I don't know if he plays up to his image for the cameras or if he just has a primitive view of the game that makes him undervalue his own talent but when he talks, he's like a caricature of himself. He basically said the players needed to get a yellow to "get the crowd going" against City. Nothing about the defending, poor counter-attacking or inability to get possession. Just "smash someone". Pundits in the 90's weren't that thick.
He's entertaining as a pundit but he's talking himself out of a job as manager by exposing how backwards his thinking is. Can you imagine Pep telling De Bruyne to "smash someone"?
It’s ok to critique the mans comments on Sky or wherever but to diminish his abilities as a player makes you sound foolish.

Agree with most of what you say but Richards has improved significantly in recent times. He has cut back the laughing and is far more serious now as well. I remember Carragher saying on Neville's Overlap show that someone had given him a little advice on his punditry about not just being known as 'that guy' and that he took this onboard in order to improve himself. I wonder if maybe the same happened to Micah.

The idea that we've somehow got a bunch of players who don't care while other clubs have all the hard working players is silly. Especially given that all of our players have either been successful elsewhere or have been successful here in the past.

Players shouldn’t need a coach to tell them to do that. Your keanes, scholes, Ronaldos, rooneys, cantonas that have that fiery drive/passion and detest losing just go out and do it because they’re so pissed off at how the game is going. I was yelling at the tv to do the same.

Go in hard on a tackle or show that you have some fight ffs even if you get carded in an already lost game.

It’s about the perception to the team and fans showing that you care as much as we do. Obviously us fans are deluded since for 90% of footballers it’s just a job. But there’s a reason why fans still love, and feel they can relate to, ex-players like cantona, rooney, evra, rafael da silva, Cr7, roy keane. When they’re on the pitch win or lose they play like they love the club as much as we do. I absolutely think our current players are mentally weak and fragile. It’s been a problem for years now.
I’ve lost plenty of casual pickup games at the park. But when you start getting humiliated 5-0 and the opponents do little showboating and tiki-taka, there comes a limit and i get pissed and start kicking out and tackling hard. It’s about personal pride. If anything, it might get a reaction out of the opponents, your own team, and the fans. I’d much rather watch both teams at each other’s faces pushing and shoving than watching our players jog around aimlessly for the last 20 minutes chasing shadows.
Have you ever seen videos of Maradona or Messi getting kicked off the ball by opposition players? It has nothing to do with tactics, its about making it difficult for players that are clearly a lot more capable than you. If its going to be so easy for them to outplay you make them fear your tackles by putting them under pressure. Thats the school of get stuck in. Every manager out there will tell his players to get stuck in and fight for the badge when they're being outplayed, even Guardiola. It's football 101.

I'm fine with committed tackling when there's a point to it but Keane was saying just smash someone. No thought or purpose. It was like he thought injuring someone makes up for a defeat.
No he wasn't, if you're hearing thay and thinking he just run over to someone and tackle them for no reason you're way off. He's talking about getting stuck in with a tackle.
He also got sent off for that. I'd rather our players didn't. You can tackle forcefully without fouling someone.
