Rugby 2018 Discussion

I missed the first half, I'll watch it later.

Highlanders beat the Blues 41-34 in an entertaining game in Dunedin.

The Blues looked surprisingly good in this one. The typical Blues brain explosions weren't happening for once and if Gatland stays healthy I could easily see them not bringing up the bottom of the NZ conference. I think they badly need the structure Gatland brings if they are going to do anything this year.

Rebels 45 Reds 19. Brad Thorn's super rugby coaching debut didn't go according to plan to put it mildly. Scott Higginbotham was red carded 10 minutes into the match. Players who earn red cards for contact to the head now are pretty dumb with the guidelines that came in last year in mind. Surprised the commentators wanted yellow when it looked like a clear enough red.
That lock that received a yellow for dropping Genia on his shoulder/head probably would've received red had Higginbotham not been sent off already. The Reds indiscipline was shocking in the period I watched before giving up on the game.

These new rules that are being implemented in the breakdown are set to destroy rugby as we know it. It seems every time new rules are implemented they are made to the benefit of New Zealand rugby. There's already a huge chasm between them and the rest, have no idea why anyone would try to make rule adjustments so they can benefit more. The blokes that run rugby have to understand that it's competitiveness is far more important than the style they think fans want to see. It's like Tennis quickening up every court during the Jesusfed days.

The player you mentioned who should have seen red has been cited and is looking at a suspension. Ill discipline was a problem for the Reds last year, specifically tackle related ill discipline so Brad Thorn has a job on his hands to eradicate that issue. The Blues haven't beaten a fellow New Zealand team for two years or something.

I think they were unnecessary changes for the most part.

At the start of the Sunwolves vs Brumbies super rugby match, Tim Horan made a pretty big blunder during the commentary.

This is what the 80 test Wallaby said: ''Christian Lealiifano back with the Brumbies after three or four months with Ulster in the Premiership''.

Oh dear.

Ireland deserve the lead, should be further ahead if anything.

Shape up Wales for feck sake

How that was so close is beyond me. Credit to wales for hanging in there

I feel sick after that. Not sure why it took us to get shat on in the first 10 minutes of the first half for us to actually start playing some rugby.

It's the hope that kills you. After Evans scored that try I actually thought we were going to sneak a win. To leave without a bonus points in shit.

Ah well. I can't stand the Irish rugby team but I hope they shit on England in the grand slam decider.

Both teams could justifiably pick at Glen Jackson's performance today. The fact that it evened out means it probably won't be talked about, but there could have been a few key decisions actually taken that neither team could have quibbled with.

Jesus Christ, this team don't do easy wins do they? Johnny going for the line from that penalty was crazy shit! Got there in the end against a very good Wales side. Defense needs to be sorted out. Always nice to get the win and super nice to get it over an insufferable Welsh side and their dickhead coach.

I can't see England turning this around. Too much momentum.

That last true was inexcusable. Watson and Brown need to do better.

Close call. The cynic in me says if that wasn't intercepted then Scotland wouldn't have been given a pen.

I know it’s a knock on under the rules but knock ons from a tackle is a stupid rule

Why is it different if you chagre down a kick? That should be a knock on as well.

Not if you control it … it can't hit the ground. Owens penalised Scotland for it around 20 in.
No I know, it's just silly.

What's this? It hits the ground here. Has the rule changed?
