Rugby World Cup 2007

Alright then, wait until you're pushed back to the halfway line, then attempt it

Silly stuff

feck me NZ out, I was sure they would win it.

We might be able to beat France you know....

Well England have got a much better shout against France than they would have had against New Zealand. France could just as easily play like they did against Argentina as they could play like they did tonight. Glad to see the tournament thrown wide open though

I actually don't believe that France played that badly against Argentina. I think the argies played brilliantly. The Pumas are probably the most underrated team in this tournament.

France vs England it is then. I thought it was a big blow for the All Blacks losing Dan Carter, Kelleher, Jerry Collins and Nick Evans to injuries in the game. Then again it was a weird decision by Luke McAllister to go for a drop goal when he was near the halfway line. Weird decision too that they seem to not want to spread the play to the wings and concentrate to the middle when you have wingers like Rokocoko and Sivivatu, kinda like United in recent times. Unlucky too that there was a clear forward pass in the build up to the French last try. But disciplined defence by the French in absorbing All Blacks pressure.

Several points about today's game:

1. Being a Kiwi, I am absolutely devestated. I have already smashed my bedroom door in (got a sore foot now, mind you) and thrown several things around the place.

2. I know it's a familiar excuse, but the ref was absolutely trash today!! Both French tries were gifted on a plate - the first was when McCallister was off the field, due to a very dubious yellow card, that was barely even a penalty, let alone a card offence.

The second try had a blatant forward pass in, that the Queen mother would have seen, yet play continued.

3. Once again, NZ will go mental, and sack the coaches, despite the fact that they've only lost 6 games, in the last 50 they've played!!

4. South Africa will now be favourites to win the World Cup, as England / France, whilst good teams, just simply don't have the firepower to beat them - mind you, anything can happen.

Trash game, trash referee, roll on 2011 in NZ

Now that Wales are gone, Argentina are my adopted nation. It's an old school rugby mentality. They make their tackles early, and their front 5 have learned from the French and now do it better than them. Hernandez is a little genius too

Hernandez is the player of the tournament so far.

I'm going to make a call now.

France vs Argentina in the final.

Was a poor decision by McAllister mind you to go for the drop goal when he was actually near the halfway line. Didn't really understand why they dodn't want to spread the play as well. Yes, you do have class forwards but you do have class wingers as well.

I knew Hernandez was one of the best 15s in the world, but to win the 10 shirt of Contempomi and control games like he has is unbelievable ... If it's a France-Argentina final, then it's Argentina to win. I still fancy South Africa to win it. They're too hard to play against

Cracking games today. Still can't believe we beat the Aussies, they're a much better side than us. Can't decide whether I'm happy about the French win or not... on the one hand, they're nowhere near as good as the All Blacks, on the other, if they beat us, it'll hurt.

Theres nothing quite so brilliant as a stadium singing the French National Anthem

It's the best national anthem by a street

I am devestated beyond words. So many signs before the world cup and during the group phase that this would be our year, yet we fail yet again when it matters. The ref was appalling and we were unlucky with the injuries, yet the French played their hearts out and no one stepped up for us. Truly Gutting.

Aux aaaaaaaaarmes, citoyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeens !
Formez vos bataillooooooooooooons !
Marchooooooooons, marchooooooooons !
Qu'uuuuuuuuuuun sang impuuuuuuuuuuur...
Abreuve nos sillons !

Let's win this now !

I share your pain mate :( What a horrible day for our country.

I've got no doubts Henry and his coaching team will be sacked now, even though he's one of the greatest coaches we've had.

It seems to be par for the course in rugby that a loss in a major tournament means the management is sacked. It's complete bullshit. I'm Welsh and gutted that Jenkins got sacked, and the thought that Henry will now get sacked is a joke. NZ seemed to lose momentum as they got to the World Cup, but a year ago you had as good a team as I've seen

What I didn't get was why the All Blacks didn't go for a drop goal when they had the chance in the 75th minute. Even if they had missed it there would still be some time left for another attempt. They could have done this instead of turning the ball over to the french and then attempting a drop goal from the halfway line.

southern hemisphere my ass!

seriously, it was annoying to watch the All Blacks cruising through their games. glad they're gone - and the Aussies too.

now I'll be happy to see Argentina win the whole thing.

KF, what you think of McAllister's decision to go for a drop goal when he was near the halfway line towards the end??? Thought it was a terrible one especially since the forward pack was doing well with the drives. Thought you used the forward pack a bit too much though. rarely used the wings at all, a weird decision considering you has Rokocoko and Sivivatu.

Dan Carter, Jerry Collins and Kelleher going off injured certainly disrupted your game. Even Evans went off after about what, 10-15 minutes of coming on?? Thought Graham Henry was going to bring on Andy Ellis when Kelleher went off. Better player than Brendan Leonard IMO.

My sentiments entirely...! But would be funny if France won too as our South African channel has been going on all week about how this will be an all Southern Hemisphere Semi line up...!! There's only one thing better than seeing the Aussies go out and that's seeing the Yarpies go the same way...!!!!

hehe you got your wish laddy

I didn't think the ref was bad, he got the big decisions right*

You lot are the most talented rugby nation, but you're big-time bottlers

*EDIT - apart from the clear forward pass that lost you the match*

We are indeed bottlers, and the more we choke the more the pressure is going to increase. We may be the best team in between world cups but until we win the trophy again we can't consider ourselves the best rugby team in the world. Today we were unlucky with injuries and the ref (not just the foward pass but in the last five minutes alone we had 2 or 3 shouts for a penalty due French infringements around the ruck) but ultimately we still should have done a lot better. You could see the pressure eating away at everyone as the game went on, no one wanted to stand up and make the difference, to try something new. Well done to both the English and the French, neither of you were overawed and rose to the occasion. I hope one of you can beat the Jarpis.

Ridiculous. He was never going to get it and he gave possession away carelessly. If he had the drop goal in mind then there were far better oppurtunities to do so when we were much closer to the line.

I am actually disappointed that the all blacks went out being English I am a rugby fan and love to see great rugby and NZ play the best of it. I don't know about today if NZ would have won they would have thought well its only England and thought its a guarantee to the final all this would have worked in England’s favour like today with the Aussies. The French won't see it that way they will look at England as a threat not a guarantee to the final.

what the feck. once again, a shithead from newcastle who can kick a ball between 2 big sticks has pwned us at the world cup.

vale george gregan and steven larkham.
