Let’s not kid ourselves here. Fred looks good because the rest of the squad has been underwhelming. In terms of quality, he is easily replaceable via some good transfers.
I think the mobility thing kind of depends on what the plan is and who else we buy. We have to presume we're going to move towards a more energetic style. But I don't think that means every player in the side needs to be the quickest player around, certain positions have less emphasis on that quality. You don't exactly see Modric or Kroos legging it around.
He should have the positional nouse to give himself the run on opposition counters. We don't need him bombing into the opposition box too often. Ultimately it shouldn't be all that frequent that a midfielder like him is completely exposed IF we get our structure right and he understands his job. His job really is to improve our buildup, work hard, occasionally offer a long shot threat.
It's hard to get every quality in one package, Neves can give a lot in lifting our passing level, but yes you can get a more all round option, probably. They come with their own risks like relatively unproven, or maybe their technical level isn't as good.
I guess the worry is we also have Maguire. Maybe that's a bit too much of a recovery problem down the spine. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be worried at all.
I didn't know Rice was good at this. Neves is extremely immobile so would be at a disadvantage in this comparison if Rice can do that too.Not sure if we are in for Neves or Phillips but if we do are and thats ten hag’s choice then we can safely assume he is looking for a midfielder who is abit deep and defensive, kind of a DLP who can switch the ball around and stretch the play.
The common denominator between neves and rice is that both are comfortable in possession, both have excellent range and accurate in their passing, both sit infront of defenders, pick up the ball from deep and can break the lines. It makes sense if you know how ETH likes to play. With wingers positioned wide and stretching the pitch he wants his midfielders to pick them and create a one on one situation or overload with a charging RB/lb. Having said that I would be happy with either of the two.
Sorry my bad, I meant Phillips not Rice. Don’t know how I fecked it up . But I agree with your assertion regarding Neves that he is not as agile you would like your midfielder to be. As of Rice, he is way too expensive but abit more solid and disciplined than both above. I rate him highly.I didn't know Rice was good at this. These clubs see United coming a mile off. Moyes said the same about Rice last summer and is now saying he's a £150m player. Ludicrous.Wolves manager rates him at £100 million
Nope, that’s harsh on Fred. He looked better because he been played further forward in his natural no.8 position. He isn’t and never was a no.6. Same can be said about McTominay but I think Fred is a better player than Scott. I can see Fred being our POTYLet’s not kid ourselves here. he is allowed to, his club wont thoughWolves manager rates him at £100 million
Utd have been overpaying for so long that teams just double the asking price and expect Utd to pay. It brings too much pressure on the player when you sign them for huge fees. I would prefer Utd pick up a few bargains rather than spluging the whole transfer kitty on one player in the hope he transforms the team.
The United tax. We should walk away and seek alternatives to stop this shit from happening.Wolves manager rates him at £100 million
yeah what a nonsense, imagine being the only midfielder doing defending and attacking on your own pretty much. He's looking very good despite that, he's carrying the midfield at the moment. And he's been doing that for years.. only now it's very obvious because of several players out of form and overal team being in deep shite.Let’s not kid ourselves here. Last i heard dippers weren't spunking 80m on maguire. We've set a bad precedent at being ripped off.Tell them Liverpool are after him and see the price drop down to £20m paid over 15 years. Cnuts. Always hated Wolves.

I think I see the argument you're trying to make, but when we signed Mata, Matic, and Blind, they didn't have any "physical deficiencies". Mata was short, is that what you mean? He and Matic were brilliant when we first got them. Blind was not good enough at the time but I think he'd romp whatever position he tried to get in our team today. Schweini was old, is that what you mean? Falcao was a flop here, true, but was worth the gamble. Maguire should be put in the technical deficiencies bracket. He's physically strong just has the skills of a statue. I don't think anyone was under the impression LuDonkeyU, AWB, James, or Fellaini were somehow rippers hiding their talents. No, I think we all knew exactly what we were getting. James had the potential to maybe build on his game, but didn't happen. Fellaini was the act of a desperate manager who was told he was getting Fabregas, Bale, and Ronaldo in the same window, and got nobody.United need to stop signing players that have glaringly obvious issues, whether it is technical deficiencies (lukaku, wan bissaka, dan james, fellaini) or physical (mata, matic, schweinsteiger, maguire, ronaldo, blind, falcao). Neves would be another one. Every time we do this fans on here convince themselves that it will be fine once the player gets here, and it seems after all those flops some still haven't learned.
Considering that Kante consists the 80% of that partnership, we are fecked if we rely on Fred. We'd need an athlete next to him for this to make any sense. Not sure he'd do well with this much space to cover, though if we play a 4-2-3-1 like 2018 Ajax instead of the lopsided formation Ajax now play it could work. And Fred-Neves would probably be actually sort of competent together as a discount Kante-Jorginho style partnership.

tl; dr Ruben Neves would walk into this side.
Who is this guy?
I don't know what like for credibility United Muppetiers are, but they've been saying Ten Hag is involved just now, just not in the days leading up to ajax gamesThis link and any other can be filed under nonsense until ETH actually starts his job here. At the moment he is focused on winning Ajax the title which is very tight and he has alot to do, the squad is hitting its limit in terms of energy and pace in games.
Portuguese midfielder who plays for Wolves.Who is this guy?
Well its been widely reported hes been having zoom calls with United players already, so he is quite obviously involvedI don't know what like for credibility United Muppetiers are, but they've been saying Ten Hag is involved just now, just not in the days leading up to ajax games
