Sure, he won't win anything, as won't Ole, but at least the players won't be getting pats on the back and haribos on the coach after losing a game against our local rivals.

If Keane's management style may be considered or anticipated as being somewhat abrasive then we appear to have tried the 'arm round the shoulder' approach under OGS. Results, however, are not what we may have hoped for.

On which basis, what good things about the recent performances of the likes of Maguire, Shaw, Pogba, etc do you feel any current or future manager might focus on? With a view to motivate and inspire so that performances improve and we start winning football matches again?

Give over. They were both great players, not just self confessed hardmen. Management wise they weren't great. But not many are. Yes they are employed by sky to do a job and they do it based off their views and standards.

Would you rather they had more guys like Micah Richards? Who've never won anything and offer nothing more than raucous laughter and a wierdly straight hairline across his forehead.

Despite being surrounded by the best players of his generation, for most of his time at Utd, we were a lesser team when he wasn't playing.

He's not dim, he just has an extremely stubborn view of football. His attitude is the players are responsible for what happens. That attitude was why he was like a manager on the pitch but that attitude is also why he's a bad manager and pundit. His advice is limited to:
  1. Buy better players. If United lose, the players "aren't good enough".
  2. Shout at someone.
  3. Foul someone.
  4. Hit at a teammate. Like "throwing punches" at De Gea.
He ignores tactics, team selection and formations. Its all attitude. As a player, that can be great. As a manager, it's it's disaster.

I agree with this bit. Keane is a rent-a-quote. He's entertaining but doesn't understand modern football or management which is why he's on Sky and not at an actual club.

Sky does this alot. They keep trying to get Carragher and Neville to argue on MNF and try to troll Keane into "HEATED DEBATES" to get clicks. It's boring once you notice it.

Fred is 28 and has played all of his career in midfield. McTomimay is 24 and played as a forward for most of his youth career.. I think that's what Keane was getting at.

Fred played further forward for Shaktar. Never seems to be mentioned, but he was closer to Bruno than Matic when we purchased him. So neither are playing in positions which they are used to playing in. But McTominay is incapable of even showing for the ball properly which is absolutely basic stuff. So he should get much more stick than Fred.

Agreed. More ridiculous is a 'major' European club deciding to trust a central midfield place to a player only learning how to play there...at 25.

He's welcome to go out on loan somewhere to learn how to play in midfield. Given how much our squad cost and our aspirations (ha) it's an absolute joke that we're trying to get him to do it at United.

Agreed. These united old boys pundits wouldn't have the patience to let him learn his trade at this age if he was a foreign player brought in from abroad, it's british academy player bias.

Can I just say vardy was at fleetwood town at 24/5 learning his trade, I’m not saying Scotty could become a midfield version of vardy, I’m just saying you can always learn your trade and improve at any age.
 
There are some clowns who think Keane was just a hard man. It’s utter nonsense but part of the fault for that is how Keane talks about himself and the game. Yesterday it was “when I was playing bad I’d smash someone”. He very rarely had a bad game so why come out with stuff like that?
 
Would love to see Keane come in as an assistant to a top class manager for the rest of the season. These players could do with a kick up the backside for the crap they are producing every week.
The Crystal Palace game would be interesting with Keane and Vieira on the sideline.

I think having a manager with a tactical plan and, most importantly, the communication skills to deliver his tactical plan to the players is the most important thing.

The narrow minded and overly simplistic response to underperforming players is to open a can of whoop-ass, whereas the reason why these players are underperforming is that we lack systems in our play.
 
Keane is just as clueless as Ole when it comes to management in the modern game. In his interview with Neville recently all he had to say about being successful in management was getting 'a good group of lads' together. He thinks it's still the 90s same as Ole.

People on here dissing G Nev & Keane for not calling out Ole should see the pundits on MUTV, I ain't watched MUTV for a while (since they stopped having viewers phone-ins) but back when Mourinho, LVG & Moyes were dishing up rubbish, they'd say things like "bad day at the office, I'm sure they'll do better next game", or UTD player off-side by 4 yards (before VAR), "he was a bit unlucky with that off-side on another day the linesman might have not put his flag up" etc...
 
He pretty much said it without saying it. I wouldn’t throw my mate under the bus, but “better off out of it” is as clear as day.
