Champions England will go for their second World Cup in a row after winning a gripping semi-final against France.

The champions took a second-minute lead through Josh Lewsey's try but two Lionel Beauxis penalties put France 6-5 up at the break.

A penalty apiece from Beauxis and Jonny Wilkinson maintained the gap.

Wilkinson hit the woodwork with a drop-goal with 20 minutes to go but kicked a late penalty and drop-goal to see the champions home.

That was fecking tense

Well done England, that's a champions performance, beating the French in their own back yard, in their own world cup. Can't lose tomorrow, either face the Argies - and you can't say fairer than that in a world cup final - or the box, who we owe from the group stage. I cannot, cannot believe after watching that 36-0 hiding that they've got to the world cup final, unbelievable
 
First Coventry and now England.. I gave England as much chance as I did Coventry in the Carling, so who are my other no hope team to put your money on?? That would be telling wouldn't it.

Well done England, showed what experience at that level can bring even when the fitness and strength aren't what they were. Robinson milked the high tackle, as he should have, and then the way they killed the French attacks in the last minute was fantastic.

Griping stuff yet again

In games as close as that, it's almost better not to be the team leading with 10-15 minutes left. It happens time and time again where the team with their noses in front, will either lose their nerve, or give away a penalty at just the wrong moment. At least if you're chasing the game you know you have to force the issue

Wow, did not expect England to go this far considering the very slow start they had. Be interesting that, to see a final against the Springboks considering what happen the last time you 2 met.

Congrats though.
 
Slow start? The last 4 years they've been really really shite up to a couple of weeks ago and now they're in the final... it's impossible.

South Africa weren't at their best but they were ruthless taking advantage of the Argie's blundering. We'll need to play an immaculate game in the final if we're to beat them

Who you're referring to actually?? Pietersen or Habana?? Habana will be their obvious dangerman. Has excellent pace on him eventhough he got burned by the US winger in the group stages. Watch out for the likes of Percy Montgomery, Burger, Steyn and Matfield. Good players them.

My uncle just flew up to Paris from Malaysia for work and will be watching the final at the stadium. fecking jealous.
 
I don't know if we'll get beat or not, but to make it this far has been a real achievement. And it is a final, anything can happen.

Needless to say i'm well pleased as i'd written us off earlier.

And the RFU WC theme song, World in Union, really gives me chills everytime i hear it now.
