to be in for him (plus the signing of Owen) indicates that he thinks it's not.

Zlatan would be an example of a player who has a massive ego but doesn't seem to hurt the team morale (not to mention the obvious one in Ronaldo).

Another lifeline for the muppets?

Samuel Eto'o hopeful of making £18 million Manchester United move
Despite the collapse of his proposed move to Manchester City, Samuel Eto'o is still hopeful of securing a transfer to the Premier League – with Manchester United

..........

It is understood the player wanted as much as a £13 million share, on top of the wages of £200,000 per week City were offering. City will now concentrate on wrapping up a deal to sign Carlos Tevez, expected to be confirmed this week, and on their continued pursuit of Chelsea's John Terry.

United would be able to get Eto'o for significantly cheaper than City, with the 28 year-old eager to play in the Champions League. One source in Spain suggested that United are prepared to offer Eto'o £150,000 per week, but said there is a problem with his demand for a four-year contract.

Sir Alex Ferguson is apparently a long-standing admirer of the player, who scored the opening goal against United in Barcelona's 2-0 Champions League final victory in May.

Eto'o's wage demands have painted the player into a corner. His relationship with Barcelona has deteriorated dramatically, culminating in his rejection of a proposed contract extension – sent by text message - on the same wage terms of his current deal, believed to be £130,000 per week.

He made it clear he wants to leave on Friday, having been angered by comments made about him by Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

Eto'o's other options are limited. Long-standing suitors AC Milan have decided to try and sign Brazil striker Luis Fabiano from Sevilla instead, while Inter Milan and Chelsea have identified targets in other areas.

150k a week .. no thanks

ronaldo was our top earner at 120k and he deserved it ..
eto'o coming in and getting more than rooney , rio , berbatov ..
hope that never happens

I'd take him at 150k, it's a lot for a player that hasnt done anything for a club yet, but look what he did for Barcelona over his career there. Hell I think his goal won Barca the CL Final. I'd prefer Kun but when you look at the price of only 18 million for a player of his caliber, I think that the large salary is justified I mean hell that is a little more than half of what United paid spurs for Berbatov.

Leave all those negotiations up to the club

If we got Eto'o we'd be getting one of the best players in the game, arguably the best striker in the world

Sign him up Fergie that's what I say!

I don't think we would give in to Eto'o's wage demands. I'd love if he joined United but it's a transfer I cannot see happening.

why would United have a problem with him wanting a four year deal though?

I suppose it could happen, I don't imagine we're not tempted and it would make sence that this one could drag on perhaps forcing Barcalona to lower the asking price

Barcalona are in a real shitty position and surely something is better then nothing. Even if he sat out his contract, would his performances be what you'd expect and would the bad vibes filter through the club

Eto'o is the level we hope our young lads reach. He's in his prime.

I would like us to sign him personally. I think we could work it without loaning either kiko or welbeck out too when you look at the cups and the possibilities of injuries/internationals

Having said all that - we'd have to be interested first :)

ALEX FERGUSON is aiming to snatch Samuel Eto'o from under the noses of Manchester City with a £25million bid.

The Barcelona striker told club president Joan Laporta he'd be leaving the Nou Camp just hours before City ended their interest.

That left Manchester United with a clear run at the Cameroon international and they are ready to offer him a four-year deal on £150,000-a-week

Eto'o is also seeking more money based on appearances and goals.

Agent Jose Maria Masalles said: "At 28 he wants to join a club which will give him another chance of winning trophies.

"It can't be just about money. It has to be about the sporting project."

United will make it clear they will not be kept waiting and will not increase their offer.

City offered £25m plus £180,000-a-week wages after tax but did not like the player's delaying

confirmation? let's face it. The news of the world should know :nono:

If I remember well SAF had said that he wont spend important amounts of money on players who are older then 25

If I remember well, that was just a quoteless Guardian article, probably meant to explain why their claim we're signing Ribery isn't gonna happen.

Yes.

I would be happy if Eto'o were to come. I'm uncomfortable breaking the wage structure for him, but we do have money to spend.

well on one hand your rich and own manchester united but on other your an ugly bastard :)

Kidding.

The club might or they might not have to - if we're interested. We can never really be totally sure about quoted figures.

I was confident about karim. So it won't happen

Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked on a daring raid to snatch Samuel Eto'o from under the noses of Manchester City.
The News of the World has reported that the Old Trafford club will make a £25 million bid for the Barcelona striker, who broke United's hearts when he scored the opening goal in this year's Champions League final.

The Cameroon player told club president Joan Laporta he wanted to leave the Nou Camp just hours before City ended their interest on Friday.

Agent Jose Maria Masalles told the paper: "At 28 he wants to join a club which will give him another chance of winning trophies.

AdZzUtd, take the stage.
