Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I’m starting to think he’s done here. Next couple of league games are crucial to if he survives. If we slip a few places in the league (which in current form is more than likely), then I think he’ll get told to play to the player’s strengths until the end of season. Then he goes.

I wouldn’t want to be the person who selected the team today. He’s surely getting a real earful from Amorim after that game.

Yeah, that’s not the match to be fuming at the players. When the average Caf member can predict that team selection is going to produce an insipid display, then that’s entirely on the manager.

I genuinely think the players we have are simply not good enough; We need to be ruthless with upgrades and patient only with the youngsters like Mainno, Amad and Garnacho. That is the only way out of this rut, not just changing managers.

Actually there are more positive signs than negative.
But just wait and see. It's going to be great future for Amorim here!

Whatever about the team selection the players were a disgrace for 60 mins.

Everything was slow and backwards. They were meek and cowardly and the manager was absolutely fuming after the game.

I interpreted it more like he was calling them idiots for failing to do basic research
Fair enough. Not see the full post match interview to know if he gave a detailed answer on his reasons to select Dorgu at RWB other than "he can play there according to Wyscout".

If he did, then that comment is not as bad as it seems in isolation.

The fullback situation is pissing off a lot of people (me included) and I honestly think people are venting over how maddening Dalot's performances have been at times, how annoyed we are with Luke Shaw's fitness, and the fact that Mazouri doesn't play very well in that role either. It just feels like one of those things that's gone on for so long.

Worth noting that Quenda played on the left today, and is usually a right back, and apparently did pretty well.

Did he said that seriously or was he joking there? If he was serious with that then I'm worried. If this is how we scout our players and how our coach gets to know the players then we have no hope in hell.
He obviously taking the piss out of the question about a player who has played on the right for the majority of the season at Lecce

The board will of course know our budget for next season and if it means that we can't spent big then they must see the trajectory.

He doesn't seem capable of getting a tune out of the current squad. Maybe it is just me being hopeful, but the return of Luke Shaw and Mount could trigger somewhat of a revival.

I don't know how people watch us play every week. I'm grateful I live on the other side of the world with shit internet. This is the worst we've ever looked. We're so slow and ponderous, our attacking threat is non-existent and three at the back is horrific. Surely his build up play at Sporting can't have been as slow as this.

 Behave!

6 wins in 8 now

You'll be waiting a very long time if you expect them both to return and stay fit for longer than a month.

Primarily on the team selection. Do you think it was a coincidence that we brought on someone with legs to stretch Leicester, moved Amad to RWB, swapped our wide CBs around to the correct positions and then suddenly the players weren’t meek and cowardly?

Arguably, we had no less than 7 players playing out of their best positions in the first half. The players are always going to play better if the team is set up correctly.

So why is Amorim playing them out of position in the first place? What's the point of that?

I really like Amorim, and think he absolutely needs time, some players and that we have to factor in a mid season mess and so on. But all of these things can be true, as well as starting to worry a little about how little progress we're seeing. this performance is awful, only 30 minutes in but really awful stuff. I dont get the shape, i dont get anything about this. It feels like no matter what we try or who we rotate we end up looking just as terrible. Leicester are a truly average, championship level team and to be honest they look about our level.

After palace and tonight, im having my first genuine concern, that wasnt just rooted in in play emotion. This is just objectively horrific
I think more and more people on here are edging to that conclusion.

He believes that there is some magic fairy dust in 3-4-3 with wing backs and it is all he will play even though he says and we see that he doesn't have the players for this; and someone on here pointed out that he played 5 starters in illogical positions tonight and nobody can say it worked.

No matter whether we win lose or draw it’s always so fecking miserable in here.

For those calling for Amorim’s sacking (after pining for him all season)what do you genuinely think expect to achieve? We’ll be going round in the same roundabout in 12 months time. He genuinely needs time.

I had to put his performance thread on ignore. It doesn’t matter what he does at this point. If only this forum had a scheduled posts functionality, folks can schedule the same comments to be posted after every match, regardless of how the match plays out
Not sure if you’re agreeing with me or not but I thought he did improve second half. He was woeful in the 1st

Christ

He's nowhere near done here and the next few league games are not crucial to if he survives.

I actually think by the end of March, we'll look a lot better.

Who in here is calling for his sacking? Enough with the hyperbole.

 Some level of dillusion , 6 wins out of the last 8 but he’s done.

RW is different to RWB don't you think? I thought Dorgu was playing at RW for Lecce.

Just checking in after being detached for a while. Is doubting Amorim still frowned upon or seen as knee-jerk/childish in here?
It seems to me that the king's new clothes are being called out, and he's actually naked.

I’m sure I’m wrong because he seems a humble kinda bloke.

But I do worry that there is almost a bit of ego in desperately wanting to be seen as being the one to design a new way of playing that goes on to win things at the highest level.

The whole inverted WBs and 10s on the same side…I just can’t get my head around it.

A bit like ETHs kamikaze 41041 in his last 18 months.

Just over complicating things for the sake of it, but if it comes off they are some sort of revolutionary. The kind of thing Pep was often guilty of in the CL before finally winning it again with City.

It’s almost the complete opposite of what Slot has done at Liverpool. Took the best elements of Klopps high octane play, and added a bit of balanced pragmatism with square pegs in square holes. No one is banging on about Liverpools tactics or shape because the way they set up is so obvious and practical.

Why though? We'll only be sat here next season saying he needs to implement his style.

Let me guess, he should've reverted back to 4231/433? Those tactics have got our last 2 managers sacked.

Now is the perfect time to back the manager and him drilling in his system, over the next month we have full weeks of training.
He is experimenting in his own system by playing players out of position.

Good changes at HT, good and deserved win.
6 wins in 8 now.
It's slowly starting to click and it's only going to get better.
Let's go, Ruben! Let's go, United!

We won with an offside goal and made Leicester at times look like prime Barcelona with how easy they were able to evade our press. The performance overall was god awful.

Why wouldn't he know what standard he is expected to deliver?

It's not likely the club hired him and were vague about what they expected.

Because ETH would serve up performances like that claim it was acceptable, because we got the win, so he clearly didn’t know the standard required.

Ole would also serve up shit and claim everything was okay afterwards.

Oh dear, what a mess we’re in. I like Amorim but this is actually worse than ten hag. He’s been given an impossible hand to play but I think both parties will realise that they’re better parting ways soon. I’m pretty sure the board said something along the lines of we’ll decide the style of play and sign managers and players that fit .. I can’t believe that they decided a niche 5 at the back was the way forward . Barely any managers play that way so what’s the plan if it doesn’t work… back to Conte ?! He seems a good guy and would love him to succeed but also, let’s not give 500m to rebuild a squad and it not work again and be left with more misfits that we pay to play for other teams. Accept we might have got it wrong and move on. Sad to say it so early when he’s not been given a chance or backed at all, and ill never be someone that wants him to do badly to ‘prove I was right’ it just looks like a bad fit for both

Fergie would be top 3 with this lot. A midfield of Oshea and Cleverly is not better. RA is not able to talk to his team after a match as he cannot manage his emotions, has to wait for next morning, amateur of a coach he is terrified of playing at old OT. Complete opposite of Fergie who would trash every thing out on the night so that the day after would be a fresh day.
True or false ?

I think he’s a breath of fresh air and am hopeful for the future but………

Why is he over complicating things? Play the new LWB on the left. Stop moving centre backs side to side in the middle of games. Stop playing Dalot, he’s sh1t.
Pick your best 11 in their best position for your system and stick with them. Replace the weakest in the summer, keep the players that have demonstrated they have learned their role. Should be easy really.
