Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

Been watching sky news live since yesterday morning. Bit worried haven't seen the two reporters on the ground in a couple of hours, one in Kiev and one in khakiv

Probably nobody has answer to this but hypothetically if Putin dies tomorrow, would this be closer to end or are his potential successors/allies equally fecked up to carry on?

The biggest twats in the west will always be the UK. Even though they are better on this particular issue than Italy and Germany.
I think at this point, we're all just trying to outdo each other for that title.

I'm not a fan of hypothetical wargaming but an intervention here would mean closure of the air-space and bombing of a tank column or two to lift on-going seiges. Things could escalate of course if Putin refuses to sit down at the table at that point. There would be no actual military threat to Russian mainland or Putin himself. There would need to be 100 levels of escalation before Putin decides suicide by nuke is the way forward.
This is only way to end it quickly. NATO is vastly stronger than Russia aerially but I don’t see how Putin doesn’t escalate to nuclear war of that happens because it would destroy him politically. Genuinely the hope is he’s taken out or the oligarchs turn on him.

Putin would have majority of key person in Russian's government supporting him, maybe some being divisive but he can't do this alone. He's the lighting rod but I doubt his subordinate back home aren't on the same pages at least

I remember very clearly the headlines of Zelensky. A comedian winning the vote to lead his nation. I remember the warm and proud smile of a comedian. His bright face and how happy he was. I remember the warmness typical of a comedian and the over joyous nature.

He was so happy back then. To understand this situation now, and the likelihood that he will be killed? Its very sad. Its sad in any case. The smile of a comedian, his aim to make people smile, his smile is no longer present. These are very dark times.

Its been so sad also to see Ukraine is so desperately begging for assistance from Nato members, the same nato members that only today bombed Somalia. The same nato members, who whilst they say they were assisting in building up Ukraine, perhaps there was the hope from them that they could manipulate Ukraine into putting a finger up to Putin and Russia.

Truth is that Ukraine have been used and now ditched. Nobody really cares and nobody will care except for the history books and the poets of future poems who write about tragedy.

How far back are we going here? I distinctly remember my granddad stuttering and struggling to speak about WW2 when silly child me asked him about what he did because we were learning about it at school.

Perhaps you guys on the continent can sort your own shit out for a change?

The UK is directly involved in massive War crimes. The UK has a much stronger and closer alliance to horrendous regimes committing such crimes. The UK is protecting said regimes by different means, that their crimes barely make it to the news.

An actual example of ongoing crimes.

Yep, you'd certainly never see Germany or France (or Sweden!) selling arms to Middle Eastern countries involved in war or having close relations to despotic regimes. Never. :)

China and Russia in cahoots is pretty troubling.

So that was was an interesting take on CNN. That China aren't actually happy with this as a new cold war really hampers their one belt one road initiative and behind the scenes are requesting for peace talks already.

The governments are, most people just want to be left alone and have peace.

Exactly. Who remember the million people march in London against the Illegal Iraq invasion? Nothing happened. They still invaded. People have no say.

They all do it, which makes that post quite hilarious.

No, and he said it in plain text. He doesnt consider Ukraine a sovereign country, and it was always Russian territory to him.

Just rhetoric.
He previously said that what he wanted was for NATO to guarantee that Ukraine would never be permitted to join NATO.

His country already borders on NATO states. His planes brreak NATO country space many times a year. The invasion is not about another NATO state (which Ukraine is not and has never been) appearing on Russias border, it is about not having a democratic Slavic country that could decide its own fate.

And its own fate to join the EU and NATO.
That was his primary demand.

Or french companies pay-off terrorists in order to continue their business in peace.:wenger:

I wouldn't be suprised if they told Putin they are firmly on his side before it all went off only to back peddle now. Would weaken both the west and russia... China is in it for themselves... not some despot in Moscow.

I understand he is against the Brest-Litovsk treaty.
By the terms of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, Russia recognized the independence of Ukraine, Georgia and Finland; gave up Poland and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to Germany and Austria-Hungary; and ceded Kars, Ardahan and Batum to Turkey.

That does not automatically mean he plans to take back those states. What he wants and reality are two different things.
Ukraine being a non NATO country was an easy target.

The US and other senior members of NATO need to meet with Putin to find an amicable solution. Or we are slowly headed to WW3.

Rather than just talk about who is right, hopefully they can agree to put Humanity first.

That is impossible. They are sending large amount of their soldiers, planes and tanks here even without imminent danger of invasion. You reckon they'd all just leave if the war started, and are here just for fun?
They are there as deterrent, to make Putin think twice about going any further.

I'm just not 100% certain what would actually happen if he did decide to go further, something I'm sure NATO leadership deems unthinkable.

Conclusion: All governments/countries are doing immorale stuff. It's just about degrees of immorality at this point. It's common knowledge, isn't it?

You do realise that Sweden’s biggest customer for its arms and weaponry is the UAE? Saudi Arabia’s key partner in the Yemen war.
