Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

At least google how to use cases.

NATO has been flirting with Ukraine for how long now? Depending on who you listen to, this was one of the triggers for the current invasion. They're in the middle of this, so now the chickens have come home to roost, they can't just wash their hands and pretend like that's not the case.

And some abusive boyfriends will batter their girlfriend for looking the wrong way at the wrong time.

I am very disappointed with the help to Ukraine, I feel a bit ashamed actually, but I do not know, maybe it is just me. I would have thought something more could be done for the poor Ukrainians... This reminds me of the inactions before ww2. .

I agree completely. Putin obviously knew other nations weren't interested in offering help in terms of actual military aid.
He must be pissing himself at how weak the west is looking right now.

So war between Russia and Ukraine is the only way to stop a war between Russia and Ukraine.

Makes sense.
The Russian line is still that there is no war and just an operation in Donbas. Unbelievable as that is, I know.

Sorry, but there is an ongoing invasion going on with Russia as the aggressor. Yet some people seem to be more bothered by NATO and the US than what is currently happening in Ukraine. It's a weird set of priorities, at best.

Agree with this, also seems people are more worried about money and scared of Putin over what's right and that is helping Ukraine.

Feels as if a lot depends on how many people take to the streets in Russia tonight now.

Switzerland are staying neutral and not blocking any transactions for Russian money. This is a joke, too.

Criticising NATO doesnt mean I'm pro Russia. Just like calling their invasion effective and impressive doesnt mean I'm pro Russia.

Maybe stop butting it without context?

Do you even contemplate that peoples mums children are being killed its disgusting to say simple as.

Its one thing commentating on something that's in the past but not in a live invasion as people's livelihoods are being destroyed right this second, that's me done in this thread.

Isn't the main issue with that is that it hurts them too - I'm not saying we all shouldn't take a hit ourselves and do what we can to help stop it but I imagine they're thinking thats last stops because people around the world won't be happy with higher costs and no doubt that will lead to some people wanting military action over having to pay x amount extra for things

Also it's useful for the West to have more things available. If they blow their load now on sanctions they have nothing left except military or just waiting and watch

This Lavrov presser is extraordinary, but also, like Putin's speech, frighteningly dull after a few minutes. They are in complete cuckoo land.

Yeah i feel ashamed too, i know it's a tough decision on weather to aid Ukraine with troops or not because that might start WW3. But right now the "help" the Ukrainians are getting from the west is the equivalent of seeing a homeless man on the street and you decide to help him by giving him 10p. Ultimately you can give more but you don't want to make life uncomfortable for yourself, and whilst that 10p is more than he had before, it's still completely useless to him.

How utterly pointless it'll all seem if Ukraine surrenders today.

It's a good point, all well a good telling you nationals to take up arms, but insurgency is often the best defence in the long run. Take your time.

This whole thing with politicians and leaders constructing and maintaining whole alternative realities is really fecking exhausting.

I struggle with this. I feel like there was no point having 13 border guards on that island when an invasion was imminent. Ukraine should have brought them back to the mainland and join defensive operations.

Just horror all around.

They were clearly not properly armed. An Island can't be sunk. Had they been armed with land based anti ship missiles that warship would have been 300 miles away.

Lavrov now claiming that others would intervene in Ireland or Belgium if they banned English or French respectively.

Russian has never been banned in Ukraine and is spoke freely by most of the population on a daily basis, given Russian speakers lived peacefully all over the country.

So basically oligarchs will be transferring money in francs to buy Kensington houses rather than roubles

Taiwan next if this is the tough sanctions and cutting people off from the world economy
Yes, and Russian trade of natural resources seems to depend totally (80%) on the Suiss banks. And the money can flow back to Russia then.

I wasn't aware of that. I read something about some joint agreement to improve economic and military relationships yesterday. Could be a bunch of BS or old news.
Between India China? Most of our military planning is how to stop Chinese aggresion in India China border. The only reason India has kept silent in Russia Ukraine war is that we do not want Russia to help Pakistan or China against us. If china attacks us tomorrow, who is going to help india?

Awful lot of fetishization of war and Hollywood style Saving Private Ryan type stuff going on in this thread.

"War is hell" but let's all watch videos and celebrate stories of people dying like 14 year olds watching a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare stream.

We routinely turn a blind eye or worse sell the bad guys weapons in many worldwide conflicts so it's no surprise.

It's not an easy call for politicians to make to be fair. You're talking about a decision that would increase the death count ten fold at a minimum. It's choosing between several bad outcomes.

Sachin Tendulkar.

I think we seriously need to rethink our relationships with Russia, China and India in the future.

If the three of them come together.. well...:nervous:

I'm a Pakistani and even I'll tell you that you've got it twisted.

India is in no camp with Russia and China.

India has always tried to remain non aligned even during the cold War. Today its an economic power and more so than ever tries to access every market it can.

China and India also have military beef. Last year China annexed Indian territory.

Also China will only prop up Russia with money and weapons in a war, its likely to not get involved itself. If NATO and Russia fought a long bloody war - China would be the winner.

Some people just love violence and chaos, have a close mate serving in the navy currently and he's up for it so to speak. Lads serving in the military are just a different breed.

How utterly pointless it'll all seem if Ukraine surrenders today.

I mean, everything is totally pointless? We all die within about 80 years anyway so what's the point of anything? Why have any peoples ever resisted an invasion ever?

Some really strange takes on here.

Seems as if they have lost control of the Russian foreign media press conference. They couldn't cut CNN off who kept asking about the strikes on Kyiv. Lavrov now insulting American journalists who have had their manners ruined by spending time in Ukraine.
