Rugby 2017 Discussion

Could be going in much worse than 7 down after that half. So that's a plus I guess

That's what I thought, lucky it's only a converted try. It's the silly, needless pens we are giving away that's most frustrating.

absolutely. Putting them under even a little bit of pressure would be nice too.

Wtf is with all these box kicks England. We may need the ball at some stage!

Come on ref get a hold of the English players, clear targeting of sexton, no attempt to even wrap there with the late tackle.

It's a french referee, they are hopeless.

Ireland is the greatest country ever.

Well that died with a wimper.

No arguments there. Well played Liverpool. Errr Ireland.

Only a small thing, but it's a part of the experience! Come on Ireland
Win nothing cnuts! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Celebrating like champions for showing up because of your hatred for another country,

Try winning something for yourselves for a change!

Channelling all that hatred and energy positively rather than negatively earlier in the competition might mean you actually have some respect … you are a bunch of game raising cnuts … sort yourselves out!!

You have to earn every win, and Ireland earnt theirs today.

Where was that fight when they still had the chance to win the trophy last week? Enjoy the win, but I'd be pissed off if i supported Ireland.

18 wins in a row and back to back 6 nations is a great achievement but feels a bit shite right now.

I don't watch ruggers but haven't Ireland won this tournament in very recent seasons?

You are coming across as a bit of a twat

There wasn't much between the odds on the two teams before the tournament began, if anything Ireland underperformed this season.

I'm not overly certain it's game raising, it's just what it is, none of these are Englands biggest games...but Wales and Ireland especially, England are their biggest game, and incredibly, despite the Southern Hemisphere big boys, by some margin too. For instance, this is a bigger win for Ireland than when they beat New Zealand, my twitter/facebook seems to back that up. Ditto Wales if they did the same.....even though it truly shouldn't be, it's a mentality that's holding both nations back come the World Cup. I'm not overly certain it rings as true for Scotland though, I dunno, definitely not France, thus why their World Cup record is better.

Englands 6N run has been pretty remarkably consistent though. Not sure I remember a better run, and given next years fixtures, I'm sure another 4 wins should be on the cards.

2011 4-1 (L @ Ireland by 16)
2012 4-1 (L vs Wales by 7)
2013 4-1 (L @ Wales by 27)
2014 4-1 (L @ France by 2)
2015 4-1 (L @ Ireland by 10)
2016 5-0
2017 4-1 (L @ Ireland by 4)

I dispute that this is bigger than breaking a 108 year streak :D

You are questioning if England is the biggest game for France?

Away wins are hard. That's the bottom line in Six Nations rugby. A grand slam is an awesome achievement. If England had showed up like they did against Scotland, they might have run up a similar score (and I said it was a possibility). However, they didn't show up for the first half, which happened to Ireland too in Edinburgh. England have glaring leadership problems too. They are still a better team than us at the moment though, unquestionably.

Well France seemingly (used to) raise their standards the best for New Zealand in a World Cup, at least until they got smashed 2 years back, and New Zealand in a World Cup should be everyones biggest game.

Twice in the last five years (the same as England) and three times in the last ten years (the same as England).

This fixture was always the big banana skin and Ireland simply played better on the day. It also continued the theme of away days being extremely difficult apart from Rome. Still compared to 18 months ago, England are in a very good place.

The crunch is the biggest game by far, the great performances against New Zealand mainly came when France had exceptional players and most of the time the best or second best scrum and lineouts in World Rugby.

Yes, it is.

Fair. To be honest it's hard to tell with France because they seem to raise their game or completely go to shit irrespective of the opposition.

With Ireland Scotland and Wales it's quite obvious how much they hate us :)

They all love to hate us. This is not new?

You have a short memory or are fairly young.

I think the points going a bit astray here. France and England clearly see New Zealand as their challenge, and more or less, depending on the era and squad at the time, are confident that they are on Australia/South Africas level, thus you'll never truly see them or their fans rejoicing over wins in the 6 Nations over specific nations, unless it's leading to the Grand Slam or was something special. Even when they shouldn't be holding their own.....they sometimes do (2007-2011 World Cup Finals for instance were both far closer than they had any right to be).

Ireland/Wales seemingly still see England as their New Zealand, forget about seeing themselves on the levels of Australia or South Africa, though I think Ireland are starting to move forward in general and this game was just more about getting over a pretty shitty tournament for them, given they got wins over all 3 last year, and now England too.

Bring on the Lions series I say.

I think you're all a bit mistaken about Ireland, sure we see the English as the team we want to beat but New Zealand are still the benchmark. We are delighted to beat England at home To salvage a poor campaign in which we still finished second, that's just natural, not hate fuelled. The New Zealand win was way bigger.

Good game from us considering, we had 3 championship debuts, POM finally started and it looks like we have 3 class scrum Half's to pick from now, that kick at the end was something else.
the only real problem area going forward looks like full back unless Zebo is moved there for next year as that's were he usually plays his club rugby now, the centre partnership will only improve over the next few years with both of them playing club rugby together and there will be competition for those spots with a few other young centres coming through, the production line for back rows is also showing no sign of slowing down.
Irish rugby may be let down with the championship but there is a lot to look forward to in the coming years
