Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leicester Manager

What's there to say? I've already stated that giving it this kind of task to a newbie is a mistake.

He might prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
who would you have taken then?

Potter has said no about 3 times now so can't keep waiting for him to remember he's a manager, Moyes wouldn't have been exciting either.

Corberan would be a gamble too and we'd have to buy him out. Enzo was a novice, RVN has more experience than he did when we hired him

We'll see.

I've got zero expectations for this season anyways.

I like him but it’s mad that Ole hasn’t had a meaningful job offer since leaving United while Ruud manages us for four games and does fine and lands the Leicester job

Even if you think he was shite (he wasn’t) you have Coventry sacking their fairly successful manager to bring in Lampard who has failed repeatedly as a manager since Derby.
With Ole, I have a feeling that he is not really keen on taking jobs like Coventry or Leicester. I think he is really content in Norway and would only disrupt his life for a big job.
The reason the likes of Lampard and Rooney keep getting these gigs is because they are not afraid to take these ‘hard’ jobs.

Ruud also seems hungry to learn and grow as a manager. Wish him the best for a really tough job ahead.

Wasn't he about to take the Burnley job before the late Man. United offer.

I think taking a lower end prem job with a pretty decent chance of staying up is a good move from him.

Pretty easy not to be as negative as Cooper was with team selections so he'll get the Leicester crowd on side quickly aswell.

He was going to Burnley before we got involved. I’d say lower PL/top of championship is his level right now - in England anyway

Yeah, but there was speculation regarding Palace. Also, if the Burnley owners weren't absolute morons, I think it would be better to join a Championship club likely to be promoted than a Premier League club likely to be relegated, not least mid-season.

possibly, look what happened to Kompany on the back of one season in the championship. I say that because he surely didn’t get the Bayern job based on his premier league work.

Best of luck to Rudd (apart from any games against Man United) good to see him get a premier league club so soon and if he retains their status in the top flight he'll have done a fine job.

The players weren’t playing for Cooper and his anti football. They are better than they’ve shown this season.

I expect him to do enough to keep us up. Just by having actual tactics and not camping in your own half for 85 minutes, then trying to nick a goal.

He does have a few gems within the squad that have maybe gone overlooked.

Hermansen is brilliant and won’t be at Leicester after this season. He could be the top 5 keepers in the world within a few years. He is that good.

Fatawu is a major loss. As he’s out for the season.

Bouenotte and Billal are technically good players.

Justin has been rotten but that’s how he’s been asked to play (Hopefully).

Kristiansen played for Bologna last season when the qualified for the Champions League.

Winks, Skipp, Vestergaard, Ricardo, Reid, Ayew, Ndidi etc are steady mid to bottom end Premier League players.

Vardy will still score goals.

He needs to find the nearest bin and put Faes in it.

Get a tune out of Daka and Mavididi.

We’ve got a couple of real gems that need unleashing from within the U23s in Alves, Golding and the real talent that I’m surprised you guys or Liverpool haven’t tapped up, Jeremy Monga. The lad played for the U18s at 14. They aren’t going to change the world at Premier League level but they’re all creative and worth a look.

He has the tools to keep us up. Let’s hope he smashes it!

He took the Cardiff job. I think he just hasn’t had any offers

That was over a decade ago. His motivations have probably changed since then. I know I'd need a good reason to take on a job at a struggling club if I'd already been the manager for my dream club and had more money than I knew what to do with. I don't blame him at all if he doesn't want the stress of being a manager any more. It's a brutal, all-consuming job that requires him to move abroad. The man has a wife and kids.

Hope he does really well (not against us). I don’t think it’s the bad job people are suggesting - he’s not that experienced.

So no suggestions, then?
Ain't my job. I wanted Potter but he declined.

I just don't think that giving the job to an inexperienced manager is the best way to steady a sinking ship 12 games in.

And spare me this snarky tone of yours.

Wait till he actually sees where he's got to live. Mind he'll probably chopper to work from the Dam or be driven through tinted windows to the 'King Power.' This will end badly.

I wouldn't fancy his chances of keeping them up really but i dont think i'd love the chances of anyone realistic. Wasn't too impressed with the squad even compared to Everton or Ipswich but i guess if the manager is on the verge of the sack its not a good advertisement. Other teams having money to spend in january wont help either.
Ruud just seemed quite sensible in his games in charge of us. There was an element of injuries forcing his hand and we clearly needed to go back to basics a bit so maybe it was just circumstances but it was a good impression mostly. We were solid and patient and did quite well at getting our forwards on the ball.

Oh, it was just funny that you were blasting him and then he actually does turn out to be your new manager! Both of our clubs are in that zone currently where it's hard to draw in a manager that can both keep us up and take us forward at the same time.

Oh yeah, it's quite the irony. Nothing else to do now, the bed is made and one can only back him.

Who knows, he might surprise us all.

I think that you're in a much better (or less worse) position when it to prospects.

Ruud is very tall, handsome and well dressed. The people of Leicester will probably panic and think he's some sort of alien.

Very happy for him. Hope he does very well (but obv not better than us)

That was before he was at United. See no reason why it wouldn't be the case that he's being selective. And he has had offers, as far as I understand.

Let’s be honest. It’s highly unlikely he’s been offered any jobs, especially premier league and championship. If he had it would have most likely been reported by a credible source. But you could very well be right thou, he has money so is in no rush. And maybe unlike Lampard, Rooney, Gerrard et al who most likely have more money he just doesn’t want a career in management anymore.

The Leicester job is a good job but also a weird one. Avoid relegation is a must, but at the same time it’s not that long ago they were a mid table club, just before that one that challenged top 4 for a few seasons, and just before that won the league. Don’t forget also the FA cup win.

So they’re are like the smallest club, with the biggest underlying expectation. Just to put it into a context, most Brighton fans are happy finishing where they usually finish. For Leicester while the initial hope is to avoid a relegation. If any manger gets an 8th place finish, expectations for more will quickly rise.

his time in the Dutch league too, OGS only have his stint with you and in Norway as he was a disaster at Cardiff
Probably a number of factors there.

1. I agree that Ole is underrated as a manager. Still the only Utd manager post Ferguson to have consecutive top four finishes.

2. I suspect the lack of employment for Ole is largely of his own choosing. I am sure he has had opportunities which he didn’t feel were right for him. As is his prerogative.

3. I agree that with Ole’s experience and resume, he should be in line for a decent job, as much or more than many of the names often bandied around. I do sometimes wonder if the unfair reputation some gave him when he was here, of being a PE teacher, has created an overly negative impression of his credentials.

4. People love the idea of untapped or unrealised potential, as well as a completely fresh start. The problem you have with virtually every manager, is they come with baggage. Nearly every manager eventually gets sacked, and so they carry their failures with them. Someone like Ruud, doesn’t have that baggage yet. He left PSV of his own accord, and then was a brief caretaker at United. He had a well curated image of being cerebral and driven, and is apparently spoken of highly behind the scenes. I am sure this all helped.

5. Once Ruud inevitably accumulates the battle scars of a PL manager, by being sacked or whatever, he’ll merge into that same bracket as all the other out of work managers.

6. I like Ruud, a lot, and I hope he succeeds there. I definitely think he has something about him. He seems savvy in how he handles the players, and he seems more than competent tactically. He also gives off the impression that he is very demanding and ambitious. A bit of a “killer”.

Hope he does well. Paper thin and minimal goals in the squad though he may struggle

Hope he does well, fully expect him to get them relegated
