Rugby Union Discussion - Six Nations Time

We’ll be interesting to see how he fairs defensively. The argument against Marcus Smith at international level was always his size, despite him being a tenacious tackler. I haven’t watched enough of Prendergast but I imagine he can get away with it at Leinster with their dominance and the quality in their back row. Might be a bit different at test level

He came on against Argentina and then started against Fiji and Australia and didn't look out of place.

He got a stupid sin binning against Fiji for a shoulder barge but should learn from that.

I wonder if they targeted him effectively as he was still a bit unknown. If he can survive France running Danty at him off every set piece I’ll be a believer

The Irish ref who Mack Hansen slagged off has decided to quite reffing

Obviously couldn’t handle a proper Aussie barracking

I just saw the result of Exeter vs UBB. Are the Chiefs trying to break a record of points conceded in a season?

We never make it easy, losing blueler will be a big loss, he’s quality at the loose head and realistically killer isn’t up to it anymore and Ryan is a tight head

Chiefs are going through an NBA style blow-it-up-and-rebuild phase. They’re not the chiefs that won the competition a few years ago

Just seen the Leinster team for tomorrow. Bath pretty much gave up any shot at Europe when resting players away to Benetton, but you can’t help but agree that there’s little point in English teams trying to compete with the top European teams, or specially Leinster.

Ahh you never know mate, Quins have just scored a beauty to go 12-0 up against the URC’s finest (Glasgow)

It was a closer game than I expected up until the red. A yellow for scrummaging penalties seems a bit unnecessary if I’m being honest, not sure what else Obano is expected to do if he’s being overpowered. Is a penalty not enough of a reward.

Yeah that seemed harsh. Especially with the scrum so far out. So it’s not like he did it to stop an inevitable try.

Although I think the impact of Leinster subs made more of an impact than the extra man. Snyman is ridiculous.

Yeah I know, the game had started to turn before the yellow and Leinster were playing the better rugby for the most part in the first half too. The stronger squad was always likely to be a deciding factor, which is crazy because Bath have been doing that to the rest of the Premiership this year.

How does co-captaining work? Why not just pick one with a back-up/deputy?
It’s usually a one for the forwards and one for the backs type thing. But you’re right, I’m not sure what the difference is between that and vice captains etc.

Maybe gives a team an extra avenue to discuss matters with the ref?

I’m generally not a big fan of 10’s captaining teams. Don’t @ me, I know there’s been some great captains in that position, but just think they have to make enough decisions as it is.

I’m expecting serious things from the England back row, seeing as we’ve left Tom Pearson at home and he’s a complete monster.

As a rugger glory hunter I need to know if we're going to win this before I get involved? Will DuPont's return swing it to the French?

Yeah, France massive favourites. DuPont is the man. Plus they’ve gone and changed the rules to make the game even easier for him.

I think there’s a good chance we lose tomorrow. The way England play is kind of our kryptonite. Plus I wouldn’t fancy going to Murrayfield with one defeat under our belts already.

So yeah, you might want to sit this one out. Although if Ireland do somehow win our first couple of games then you can break out your Leinster jersey and fill the fridge with cans of Probs. Because it will be game on for three in a row (never done before in history of tournament)

I'll keep quiet until halftime tomorrow. Too impatient to wait any longer to make a decision.
