Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Adapted his tactics a bit recently to what he has had available, playing a low block. Has made Utd a lot harder to get at and we saw some really good play in that second half, so more promising signs.

Well that was awkward. We outplayed Arsenal and missed a number of easy chances. I do feel for him.
It's been like this for most of the season but people just want to blame the manager or the formation because it's easier. We've stopped conceding 4 goals a game and 30+ shots, we're creating chances but absolutely no one can find the net unless it hits them in the arse and bounces in.

Considering we were forced to play Onana, Lindelof, Eriksen, Casemiro, Zirkzee/Hojlund, all on the pitch at the same time, not a bad game. None of them would get starts for any of the other top 17 teams in the league. Neither would Dalot on his pathetic performances this season.

We've played well in a low block since Ole, nothing is new there. Our issues have always been with breaking teams down who play a low block, and that has also been present since Ole, we just have worse players now.

Yeah, its been shit, I wont lie. Sometimes, I want to say he should be sacked when the emotions are flowing. But we deserved to win today.

If there's a recent game where you simply cannot blame the manager for anything, it's this one. Nothing more he could have done.

If performances build on that we might not be that far away after the summer

Player quality in attack let us down again as is expected (by some of us). Otherwise a decent performance against a far superior side.

At least with him you can see what he wants to do and it’s quite clear why some things work and others don’t. With other managers it’s been difficult to tell what the strategy actually is.

Awful first half. Very good second.

Should have won it really.

Considering the circumstances it was a good day.

Only small nitpick is that I want Heaven starting over Lindelof. I’d quite like to see him & Yoro either side of De Light. Think it could be really good.

Suddenly we can actually play under this system just lack quality in the players, who would have thought?
Think that’s a little too simplistic a view.

I think it’s obvious we do have a fair few game raisers in our team. That’s now defeats avoided against city, Liverpool and Arsenal twice.

We were terrible in that first half going forward because of the players not utilising the system well.
Our wide cbs were too deep, Mazraoui was too deep and Garnacho was too wide.

Second half all of a sudden Heaven and De Ligt are coming out more, Lindelof is pushing forward. Garnacho is moving across attacking areas, balls moving quicker and we suddenly look very threatening.

But it’s not natural for the players and that’s why they struggle with it. I think going in 1-0 surprised the team and their confidence was lifted and all of a sudden they started taking risks. I mean I’ve never seen Mazraoui that far forward so constantly.

this thread in something..

no coach will turn onana into a keeper or hojlund into a decent striker.

great second half, the quality on the bench was just embarrassing to see.

It was a very odd game. For the first 20/25 minutes, they were all over us (without really doing too much, tbf) and we struggled to get out of our half, bar a few moments where Garnacho broke free on the right hand side. Then, we grew into the game and scored a great free kick. Looked dangerous for a lot of the second half with some great chances, then had a slump before and after when they scored. But, we finished the game well and could have won it at the end. We also could have lost it with Onana's parry back into danger. So, there is that.

On balance, a 1-1 is probably more than most fans hoped and expected for today. Think he did the best he could with who and what he had at his disposal. There just isn't that good striker to put away the chances for us. Forget about a 9/10 striker. We haven't even got a 6 or 7/10. Or even a 5/10, really.

I don't think that these things are independent to who the manager is. Developing players is a big part of a manager's job, putting them in a mental state that is conducive to confident and efficient performances is also his job.

That's where I'm kind of lost with many fans, basically managers are useless, they have no responsibility, results and performances have nothing to do with them. In that case the best move is to not have one.

It appears some definitely seem to think that way. Last season we often seen a list of factors trotted out for Ten Hag to explain that we shouldn't have expected him to do any better than 8th. Injuries, Takeover, Ronaldo, Greenwood, Sancho, Global warming etc. ignoring the biggest factor that held us back. His management.

This season I can't think of one player bar maybe Amad and Bruno recently who has looked like his confidence isn't shot. Virtually to a man this teams morale is in the shitter, and whether or not people realize or want to admit it. That plays a huge factor in performances.

thought he managed the game brilliantly. My only gripe would be I thought he should’ve replaced Eriksen with Toby about 10 minutes earlier.

There's at least 8 teams with better than those 4 as a collective. Rashfords on Villa's bench.

We've scored the 15th most goals. We'd expect more, yes but there's a limit to these players. Garnacho missing chances isn't on Amorim.

No but to be fair he had 8 goals in around 20 games up until November but hasn't scored under Amorim. So something isn't right.

No place for Yoro? I think he's been very good last 2 or 3 games. Done well defensively and the way he comes out with the ball is Rio like. He rarely gives the ball away. I think we have a WC player in the making.

The comeback vs Everton looking like it's maybe a turning point?

Been much better since then. If we had a decent striker, and the reason we don't is nothing to do with Amorim, then we'd be so much better off.

What do you mean suddenly? Our best performances came against Arsenal and Liverpool months ago. We're nothing more than game raisers
Game raisers or not it shows the system works when players play it properly. It's not a system problem, it's a lack of talent problem.

A minor positive is that we are maybe getting a little harder to beat. Exclude shoot outs and i think that's 3 defeats in 15. Hardly worth shouting about but an improvement and something to build on.

Really hope we get a big night Thursday

His role has changed to be a provider. Anytime Garnacho passes we create something. The issue is that 95% he prefers to run and shoot from difficult angles.

If we're ultra-critical I think you could say the subs came a little too late. You could see us getting deeper and deeper just before Arsenal scored and Collyer's legs were needed in that midfield.

A game of two halves, first half Arsenal controlled more of the game offered very little threat. Bruno scored a well placed free kick. Second half the performance was much better, consider Bruno / Hojlund chances to been ones they should have scored essentially being 1 on 1.

We need to get a more robust (still technically sound) midfielder and move Bruno back to #10. A new tricky #10 to play the other role. Yoro definitely has a place here, but let's not get carried away.

So same as before Amorim came yet the fact is he hasn't scored since November.
