Nice work Westwood. A much needed 1up in his match.
Rose should be taking care of a player like Fowler. He hasn't holed a thing all day.
It'e been an excellent match. Stenson/Speith was superb.Even surpassed Reed/Rory who tailed off in the end. Garcia/Mickelson I mean.
Man Sullivan had so many chances to crawl back into this.
Anybody saying that golf has to be part of the Olympics can suck it. I'd imagine none of the fellows out there today would swap winning their singles for a gold medal.
yep, way better that way100% should follow boxings example and have it as an ametuer contest

I wouldn't mind if we completely stayed away from the Olympics. It seems to me the IOC has way more to gain than golf. It's different with boxing though. Many amateur boxers use the Olympics to gain a profile so they can get decent fights and make decent money once they turn pro. Golfers are looking at Q school, secondary tours and invites to try and make their card. Once they've done that, it doesn't matter if no one has heard of them, if they play well enough, they make money and keep their card. Young golfers would be looking at all those avenues to getting their tour cards before going to the Olympics.
I'm not sure it would have made much difference, the second half of the European line-up never looked strong enough. Just frustrating that Casey and Knox not qualifying left the side with decent but no more European Tour players playing against much higher quality opposition. It also meant Europe's main men had to play 5 rounds as there was no depth (although the players Clarke paired with them was at time questionable). That Rory match was the key really, Europe desperately needed the momentum from that.
