Source?Sounds like a dictator
Sounds like a dictator
Isn’t it parties with Russian links?Sounds like a dictator
Also, who thinks the BBC, ITN, Channel 4 and Sky News would all be able to do four separate simulcasts of rolling news if Britain was invaded? I’d fully expect and support them being forced to pool their resources to keep people informed in that situation.I don't know the exact context of this and what those parties are like but the UK didn't have an election for 10 years from 35 to 45 during WW2.
Not particularly unusual for some kind of martial law to come into place when your country's existence is put into question.
It's pro-Russian ideologies parties, not necessarily linked. Hardly surprising of course, given the circumstances.Isn’t it parties with Russian links?
Has anyone seen @harms here lately? Is he OK?
Well if things continue that way, he might soon.He lives in Ukraine?
In RussiaHe lives in Ukraine?
In Russia
Russians are apparently digging into their positions, building trenches where they can't advance like in Kyiv.
I think Putin is attacking in the West, even ineffectively, to keep anyone else's troops from entering the country and holding the Western half of Ukraine, which could have been easily done weeks ago.
I also think Russia is desperate to make sure no one else helps Ukraine with men, thus the nuclear threats. What if Russia did launch a tactical nuke at, say, Australian troops that showed up to help? Worldwide condemnation? If so it would be worth it (if anything can be said to be worth the lives of soldiers), to turn China against them, it could end the war. I mean if tactical nukes are so clever why not use them against Ukraine? Talk about psychological warfare, it would surely be very effective at terrorising Ukrainians and getting them to flee.
I think the truth is he won't use them, unless someone invades Russia which is never happening.
Shorting is prohibited.I won’t buy anything remotely Russian I’m the next year or so.
Might short some though
Surely they will reopen it at some point...Shorting is prohibited.
...ah, you bring up the previous guy straight away then reference WWIII, the classic default. You'll be worrying about creating 'offramps' for the fascist invaders next. Take a look around, lots of Ukrainian voices and others bemoaning US timorousness. What's being done now -assisting the victims to 'fight clean" within parameters designed not to upset the the enemy- is clearly not enough.
Yeah, thanks for asking. Although it looks more & more likely that I’ll need to leave Russia soon while I still can.Has anyone seen @harms here lately? Is he OK?
I’m in Russia, so no bombs & tanks, just a fascist police state trying to root out everyone who dares to oppose the war or the regime itself. He lives in Ukraine?
Are there still international airlines flying to Moscow?Yeah, thanks for asking. Although it looks more & more likely that I’ll need to leave Russia soon while I still can.

Hopefully it all works out for you mate in these tough times.Yeah, thanks for asking. Although it looks more & more likely that I’ll need to leave Russia soon while I still can.
Would you basically have to fly out or is going across a land border an option for you?Yeah, thanks for asking. Although it looks more & more likely that I’ll need to leave Russia soon while I still can.

There are a few options still available — Armenia, Turkey etc. Although the flights are scarce & the prices are brutal — not to mention the amount of people that the countries like that can comfortably accept in since Russians have already fled to Armenia, Georgia etc. in vast numbers.Would you basically have to fly out or is going across a land border an option for you?
Gotcha. Wasn’t sure the situation with a car and all since russian air travel has taken such a hit and car ownership in other places isn’t like it is here. I hope you stay safe and are able to get out man. There are a few options still available — Armenia, Turkey etc. Although the flights are scarce & the prices are brutal — not to mention the amount of people that the countries like that can comfortably accept in since Russians have already fled to Armenia, Georgia etc. in vast numbers.
Going across a land border would be tougher logistically but who knows what the situation will look like when/if I’ll do it.

Yeah. It's hard to feel sorry for myself though since literally millions of Ukrainians don't even have that choice.Stay safe.
I feel for you, even having to contemplate leaving your country, friends and family, and possibly job must be a terrible situation to be in.
Unfortunately I think the situation in Russia will only get worse.
Putin is like a rabid dog.
According to this dude, 30,000 Russians have moved to Georgia alone!
Do you see many common Russians (not oligarchs) selling their assets abroad? Or at least trying to shift them. There are a few options still available — Armenia, Turkey etc. Although the flights are scarce & the prices are brutal — not to mention the amount of people that the countries like that can comfortably accept in since Russians have already fled to Armenia, Georgia etc. in vast numbers.

Those that I know personally, unsurprisingly, would rather go to their house, say, in Spain/Latvia/wherever instead of selling it. You have to understand that if you're a Russian with assets abroad and you're not directly involved with Putin you're unlikely to believe Russian propaganda.Do you see many common Russians (not oligarchs) selling their assets abroad? Mean him personally or any other internet random freaking out at Putin's bluff. All he has to do is say the word 'nuclear' and we stand by and watch the rape.
That sounds like it could turn ugly down the line.Seems about right — Georgia is one of the friendliest and hospitable countries around, it's relatively cheap, many people know Russian language etc. I'm really worrying about this forced gentrification though — especially in Armenia the rent prices had gone up almost 100% and a lot of Armenians that came to big cities like Erevan don't have the money to keep renting their places, while the influx of relatively wealthy & desperate political immigrants from Russia makes sure that there are always other takers.
I suppose you're aware, but just in case you aren't: a week (two?) ago the train from Saint Petersburg to Helsinki was still running and they were trying to increase its frequency from two to four per day because of the number of Russians (and others?) trying to get out. Maybe that's an option as well? There are a few options still available — Armenia, Turkey etc. Although the flights are scarce & the prices are brutal — not to mention the amount of people that the countries like that can comfortably accept in since Russians have already fled to Armenia, Georgia etc. in vast numbers.
