What a sad day. Gutted that we couldn't give him the biggest farewell that any player has ever received. Just doesn't feel right, the way it's ended but I suppose it was in the best interest of the team and for his coaching career. Also, atleast we get to see him week in and week out on the touchline. Thank you for the lovely memories you absolutely LEGEND!

Timeless. What a legend. His achievements and records will never ever be surpassed in a trillion years. It was expected but still a real shock to think the 11 shirt is available for the first time in 2 decades. So pleased he's going to be still around. We had to keep him.
Thankfully, we won't have to say goodbye. We'll see him every game next season and that's good.

Just so it isn't all too serious, here is Giggs being a bit of a knob in the 90's.
End of an era, the last remaining piece of the club that I grew up watching is finally retired.
Felt as though this was inevitable considering his appt as assistant manager. Deserves to be mentioned with the best of the best to ever play for the club. That goal in the FA Cup to help secure the treble in 99 is still my personal all time favorite goal.

I miss him already. As a Welshman whose first real memory of football was the new wonder kid, it has been a privilege to watch him so many times.

His reinvention as a footballer in his late 30's was incredible. At his absolute peak in CM, he was fantastic. I think if Fletcher had stayed healthy and been able to do more work to cover for him, we'd have seen a few more top performances there.
Could still play another season and contribute. He could start for more than half the Premier League. To think he was the best player on the pitch against Real Madrid last year tell you everything you need to know really.
We need more videos of his magic. I want to see that pass to RVP in the FA Cup against West Ham. Incredible. In his later years his ability to pick out the killer pass was brilliant. To adapt your game from pacey/tricky winger to creative midfielder is unheard of and probably won't ever happen again.

What can you say? Just an incredible player and one we won't see the like of again. Too many memories of him to pick one particular one, but all I can say is that it's been an honour and a privilege watching and following him over the years. The way he's changed and adapted his game over the years shows the ability of the man. As I say, we won't see another like him. I just feel fortunate to have been able to turn up and watch him week in, week out.

Absolute legend.Deep down I knew it was coming, but it's still shocking. Every United team I've known has had Giggs in it.
...and with his retirement goes the last of the '99 treble winners, the sole survivor of the golden generation and Fergie's fledglings.
He'll be remembered in the Pantheon of legends along with the likes of Law, Best, Charlton, Foulkes, and Scholesy for that matter. In his achievements he's surpassed everybody in the history of not only the club but arguably anybody else in club football.

Still remember the first time I ever visited Old Trafford, rolling onto the car park looking up at the red Manchester United lettering which used to be on the corner before the North Stand was rebuilt and then going into the shop to get my first shirt.
Had to go to a hut in the car park to get a name and number on the back because the printing machine wasn't working in the old superstore. Giggs #11 on the back of it. 4 years old.
The fact that at 24 I can still go and get a shirt with Giggs #11 on the back is testament to him and the fact that many people definitely still would get his name on the back is a marker of how good he's been for such a long time.

It's a shame his playing career ended this way. He deserved the kind of exit that Ferguson enjoyed, as did Ferdinand.
We all knew this day was coming like when Sir Alex retired but it's still a shock.I had the privilege to be in the Stretford End when he made his debut as a sub v Everton, the same game that Darren Ferguson had his first start.When I got home my father asked how young Giggs had played I said he was ok but was more impressed with Ferguson and thought he had the better chance at United.Shows what I know.The fact that he played for the biggest club in the world for so long is testament to the guys utter professionalism and supreme talent.

A separate matter, I wonder him if ending his playing career was a pre requisite from LVG to become his assistant manager.
Would make sense to me in that LVG needs a detached and fully focussed assistant who is HIS sounding board and on his side; and not a player whose loyalties are straddled between the players and the manager.
