Rugby League Super League 2010

Aye, a cracker on the cards next week. I've got South stand tickets :D Can't wait.

Knowing Wire, we'll probably get legged up at Cas tomorrow

This is true. We'll know if Wire are a genuine force soon enough. Too many false dawns for Warrington over the years. But with Tony Smith on board and a real strength in the forwards, hopefully this time we'll see a real breakthrough.

Tough conditions, though, mate. The sort of game Warrington would normally lose.

Aye we would normally toss that sort of game away but our defence was superb in the second 40. I think Cas deserved to win though, couple of things went against them and for us so...

Wigan will probably beat us next week what with Morley and Carvell probably banned by the pro-Wigan RFL

Aye, hadn't given that a thought. Trial by television strikes again.

It's true, Boothy ;) Maurice Lindsay's legacy of cutting corners and corruption is alive and well.

That little twat, Tomkins is one of the sneakiest, dirtiest player's around yet never cops a ban.

Watch the Lindsay-influenced RFL ban Gaz and Moz for the big game next week. Nailed on.

I see Bradford are living up to my pre-season thoughts that their prospects this season have been overhyped. 6-38 at home to a Saints team that is on the decline says it all.

Latest: Wakey 20-6 Leeds. Interesting...

Are you writing Saints off already, or just trying to incite JGraham to come steaming back into the thread?!

No, it's just my honest opinion. The current Saints team is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Today was the first time they'd crossed the 18 point barrier in ages. Unheard of for a Saints side.

Leeds, Wire, Wigan, Cas, and Catalans can post more points in their sleep. That's why Saints won't be champions.

Fatty Cunningham, Pryce, Flannery, Fozzard, Meli, and Gardner are either past it or just not good enough for Saints. James Graham is carrying that pack week-in, week-out. Eastmond is going to be a gem but they need a half that can control games next to him. Pryce is not that man, so they'll lack a bit of direction at times this year IMO.

Christ, good win for Wakefield

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 28 v 18 Leeds Rhinos

Leeds came back late on but left it too late, leaving Wakefield at the top of the table for time being. I can see this year being full of suprises, hopefully Catalans can beat Saints next week :D

Isn't that the kind of stuff we find hilarious on RAWK

Yes, can't say I'd be too surprised if both Morley and Carvell missed next Saturday's match against Wigan, I also don't think I could have too many complaints, as long as the RFL keeps to those standards for the rest of the season. I don't actually think that either incident was that bad to be honest, Morley's in particular wasn't as bad as some people would like to make out but still wouldn't be surprised to see them sidelined.

That said I hope they ban that prick McGoldrick while they are at it.

I'd still like to think we could give Wigan a game with those two out but it will be running it close, with them in the team I don't think that Wigan's pack could live with ours.

I also think that we absolutely deserved to win on Saturday night, crap conditions but well worth getting wet for to watch us win a game that for the last X number of seasons we'd have lost quite easily after going ten points down. However we managed to keep them to only six points in the last sixty minutes and put 28 on the scoreboard ourselves, we took our opportunities, Briers looks in the form of his life and we are defending like I have never seen us defend, we finally have a quality 6 and 7 and we might well have the best pack in the league. All we need now is a good and consistent kicker.

Wire are going to stuff em. Our pack is about 50 times better than Wigan's. Moz, Gaz, Harrison, Solomona, Benny, and Louis will punch holes through the middle all day. Monaghan will play of the back of that ala the CC semi. Briers is in fine fettle aswell. The only worry is the success Wigan have been having with the blitz defence under Maguire.

Still fancy us though.

Wire 28-18 Pies.

I think it's going to be a good game, could go either way, but I'm just going to favour Warrington.

They've signed a few players Boothy and all of a sudden think they are the team to beat.

We've seen this all to often with the wire fans though, they come out all guns blazing and then realise they're still not really that good.

I never thought i'd say it, but they've possibly come close to overtaking the Wigan fans on annoyance factor! On this page alone Wirered has written of Saints and Wigan - easy to do when you've had some prolonged success or won the league a few times but when you consider they've won 1 trophy in about 35 years you realise it's all a bit too soon to be doing that!

Oh and on the decline :smirk: See you at KR!

Ey, I'm a Wire supporter thats shed the tears over the years, mate. I think I'm entitled to a little optimism with the squad we have which is on a par with anyone's and with the best coach in Super League.

I never wrote Wigan off, just Saints

Aye, to be fair with the team you've got and the money spent the fans and the chairman must be expecting some return sooner rather than later.

We've a tricky game today like your lot, we're in Catalans which is somehwre we always seem to struggle. But if we get a result there i'd be confident enough to say we're not ready to be written off just yet. Against Bradford we changed a couple of things (the fans have been on at Potter for ages to play Wilkin in a more creative role and add pace to the backs) and it worked out. If we can stay that way then we'll be ok. Wheeler this year will step up and be looked upon like Eastomond imo.

Good day of rugby though today!

Aye, great day of Rugby League.

I will admit that you've got some very promising youngsters coming through. Lomax, Wheeler, and Kyle are as good as any young talent out there. I just think you lack a Long/Briers-type general at HB. I don't think Pryce is the sort of player to compliment Eastmond or vice-versa. I think you'll lack a bit of direction at times this year, that's why I've written yous off. Your pack isn't the greatest either IMO, Graham very much carries the fight to the opposition on his own.

I think Catalans might just edge you today, they are very good on home soil.

I think 90% of Saints fans are of a similar opinion regarding the half back combination, Prtce had a stormer last week but we see that kind of performance far too infrequently. That's why I wanted Wilkin to be played at 13 because he's more of an organiser and can give Pryce & eastmond more chance to be 'creative' lets say. It seemed to work last week I just hope Potter sticks with that.

The pack will be fine for me - Tony Puletua is great, just needs to find some form and Fozzard even at the age he is now is a no nonsense player who'll take it up all day. I would have liked us to bring another big forward in but it's just not possible at the minute - Tronc was a player i'd have liked to come to Saints, he'd have complemented Graham perfectly.

What's your prediction for your game?

As a Wire fan I want to place on record that I haven't written either Saints or Pies off!

I think we'll win by 8-10 points. I think we will be more battle-hardened than Pies after our slog against Cas last week. Wigan yet to be tested IMO.

I wouldn't be sticking any cash on either team though. Tough one to call without the primrose and blue specs.

This is true! i can't call this one - both teams have looked decent so far, but you've both played relatively straight forward games.

First big test for both sides - if moz & carvell had been banned it'd be Wigan all the way, seeing as they got let off it's definitely too close to call.

I can see Wigan winning it, by a small margin, but still pushing it. Wire didnt sound too comfortable at cas, their team performance was awful, Wigan have looked strong each match, and hopefully will carry it on into todays game :D

C'mon wigan.

I think your being a little harsh there. The conditions were monsoon-like and Cas had just come off the back of beating Leeds. I think it'll work in our favour because it'll toughen us up physically and mentally. Perfect preparation for this weeks game IMO.

Wire won 16-28. Good result but shit team performance.

;)

I know it was a shite performance. What I'm saying is that there were mitigating circumstances ie. Weather, Cas bouncing after a big win, Cas with a fervent home support backing them.

The way we dug out the win will stand us in good stead for the game today and the rest of the season.

If we'd have beat Cas with ease ala Quins we'd still be lacking that battle-hardened element IMO.

That game last week will do us the world of good, regardless of today's result.
