Ruud van Nistelrooy | Has left United

As others have said, Ruud’s stint has made ETH’s performance look even more horrific. ETH over complicated everything and was stubborn by refusing to adapt his tactics. Ruud came, played to the players strengths and we looked much better! Funny that!

Ruud sounds quite sad in the post match. I know it's difficult for both parties and completely understand is Amorim doesn't want to keep Ruud...

... but Ruud clearly loves the club, clearly had some level of tactical and communication skills and I'd love Amorim to see the value and find something mutually acceptable for him.

A perfect job as interim manager. I hope Amorim keeps him on staff. Thank you, Ruud. Your legend continues.

He couldn’t have left it any better for Amorim, confidence is back, and we’re now just 4 points off third place with 27 games to play.
I personally believe that just by Ruud making this team more compact we’d make top 4 if he stayed on, so Amorim really has been given a perfect opportunity here.

He gets the league and what it’s about, ETH was trying to be too clever. He’ll do well as a manager at another club (Spurs maybe soon?), and one day come back to Utd.

Wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Palace or West Ham give a nod.

Hope Amorim keeps him. The confidence is back, as are the points. He did a really good job, almost having a 100% win rate if it wasn’t for that Chelsea wonder goal.

A great United man. Get the feeling his character might be too big to stay on but would be great to see him continue as a coach/assistant.

Someone willing to learn from Amorim

Great fun under him and Leicester will be glad to see the back of him

Ruthless is dealing swiftly with poor performance, not randomly fecking off folk like Ruud who clearly have something to offer the club.

We’ve been down this road before.

And if true he has ambitions to be manager here then that sets up a potential problem in the background for Amorim, no thanks.

Delighted he signed off on a high.

Also very damning of ETH, Ruud hardly reinvented the wheel, just got us going back to basics which surprise surprise, yielded results. No idea wtf Ten Haram was trying to do but good riddance to him.
Ten Haram

He's done a good job as interim coach. It also goes to show that you don't have to reinvent the wheel to get some results out of even a struggling team. Van Nistelrooy introduced a bit of structure and has treated the players like adults. He hooked Dalot today when his performance dipped way below the standards and he has rewarded Amad for his good form by letting him get some game time and demonstrating his quality. It doesn't have to be difficult.

We've now shaken off some of the negativity from the previous regime and given the new coach a bit of a platform to build on. We aren't on negative goal difference anymore and we're 4 points off top 4. There's plenty of football left in this season, we just need a coach who can extract something out of this team.

What is it that Ruud has that ETH did not? Whatever it is, it's working

Ruud did a good job to keep chances for Amorim, this season, in all competitions. Deserved gratitude for him and let the new era begin!

Realising that having the space of the grand canyon in midfield isn't a good thing.

Doesn't have an ego by the looks of things, since he started, he seems to have showed he cares about the players and actually trying to communicate with them.

Something ETH rarely did but stand and watch with his bald held covered in rain water.

Also has tried to fix the glaring weakness in midfield by making make it look more solid. Yes, there are clear mistakes in the team but they aren't as frequent and obvious. Something ETH refused to admit. He was so blinded or ignorant to the fact he had this process. He was basically a worse version of LVG with his trust the process nonsense.

While also adding that he clearly had his favourites, Ahmed has shown life under RVN and Ugarte is a solid ball retriever. Casemiro seems to have more life in him when he's got someone who can help plug the gaps.

Agreed 100%

Big thanks to Ruud for stepping in and taking over the team for the past 4 games. He’s done a fine job. My gut feeling is that he will leave but whatever happens I’m sure there’s a permanent managers job out there for him.

Delighted the interim period went well for Ruud.

It was a favourable set of fixtures, especially all being at home, but unbeaten in 4, 3 wins, and a good amount of goals. Very good effort.

Torn as to what's probably the best to do with him now. Ideally, I'd like to see him stay until at least the end of the season. But, obviously, so much depends on how well he and Amorim feel they can work together - and if there's a sufficient role for him with all the other new arrivals.

If it's decided that he goes, I'm glad it's ended with such a positive spell as interim manager.

Amazing guy. What a spell!
Met him in my city in 2015 when Netherlands where here.
Went to the stadium the day before the game, got my Vodafone shirt on and shouted "Ruud" towards him when the training was over.
His answer was amazing: "That's the shirt!"
Got and autograph and a photo. Great moment that I keep in high regard.
Thanks Ruud and all the best whatever future holds for you.

Wish he had come a week earlier. Would have had another 3 points.

Ruud made it all look so simple and did exactly what was needed, points on the board and a mini unbeaten run with some good individual performances to help restore confidence and most of all created a feel good atmosphere at the club when it was at rock bottom so from the bottom of my heart thank you Ruud you absolute legend.

I’m firmly in the camp of wanting Ruud to stay on as he certainly offers Amorim a different insight and potentially alternative tactical ideas, if Ruud did go though because he wanted to be head coach elsewhere I would fully support his decision as he’s shown more in four games than ETH did bar one game in eighteen months.

One thing I have thought since the final whistle today though is how bad I feel for Ole as the job he did as caretaker was phenomenal and only took a dip that season after being given the job full time in late March, I think before that he had a 75% win record from 20 games or something and had he continued as caretaker before bringing in a permanent manager we’d have made top four that season and Ole wouldn’t have been subjected to how things ended.

I think a lot of perspectives have been coloured by the good results we've had, for me Ruud has been a continuation of Ten Hag; we look just as open and vulnerable, the main difference is that we've been able to take our chances a bit better, particularly the lower percentage ones from outside and around the penalty area.

What a fecking legend - seeing him celebrate goals as a manager has brought back incredible memories of his incredible celebrations as a player (of which there were many.)

Good results tend to do that and putting some trust in players like Amad and Ugarte is hardly a continuation of Ten Hag.

He did as well as could be expected as interim in the circumstances, like Carrick and Ole before him (we don't talk about Rangnick). I hope he stays but only if Anorim wants him to.

We didn’t look as open, no one can look as open as we did under ETH.

Happy for him and happy for the club, he did what he was supposed to do, stabilized the club a bit and leaving it with good vibes for Amorim.
