Rugby Union Discussion - Six Nations Time

Scotland haven’t got out of their half, one yellow, two head injuries, and probably should be 15 points down at least.
I was expecting a bit more from them in this match. Mind you, been there before

Haven’t turned up so far. Cant even put together a few passages of play without making an error. Like you say, not massively surprising.

Saving themselves for their World Cup final against england in the next round

Ireland should be out of sight. Scotland's discipline has been poor. Lucky only van der Merwe has spent time in the bin.

No urgency whatsoever. If trophies were awarded for errors & lack of discipline, we’d win them all by a landslide uncontested. Fans around me are getting fed up with this (at long last). Just a pity the SRU are completely blind to it.

Thank feck we’ve got the SB on tonight to make up for this shower of shite.

One of my biggest pet peeves is taking three points from positions like Scotland had. It’s never going to be enough to beat the best teams, you really have to back yourself to get seven points from five meters out under the posts.

Good win. Good to come back into after weathering the storm at the start of the second half. Prendergast with a MOTM performance was much better off the tee, which was good to see.

It'll be interesting to see if they give Crowley a start next game or keep the momentum going for Prendergast.

Ireland are a much better side than us and more than deserved the win.

This generation feels like the only one even remotely capable of winning this tournament in my lifetime (that I can actually remember and enjoy) and yet we’re so far off it.

I was wondering if they gave Prendergast the full 80 with a view to doing the same for Crowley against Wales?

I agree. SRU have wasted a golden opportunity.

I think it’s part wasted part unfortunate. I think there were a good few years in the 2010s where this Scotland team would’ve won the tournament.

We just happen to be up against a fantastic Irish team alongside a very good French team.

Isn’t the issue that you only have half a championship winning team? Your backs are as good as any other team in the 6N. But your forwards aren’t good enough to get the team across the line.

Great photo. Jonah Lomu and Dan Sheehan (aged 4)

So are both England and Wales and they both have won a 6N title within without even being remotely close to having one of their best ever squads in this French & Irish squad quality era. That 2021 one Welsh title victory hurts the most as that 6N title was literally there for us to win.

The year every Welsh opponent had a red card?

There was some dark magic going on that year

Don’t know about every opponent but I know we got one against them when we were winning and cruising comfortably at that point after a brain fart moment by one of the Fagerson brothers.

Yeah England did and Ireland did (o’Mahoney I think). It was when the new head contact laws came out.

Either way, still don’t know how they won it that year.

I think some questions have to be asked about the management. It’s the best generation in ages, Glasgow won the URC….yet the national team just can’t step up and deliver

That’s interesting. Fair play. Not a hope of a football team thinking of player welfare like that in such a massive game.
For his own safety? Or tactical? Presumably for safety….but seems a bit odd given the gravity of the game

Could only be for safety, right?

It was the correct call. You could see he was knocked out, if only very briefly. I wonder if something’s been lost in translation? My understanding is that if the footage of the incident has enough red flags (evidence of KO, wobbly legs etc) then the dressing room assessment doesn’t matter, it’s game over regardless. Maybe what happened is that he passed the assessment but they couldn’t play him because of what the replays showed?

Was strange that he came out and the commentator thought he was coming back on, then he went back inside.

Gotta be a massive doubt for the England game now.

Needs directed towards the SRU. How they gave Townsend a new contract beyond the existing one that was due to expire after the World Cup 2 years ago, is just a mind boggling decision.

Anyways, enough ranting about Scottish Rugby and full focus is now onto the Super Bowl.
