Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Great to see this get completed. I'm hoping he's the one that can finally bring us back to a good level again. No pressure. :lol:

I like what I've seen of him and I'll be interested to see where he takes us tactically. Head Coach as well which is a first, so clearly the football structure above will be taking a greater role.

Will be very excited for him to start in a few weeks. Hoping for some more wins under Ruud in the meantime.

What a day, bought my first home and new United manager! :nervous:

He isn't perfect. For all the praise for what he achieved with us, there's also some low points. For example, before we won the league last season, the previous year we came 4th, which in Portugal is a fireable offense. But he had the trust of the board, overcame the bad phase and the rest is history.

He needs time and patience. I don't know if he has that with the bipolarism of United fans. Also United board doesn't seem as professional, with long term vision and strict objectives as Sporting board. The way they handled the Ten Hag affair last year show that. It's more of immediatism and going with the flow.

Wonder if we’ll go back to Fernandez for that LWB option. I know he’s not world class but I’m not aware of too many world class LBs to be honest.
Totally agree with the players who’ve been here under multiple managers. Don’t deserve another chance.
 
Im more excited about this appointment than I was about Ten hag, at the time I never even heard of Ten hag. tbh I never knew much about Amorim until seeing the posts on here, ive since done quite a bit of research on him. There seems to be more of a buzz, there is definitely more tactical run down videos of Amorim than there was of Ten hag.

Im excited we've gone continental this time, and will see a continental brand of football being played.
Excited we have a manager that will bring a new dynamic, 3-4-3 isnt often seen in the PL and especially not for a United side. ( Conte won the PL and FA CUP with a 3-4-3 formation at Chelsea)

Barring Mourinho, when have United ever had a charismatic manager from the continent? Never! This is definitely a shift in philosophy.
For those saying how is it any different from Eth, well these are my reasons!
 
Poor Amorim will be a meme by the end of the season. This is what United do to you.

It should not be underestimated that he won the league twice (well on his way for 3 wins out of 5), as a Sporting coach.
Even if the league is smaller (which it is), he was going against Benfica and Porto, which are both bigger and stronger clubs.
He was the underdog. He had no business wining.

Would you say the same if it was Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Stuttgart, Marseille/Monaco or Feyenoord wining 2 out of 4 domestic leagues?
 
The only reason Im cautiously optimistic about this manager is that we seem to have a board who might know what they are doing and wont repeat the previous mistakes.

ETH was a good coach but for 2 seasons the club was in ownership turmoil and he had no support . He bought poorly had constant drama - Ronaldo, Sancho, Greenwood, Antony.

It feels like even fans are done with Shenanigans and wont tolerate any player who cant give it all on the pitch ( read rashford ). I just hope and pray this is the guy who brings back positivity to the club

After Mourinho and Van Gaal it was imperative that we seek managers whose best years are ahead of them. It will blow up in our faces 9 times out 10 but that one time will be so much sweeter. The risk with managers that have been there and done that is that you can catch them at the tail end of their prime when their philosophy is just getting outdated.

Like you said Alonso, Zidane and Aterta, yes him, have delivered when someone took a chance on them. Outside Tuchel is there any other manager with a strong background that still belongs in the elite bracket that we can name and would be a realistic target? There are only about three people who would be sure things and they are all beyond us due to who they are working or have worked for.

I was excited for EtH, too, look how that turned out. Changing managers will do nothing until there's meaningful changes in the structural support they receive. In that way, I guess I'm happier about the 'Head Coach' bit more than the man himself. Maybe we don't set this fella up to completely fail right off the bat. But having an idea and executing it well are two different things.

I guess you missed the complete overhaul in structure over the past few months?!
 
I don't understand people talking about him being the same as eth. Yes both well respected but one took 3 years from coach to top level manager and won 2 league titles for a club who hadn't won for 19 years and dominated his league at the age of 39. The other far more slow burn into dominating a 1 team league.
 
I can remember when we got EtH, this place was going into paroxysms of onanistic delight. I am looking into the future and can just see, when he doesn't deliver the Premiership, FA Cup and European Cup within his first 2 years, this place will then be calling for his head. Hopefully INEOS have put a good management team in place and we won't be spunking £80 mill on misfits.

I'm in the same position, I was absolutely convinced ten Hag would be the right fit for United and I've been stung off the back of it.

We need the structure to be like a well oiled machine, this is what will enable Amorim the best chance of being successful.

Anyway, let's hope this has a different ending and get behind him!
 
Does anyone have any information what this "head coach" title means? So he is not our manager? If not, then who is?

Now that dust is starting to settle we have to admit the reality that Amorim is a huge gamble. Not because he lacks talent or is from lesser league but because most likely he will want to change our system to 3-4-4 and we dont have money to fund all of the purchases required for such dramatic shift

A significant switch requires significant money. City had that, for Pep, Arsenal somehow did too for Arteta, we clearly do not. So, wtf are we thinking? How is this supppsed to work?
 
We usually have success when someone comes from sporting. Ronaldo, Nani, Bruno. All decent signings.

We should win most games if he’s playing an extra player every week… on a serious note though 3-4-3 suits the players we have now. Mainoo and ugarte at the base, the 3 main CBs. Only position we may struggle is the wing back areas.

Great news. As previously said, far more excited about this than Ten Hag. Has the right personality for the job. Ten Hag never did. They are worlds apart from that score. That's why I don't think there is a comparison to be had with Ten Hag. I always had doubts about Ten Hag.

We have to give this man time and resources. Let's hope we aren't employing a 'philosophy' manager and that he understands that he has to adapt and evolve and not stick to one way.

Let's nor moan if we don't win a trophy but are able to challenge for titles eventually and are getting top 4 and being progressive in the Champions League initially.

Let's hope that the Theatre of Nightmares becomes one of dreams and reality again.

Don't think he cares. He'll have fecked off to manage PSG or accepted a billion dollar contract to manage the UAE national team or something to that effect, and City will possibly be finding the best coach they could source from League one.

If you look at the squad it actually fits 343 surprisingly well. Main issue will be left wing back in the short term, but certainly won’t need a major squad rebuild.

Ha! Yes i meant 3-4-3

We have 3 proper CBs for his system only if Martinez, De Ligt, and Yoro are all fit, but I don't think our other CBs are good fit for his system, so we clealy have depth problem.

As for wingbacks, Dalot probably can play, not sure Mazroui is good for that, and we have nobody on the left. Shaw is never fit, Malacia cannot do it, and neither Garna not Rashy are good enough defensively to do it

I think we are missing a lot for his system to work
