Rugby Union 23/24 Discussion

God I love the 6 nations, fair play to Wales this half. Finn Russell needs to control this game better for Scotland.

Scotland have just never evolved from being a team that can beat anyone on their day but also still being a relatively comfortable victory for any top team that plays well against them. They won't beat France unless the French fail to show up, same as in the World Cup with SA and Ireland. They can be an excellent team but are just too patchy, which ironically is Finn Russell as a player for me. They could win the Grand Slam this year, they have the talent, but I don't fancy them the perform in every game.

it’s the same problem with their independence. deep down they know they don’t deserve nice things, so they self-sabotage.

Unbelievable, or rather believable if your familiar with this Scottish team.

I once had a Scottish guy I work with tell me Russell is a better player than Sexton. No point in your 10 being a genius if he oversees shit like this again and again. Ultimate fair weather player. I've seen it 100 times for Racing and 100 times for Scotland at this point. It's not all his fault but a 10 needs to galvanise his team in moments like this and he fails too many times in that regard. Pains me though because perhaps with the right coaches in his career he could have been amongst the very best.

Holy shit! Just ran the missus into town, come back and the games totally changed

First game as captain and almost in charge of one of the biggest chokes in the history of the game!

Wales ran out of steam at the end

what a fecking game though and credit to Scotland for holding on in the end

He's incredible at his best but is a complete liability a times, most of the time it happens in the same game too! Definitely not what you want from a 10.

Thank feck we held on. God knows what happened in that 2nd half as we just lost all our discipline and just made calamity decision after calamity decision that almost cost us the game against a poor Wales team.

Game of two halves in the end. 1st half was brilliant, 2nd half was terrible.

Never understood the Russell praise. Is he a good player, absolutely. Is he a top player, no way. Top players step up, don’t bow to pressure, make critical decisions, play for the team.

Why couldn’t you have stayed out a bit longer? Selfish!

That game shows where both teams are… either does basics and they score (against the other). Either play like Stevie Wonder and fancy a ten minute rest, they’ll concede.

Play like that v France or Ireland and you’ll get thumped. I knew we were at the start of a cycle so at least young ones might learn something today.

Italy have Wales and Scotland last two… could see them competing.

(PS.. said Scotland aren’t ”all that?” :) . Be amazed if Ireland don’t Slam now. Love the 6 Nations.)

Very very odd. I didn't hear anything about it at all with all the 6N stuff.

Can't help but feel like I've always wanted a yearly Super Rugby vs European Champion game each year as like an end of season type thing. Then they have this and I don't even know about it

It’s almost pointless comparing the two at international level, unless you genuinely think Sexton would have Scotland winning the six nations over the last ten years?

He’s a fantastic player to watch, doesn’t always go his way, but if he’s being compared to one of Ireland’s best ever players, I reckon he’s doing pretty well.
