Sadio Mane | Performances

Looks like Liverpool only got enough PEDs from Pep for one player. It's all going to Salah now.

Not watched Liverpool lately, surely Mane isn't acting jealous on the pitch of Salah. He'd be benched if he was?

He's not been setting the world alight lately but it was just a couple of weeks ago he scored a brace against Spartak. The form will return.

Nothing to suggest this except him trying to score and missing in derby. In fact, he squared to Salah today for what would have been a certain goal if Salah didn't completely miss the ball.

 that sums up Salah for me. He can miss absolute sitters but his movement is so good and he's so fast he always gets into these positions.

I do think Mane can be quite greedy as a player, but that's not a bad thing. He was exceptional last year.

You've always got next year, maybe he can score a brace against them in the EL group stage! :p

He's kind of redundant atm. Salah has effectively taken over his role from last season. He started the season well, adapting into basically Coutinho's role. Then Coutinho came back, he missed a few games with injuries and by the time he came back the team had effectively replaced him. Now he has no defined role and it's hurting him

Said this before, but Mane looked like a world beater because the team maximized his strenghts. They're not now, and it shows

Coutinho is the only genuine world class player they have

Was thinking of this watching the game too. He seems to have also dipped in confidence and his finishing and decision making have been off the times I have seen him recently. Interesting point on his role now in the team now. By the way, I think many would argue that Salah also is a world class player too.

Salah needs to do this consistently. If he plays this way next season, then yes, he is peak Suarez levels of world class. At the moment, what he's doing is absolutely freakish for a winger.

Mane was never world class, even last season. Always thought he was an above average player that Klopp managed to get the best out of. This dip in form is par for the course for such players. He will soon start scoring at a decent rate.

Yeah, I was thinking similarly too but another member recently brought this up that he matured a lot in Rome. As I did not follow him much before Liverpool and his stint with Chelsea, I took his word. He seemed pretty sure that he will continue this rich form and will move from Liverpool. We’ll see.

He wasn't bad yesterday at all. He lost the ball a few times but overall he had a good performance. Thought the criticism in here was harsh and almost questioned my own eyes before looking at Whoscored where he got a 7.60 score which is good. Worked hard defensively and set up at least 3 good chances. At least one of those chances was a clear cut opportunity (Salah should have scored).

On another day his bicycle kick goes in. We can question whether he should have brought the ball down but we also have to consider the difficulty in doing so and whether he would have had time to get a shot off. Then there was the volley from Coutinho's beautiful cross. Not a simple chance at all. From that angle all you can ask for is that he gets it on target which he did.

It's easy to criticize an attacking player when he comes out of a game without an assist or goal but i think people's opinions on here might also be influenced by how the other Liverpool attackers are performing. He has 11 goal contributions in 18 appearances this season which is not shabby at all.

No idea if it's confidence or injuries but he's lost that raw dynamism and explosiveness.

There was times last season and the beginning of this where he would just do the opposition defender for sheer pace from a standing start. Hasn't tried that move once since he's been back. I still suspect it's the former but it would be incredibly worrying if it was the latter.

Tiredness?

I was wondering about that too, looks nowhere near as rapid as he does at his best.

He seems off in the way he plays with the others. Like there's something going on in the dressing room or like he just doesnt get along. His ego looks somehow frustrated from not being the main winger to pass to anymore.

Nah he's been like this for a couple of months now, just no confidence in his ability to beat a man despite doing it for fun previously.

Sounds like he's done a Valencia. Might as well start his transition to a FB

I actually wonder if that's a part of it.

Salah has stolen his thunder a bit. He's nowhere near as effective as he was last year.

I think it might be an ego thing as well. He’s also been pushed onto the left hand side.

Southampton fans genuinely weren't too bothered to be losing him, that's tells you all you need to know. Capable of looking world class and simply unplayable every now and then, but he'd follow it up with five or six pub-player performances. As soon as Salah's streak dries up, Liverpool are goosed.

Somehow he looks to have lost a yard of pace; he has suffered some muscular injuries, so it is possible. Could do a Sturridge? Also, him having to play at the left has really messed with his performances. He's no more a left winger than Martial a right winger.

Its typical Mane.
He has played this exact way for Southampton. There isn't any deeper meaning about lack of pace or playing second fiddle.
He is comfortable at Liverpool and this is the result. A lack of hunger to take on responsibility.

He wants United, but is stuck in Liverpool. I bet he will push for a move in the summer

Still pulling out very good numbers for a wide player. But he isn't as electric as last year.

Didn’t even think he played that well.

His third was a great strike.

Things are going to get really tasty if he gets back to full form. Would argue he is our most devastating player when on it.

Liverpool's best player tonight? Very lively and tried to force things, moreso than Firmino.

Amazing player. Don't think he is world class and probably never will be but his pace is something special. Not just the pace itself but what he does with it, his ball control is pretty good too.

Badly missed out on this guy when he was at Southampton, but then if we got him under LVG he may have still been here so mixed feelings. Would be such an upgrade to our right attack just now. Unbelievably our weakest position even with Young playing at left back.

I could see him angling for a move soon or a severe raise that will upset the wage bill, don't seem he will be satisfied with this outcome. Coutinho opened the floodgates. Their entitled players will want to get recognition one way or other.
