Sam Kerr | Found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment

Mate, if you really believe what you just wrote then nobody can help you. If ever a post deserved less than zero futher attention, it`s yours.

Tell me, why do you hate her so much? Is it because she’s a woman, mixed race, or a lesbian? You’ve mentioning all three in your little diatribe so I assume it’s a combination - the holy trinity for the fragile like you.

Have to say think it’s wrong and a double standard that she was cleared.

What she said was racist.

While I would agree it was in heated circumstances and wasn’t particularly vitriolic, that isn’t the standard applied to a white person making a similar comment about another race so I don’t see this result as just.

She is a white person.

What an angry little troll you are, you`re obviously not Australian because if you were you`d understand the context behind all this with the Australian media making people like Sam Kerr above criticism, citing exactly those identities.

Hence the excuse-making on those grounds for somebody who chose to get drunk to the point of behaving like a teen with their first drunken experience, threw up in the cab of somebody doing a difficult job for minimal money and then with her partner had a massive tantrum to the point of destroying part of the cab because in their drunken states they imagined that he was `kidnapping them`. Or so Kerr and her lawyer said. How about not behaving like a drunken first time drinker in the first place?

And for the classist, smug display of wealth in her bank account and her contempt for people like taxi drivers and police officers who earn their living doing difficult jobs that actually assist the public. And for every bit of bullshit she pulled on identity grounds. Makes rational people think of the saying `You can`t fix stupid` and it applies in more ways than to Kerr. End of communication.

it's such an immature way to have a discussion  instead of getting to the point and specific arguments, just rebuke "but why do you hate him/her/them so much". Like what's the value of such input, imagine if someone asked you (completely ignoring the arguments you've written) "why do you hate the taxi driver that got mad at his passengers who vandalised his car" - is it because they're working class and poor, unlike their millionaire passengers? Or is it because they're possibly non-white and who knows, maybe even Muslim? Such shit completely derails any discussion

I mean it's an absolutely abysmal take. There's quite a few on here who take these stances on politics, particular ones on the subject of racism.

They might and I use the term might because I think most are disengenuous, be well meaning, but like a lot of modern social media culture wars politics are not grounded in logic, common sense or reality.

They are stuck in that late 2010s 'racism is a social power system' stance that should have died a death a while ago.

It creates a social imbalance that works in cycles.

All that happens is people get sick to death of it, and it swings the other way so that poc have even less equality in the long term.

Short sighted, narrow minded and ultimately doomed to failure.

That said in terms of the actual incident I don't think it was racially aggrivated either, and wouldn't if the races were different.

This is a classic case of people leaning too far, over reaching and then having blowback. If there wasn't perceived imbalance then there wouldn't even be an issue.

This is the fundamental problem with people saying things like ' oh yes these poor white people who have it so hard'.

Because for those white people who do have it hard regardless of reason it makes them angry, resentful and turn to the far right... I've said it before... If you wonder why the far right is getting bigger take a long hard look at yourselves.

Introspection is not everyone's strong point however so I don't think they will change.

I know you`re not addressing me but I`m Australian and influential sections of the sports media like to play identity politics when they talk about the Matildas. A lot of Australians get tired of that and many think Sam Kerr should take responsibility for her behaviour instead of it getting mixed up with the usual identity politics that surround women`s football in Australia.

A lot of excuses have been made for her bullshit that night and are still being made by Australian politicians, sports commentators etc on the grounds of her ethnicity, gender and sexuality but sometimes it`s just about behaving like an arrogant, self entitled arsehole and this was one of those situations.

If you’re a mixed race woman whose words are not believed or listened to by a white man, then yes, calling that person a ‘white privileged man’ and ‘stupid and white’ is distinctly about power and privilege, not racism.
Yep.

I’ve spent pages going into the specifics if you’d bothered to read. When someone like the OP can literally get every fact of the case wrong, supposedly after reading everything about what happened, then I can only conclude he has some underlying issues with her.

It sounds like you should probably turn off the telly and touch some grass if sports media coverage is triggering you to this extent

Could be wrong but I was assuming ryansgirl is probably she/her?

So many points that clearly have passed you by
1) London Black Cabbies are not a group of underpaid individuals some maybe but in the main they earn very decent money some indeed travel into London from far a field ( I live in Dorset and know one such person ) they remain in London solid for 36 or so hours eating, drinking and yes sleeping in the cab and then return home well remunerated.
2) Drunks throwing up in cabs is sadly something that most cabbies have to deal with on a regular basis. It shouldn’t happen but it does and it is open to cabbies if they don’t want to risk such a situation we’ll simply don’t accept fares of people they think are drunk
3) Once a cabbie agree to accept a passenger they, the cabbie , assumes a duty of care.
4) Your comment re what Kerr or her partner believed was happening is beyond contempt. You nor me have any idea what they feared but refusing to stop the cab was a major violation of Kerr and her partners rights
5) The relevance of her showing the contents of her bank account was done to prove she had funds to pay the fare, if she was unable to prove that fact a charge under the Theft Act may have been on the cards.
6) In this instance the taxi driver was badly advised and just about everything Kerr stated such as calling 999 for which she was in effect called a liar was dismissed by PC Lovell is it any wonder she became annoyed ?

She was drunk, vomitted was an arsehole. I can say that about lots of my friends.

You seem a bit obsessed with the culture war aspect of this.

Nope, I thought she was part Aboriginal but apparently its Indian. You seem a little desperate to ignore my point and jump on this. Thats never a good sign when you can't debate the actual argument and have to resort to attacking to person and fixating on a small error.
Is it a small error when you're entire point was made whilst thinking she was black and whataboutism?

Your point had nothing to do with her or this thread, and everything to do with you wanting to get something of your chest in a thread you initially thought was appropriate.

I don't think it's a small error at all, you've just been called out.

I'm not really much involved in culture wars and identity politics, all I advocate for is a little bit more of class solidarity rather than being joyfully played by the elites and participating in those - very convenient for the millionaires - race/gender/sexual orientation wars.

I see some people on here are still twisting themselves into knots over Sam Kerr`s apprent exceptionalism because she has Indian ethnicity on her father`s side of the family, is a woman and is a lesbian.

On what planet do the police officers who put up with her arrogant shit talking and refusal to take responsibility for being a drunken arsehole, acting as if vandalising the cab of somebody who earns a basic living was fine regardless of whether she or her girlfriend did it and justifying it and boasting about her bank account while bringing their skin colour/ethnicity into it, come out of it badly?

No excuse for these excuses for Sam Kerr - the transcript is accurate, the police officers were very controlled during their videod interactions with her and her disrespect including calling the cab driver a `f.......cnt` as well as her completely unwarranted bringing of skin colour/ethnicity into it - unwarranted in the view of people who think playing race cards when you`re being a POS is just that.

The Matildas are over-hyped by an Australian sports media that has key sections pushing the notion that a multicultural team with just a few straight players - Mary Fowler and probably a couple of players who are reserves - can`t be criticised in any way and deserve a statue in their honour for coming fourth in the Women`s World Cup. Many more Australians than you think find the whole excuse making for Sam Kerr to be irrational and yet another agenda serving exercise.

Until she behaves like somebody other than a conceited, self entitled, nasty piece of work who thinks she can treat people who don`t make millions like dirt just because she can kick a ball around, those opinions won`t change.
Wow. Just wow.

Interesting that you think you speak for Australians in general.

She was drunk, vomitted was an arsehole. I can say that about lots of my friends.

You seem a bit obsessed with the culture war aspect of this.

Well, Kerr did hide behind every culture war excuse going. Non white, a woman, gay, privilege, and the best part "I had Sarah Everard on my mind". She was drunk, acted like a cnut and was treated like one. But those things she hid behind have everyone coming out to make excuses for her. You acting now, like you arent all balls deep in the culture war is disingenuous as feck. Because the culture wars, are the only reason to defend someone who threw up in taxi, refused to pay the cleaning, had her girlfriend kick out the windows, and then start mouthing off to cops "Is this a race thing?" and "You are stupid and white".

Remember when Mel Gibson got arrested for being drunk, and started mouthing off anti Jewish shit at the Jewish officer arresting him? Were you there, pearls in hand, chatting a lot of shit about the culture wars? Cos this is exactly like that. Famous person is drunk, acting like a cnut, mouthing off bigoted nonsense, and is rightfully arrested for it. There is no difference. Other than the obvious gay, woman, privilege, Sarah Everard. Everyone else, like your friends, would have taken the slap on the wrist, and went about their day. She wanted to make it culture war bullshit. And here we all are, talking about anything other than what she actually did. And thats 100% on her for making it her defence.

Whats the saying you all love so much? Give your head a wobble? Cos you calling out others for "culture wars" is just laughable. This whole thread is nothing but culture wars shit. And now your all piling on a woman for having an opinion? Why are you all so sexist? ;)

Who are you talking about? Sam Kerr is mixed race.
She is mixed raced but I don't think it's pushing the boat if you considered her white either. I know a few people who have the same ratio mix who consider themselves just one race.

That said, dunno what Sam kerr considers herself, and whatever that is, is the right answer.

Does that mean she is not white? I tell my mixed race children they are both black and Mediterranean...
I don't think it really matters what you tell your mixed race children or how they approach their identity themselves, obviously the final word is with the online crowd like Caf posters and how they perceive them.

I didn't make excuses for her behaviour. Like most things this is not an all in to one side of the other thing.

Women have more to fear in certain situations than men. That's backed up by stats.

The police force too are not above reproach.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...t-misogynistic-homophobic-louise-casey-report

I'm not clutching anything, but you are a bit hysterical.

I would describe Ryan Giggs, Ross Barkley and Kieran Trippier as white, wouldn’t you?
None of them have dark skin in the way Sam Kerr does even though most people you may well consider that they may not have solely Anglo heritage. If it has never occurred to you that Sam Kerr has significant non-anglo heritage I refer you to a Specsavers advert.

This is interesting to me. It's denying part of your ethnicity, for me. Yes I can see why it could be beneficial to some, in different situations.... but still. What do people think here? What is mixed race - some kind of race class or a description?

this is such a subjective way to look at this, who's to decide if people of different ethnic backgrounds have "dark skin in the way Sam Kerr" does, who's to decide "yes, this is dark enough, and this is not dark enough, even if you both have a black grandfather", is it you? Rather than be a judge on those things I prefer to let people decide on their identities themselves, I believe that's a bit more respectful than assessing the skin tone of Kieran fecking Trippier who today looks white enough to call him white despite his background, but give him two week holidays in the Caribbean and he's tanned enough for this not to be obvious

Sexual assault isnt the only crime.
https://www.gov.uk/government/stati...the-criminal-justice-system-2023-html#victims

I just find it a bit odd that only a woman should feel insecure and threatened in a situation where a lot of things Are going on and the taxi driver locks the doors and drives to a completely different place. I’d be fairly concerned as well about my overall safety.
No, I never said it was the only crime but it's quite a traumatic thing to think might be happening. And it's a real fear.

There were certain streets I wouldn't walk down at night in Dublin but it was never fear of anything worse than hassle, and I did get into a couple scuffles. But for my female friends that experienced was more common and present. And personally I never thought twice about getting into a taxi alone where my female friends hated it.

Subjective? WTF are you on about.

The point is that nobody with normal vision ever mistook Sam Kerr for Anglo.

But there is a power imbalance. Anyway, you have been posting a good few of these takes now. How about showing people how it's done instead of only telling them what to do?

Noy even a tiny bit. More a calculated comment on your posting history. We have access to notes. ;)

What is this post? Access to notes? What are you talking about. And secondly, if you're making a 'calculated comment on my posting history' completely unprompted (you engaged me) then is this the forum for it. Do you have a message you want to send me privately or is this some sort of performative show for the forum? Completely bizarre exchange this has been.

They are stuck in that late 2010s 'racism is a social power system' stance that should have died a death a while ago.
Just an aside. As an avid reader of history and a big fan its relevance, I find the dismissing of the late 2010's mindset as hilarious.

What do people think here? What is mixed race - some kind of race class or a description?
I think it's not my fecking business to decide or debate on this and I don't waste time sorting my friends in categories "race A, race B", I'm just accepting their identity and that's it. Like I have a good friend here that's half northern Italian half Ivorian, born in Spain. He identifies himself as Spanish, Italian, European, Ivorian, Western African, black (but not fully), white (but not fully) and mixed race all at the same time. Does it seem a little bit overwhelming and confusing for me? Yes, maybe. Am I really in position to debate this or categorize him myself? Not at all, he's my friend - not my black friend, not my white friend, not my mixed race friend.
