You dont reckon he is press resistant?

I think we should get a solid DM/DLP like Kamara and a mobile, creative CM in the Modric/Veratti mould. Dunno who that is though.

He’s 24 and not a regular starter for his national team. Why is that? Let’s not look over the red flags because we are desperate. There are so many options out there. We can’t afford to get it wrong at any price. Let him go Arsenal.

Seems a realistic signing.

Keep reading that ETH likes to have 2 playmakers in the CM positions and Fred and McTominay simply aren't.

Fred gets so much stick on here but he’s been one of if not the best player for United this season

Get him and Tielemans through the doors, if we can deal better we can get them both for a combine fee of 75m I reckon, A midfield of Neves, Tielemans and Bruno should dominate most epl teams, occasionally rotate that with Fred, VDB and MCT, add the youngsters coming through we should be set in that department.

I have not watched Neves much. But as I see he is not preferred in the Portugal National team and think that should maybe be a bit of a red flag.
I do not see a reason to compare him to Rice as Rice is not an option due to price tag and no champions league.
Tchouameni looks good on paper but not many French players seems to have success in United or in premier league (Kante the exception).
Tielemans is not a DM (which must be the priority).
For me Kamara as a free agent seems to be good chance even thought French :-)

I think Fred has been good the last few weeks yes. But it's been where he's more advanced. He isn't a deep playmaker by any stretch.

Prefer him over Rice all day, every day.

Similar position but different attributes of players. I think Neves is great at breaking the lines with his great range of passing, this is an asset for a team that is looking to handle possession for long periods and it's a massive incentive for the forward players to make runs and create spaces.

Rice however for me is very good defensively, it's his positioning that's underrated. Ferdinand provided some insight on his podcast that he would position Carrick to cover certain angles which allowed him to essentially widen his defensive zone often helping to double up with the fullbacks or cover a runner of the opposition in a space that could be threatening.

If we take this into consideration Rice would then have a drastic effect on not just the midfield but also how robust the defence is. It's almost like signing a player for two positions and no matter how much a team dominates the ball the team must be equally compliant when out of possession. Both options are good, league experience is a bonus too.

Tchouameni and Neves would make for fine midfield options.
Problem is, that's 100m worth of talent. I'd love Tchouameni and Kamara, then a young striker to rotate with Ronaldo and ideally Pau Torres to replace Maguire.

Aye, ano. Whenever way we look at it this summer transfer window would cost a small fortune to get right, Greenwood has really set us back a long way. Be interesting to see how the club handle it.

If we are working with Rangnick and Ten Hag, I'd look more towards players much earlier in their career that arrive with ambition and would respond to active coaching without having to unlearn habits they already picked up.

Tchouameni and Kamara would be a really negative midfield, you've got to have a playmaker next to one of them.

His contract expires in 2023. They will sell for a cut fee.

Every week a manager calls their star midfielder a £100m+ player and every week some posters seem to take the comment at face value.

That's interesting. I wonder if Tielemans (rumoured to be available for £25m) and Neves would make a good double pivot. Garner comes in too.

Is neves a playmaker? I’ve always thought he was more of a sitter that looks to spray passes around the pitch. Can’t say I’ve watched him much but he doesn’t get many assist does he?

If ETH decides he is a player he needs for his system, then we listen to him (hopefully) and buy him.

He's a deeplying playmaker, a little like Carrick.

This chap is going to have a problem in defensive transition if he's utilised in a compact high block. His problem will be off the ball and he'd be better utilised in a team that adopts a low/mid block.

Good player but no more than 40m worth, United tax included. We need to make that budget stretch this year.

Problem with this type of "he's good but..." signing is that after 1 season we will be listing a bunch of players we would like to sign to upgrade on him.

I guess given the extent of the rebuild we have on our hands and the limited budget it's the best we can do right now.

This. He's not mobile enough.

I think the mobility thing kind of depends on what the plan is and who else we buy. We have to presume we're going to move towards a more energetic style. But I don't think that means every player in the side needs to be the quickest player around, certain positions have less emphasis on that quality. You don't exactly see Modric or Kroos legging it around.

He should have the positional nouse to give himself the run on opposition counters. We don't need him bombing into the opposition box too often. Ultimately it shouldn't be all that frequent that a midfielder like him is completely exposed IF we get our structure right and he understands his job. His job really is to improve our buildup, work hard, occasionally offer a long shot threat.

It's hard to get every quality in one package, Neves can give a lot in lifting our passing level, but yes you can get a more all round option, probably. They come with their own risks like relatively unproven, or maybe their technical level isn't as good.

I guess the worry is we also have Maguire. Maybe that's a bit too much of a recovery problem down the spine. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be worried at all.
