Interesting rumour this one. Potentially a bit of a shame for Welbeck and Macheda but a season out on loan could do them the world of good.

Yeah it was that website.

I dunno about this. The ACN is next season. He only has one year left on his deal, yet £20+ million is being talked about. He is already starting to lose some of the lightening speed of a couple of seasons ago.

Not a good buy in my opinion.

I think looking at Wellbeck and Macheda last year that a year on loan would be good for the lads. Perhaps Wellbeck is closer to being considered regularly. Macheda i feel is still a bit raw despite his brilliant cameos.
 
I think Luis Fabiano would have scored more goals then Eto'o last season if was at Barca. He would be a great signing and cheaper in wages than Eto'o. But both strikers dont fit into the age catagory of signings that United are now going for. Huntelaar will get goals but I would prefer if we didnt sign another Ruud clone. But if we dont get anyone then I am happy with that also but a top striker signing would leave me feeling confident for the new season!

Agreed.

Welbeck is already the more rounded footballer. And he can get game time on the wing. I wouldn't even loan Macheda out yet. He is still incredibly young.

And what part of his performances last season where he scored more goals in a season that at any previous point in his career made you think that then?!

An excellent goal against United springs to mind aswell. The lads in his prime and is a perfect foil along with Owen to develop our younger strikers.

Still considering that United just got £80 mill in the bank a £20-25 million signing that would score around 20-30 goals is a gamble that Fergie might think is worth taking.

I wasn't disparaging his performance last season.

But he's 28 and one of his principle assets is his searing pace. There is no doubt that he has slowed somewhat over the last year. He had suffered a few injuries. With this type of striker, you want to be getting them in their mid 20s, not their late 20s. The fee is exorbitant when you consider there is one year left on his deal.

touche. Barcelona want to get rid, if Gill negotiates properly we could land him for around £15 mill. Even if he loses his pace in another few years, his finishing will still make him deadly in the box.

I wouldn't be averse to getting him in for that sort of money.

But lets face it - £100000+ p/w plus £25m for a player with one year left would be overpriced in the extreme.

£15m would be better business.

Looking at the likes of Welbeck and Macheda, we dont need someone for the long-term, if we got him, he'd be here for about 4 seasons, by which time, Kiko and Welbeck will be 21 and 22 respectively - the perfect age for them to come in and be regulars. Reckon he's the perfect signing for us tbh, and I quite literally would emit.

Also, his pace is not what his game is built around. Its a bonus, but by no means essential. He makes clever little darts across the central defenders and makes space for himself perfectly in the box, its his footballing intelligence which makes him do that, not searing pace. Not to mention, he's built like a brick shithouse. Even if we take into account his pace, I reckon he has not lost as much of it as you seem to fear. He still caused Rio and Evra tonnes of problems in the final, and they are amongst the fastest defenders around..

Yes, but Eto, Owen and Berbatov would offer little or no versatility whenever hes will play a 3 man attack, he might like 4 strikers but they tend to be players that gives him options allowing him to rotate their positions.
