One point that Rob Lee made was that Russia was seriously worried about Ukraine buying Turkish drones and using them on the separatists. They would love to knock out those drones.

Would it? Russia accounts for 15% of global energy production, I'm sure we could all cut back 20% of our energy use in our lives.

Energy makes up 40% of Russia's economy and 60% of exports, if they do that then they're screwed financially. There's nothing like an economic crisis to enact populist change and get a country to sort it's shit out.

The problem is that even though we want the Putin regime gone, it's risky to cripple Russia that much, because the populist trends may not produce what we hoped. Destabilizing Russia too much is a dangerous game.

You know nothing about me, what I have done and what I believe in.
And I am most certainly not projecting WW2 bravado, whatever that is supposed to mean.

Most Ukrainians who you refer to, without their knowledge do not now have the opportunity to just get on with their lives.
That is being taken away from them.
And it is my disgust at what is happening to them that I am talking about.

It is the inaction of the West that has allowed this to happen. And we will all pay the price for that. Literally pay the price.

It's not exactly a new idea, is it? The Berlin wall was called anti-fascist protection rampart by authorities, if the US planned to attack someone they'd use communism or terrorism. In general, "even" today in the West, people from left and right both calling each other fascist at the same time is not exactly an uncommon event during arguments.
 
These "unprecedented" and severe sanctions we have been talking about for months, it better be like that. Europe will have to take a severe hit economically no matter what now, it has escalated way too far. No more of that freeze Putin's friend of friend assets in Spain nonsense, they clearly don't care about any of that.

Well, it didn't really help that the Ukrainians themselves were playing down all the invasion intel coming out in the last months. Some strange rhetoric was coming from the Ukrainians themselves. Most likely to prevent panic and the economy from crashing, but still...
 
Wife is now worried about her work, because apparently they get all of their steel for the machines they produce from Ukraine, and the only other place that makes it is Russia.

Border with Ukraine is much bigger and them as NATO ally the picture is quite different than bordering Latvia and Estonia. They already have a cushion with Poland - Belarus.

It may not be new but it's daft and when you look at the entire picture they are throwing everything at Ukraine. If we are not careful they may blame them for Lada's lack of international success.

Not sure how well that will be accepted, nowadays. Energy is seen as a basic right by a lot of people; it will have a lot of resistance.

Also, so much of our work is based around using energy, will it even be possible without damaging businesses?

Russia, supposedly, provides 40% of Europe's natural gas. That would be hard to replace.

Not a good situation for anyone here.

The war against fascism is even more ingrained in Russian society, especially the older generation who experienced the soviet era. 9th May is still widely celebrated as the victory day in "The Great Patriotic War".

It is not how it works unfortunately. Whole plants are working solely on gas. Losing that amount of energy has domino effect on many industries and will cause businesses to shut down within months.

It also shows that the pro-Russian narrative that NATO expansion was the problem was a big lie, when the problem all along, has been the corrupt, megalomanical Russian dictator with delusions of neo-imperialist conquest.
