Round of 16 | France vs Belgium | Portugal vs Slovenia

A good goalkeeping performance in a penalty shootout was all it took for Onana to get a mention and the moans to come out.

You lot are fecking weird

Agreed. As much as I like a good underdog story, I like it even more when the big teams play each other.
And let's be honest, Slovenia didn't even try to attack. They came for penalties and that's the last thing you want in a big QF. That being said, both France and Portugal are awful as well.

Portugal are gonna get thrashed by France. They have 30 more minutes of football in the legs, the Ronaldo handicap, a defensive liablity in Cancelo, and in general are made to order for them.
Doubt that. France won't win by more than a goal if they win at all.

I like Portugal but it annoys me too much how everything is about Ronaldo, the camera is on him all the time which is why I've disliked watching them for a while. Shame the GK won't get the headlines, it'd be Ronaldo's tears on the newspapers.
I get that but he’s one of the best players to ever play the game, he’s bound to have attention and focus on him

And you'd think they'd at least take one decent.

Knew they would lose after Sesko missed that chance, just wasn’t written for them. That was the chance to win it.
Slovakia and Slovenia very unlucky to go out, France look just...meh, Portugal uninspiring, the two best teams (Germany and Spain) are meeting each other in the quarter final

...could be the year for an underdog to get to the final. Switzerland or Austria or someone like that.

Diogo Costa will get the credit for the saves but personally I though the Slovenian penalties were really poor, did Slovenia even practice penalties in training?

On a side note, I’ve been so unimpressed with France so that tie really could go any way

Agreed. France will win something like 1-0 or 2-1. This game could go to ET.

Portugal matches well with France. Anything can happen.

Cool pen by Bruno as well.

Hopefully they can produce a good match with France

In the past 4 games involving France and Portugal combined, they scored zero goals from open play that is not OG.

I expect a good game though.

None of the Slovenia takers tried to see where the keeper would dive. Bruno's penalty was the best, just had a quick look where Oblak's leaning and simply passed it in.
Also gave him the eyes. Was very close to a no look pen.

Incredible from Ronaldo to have the testicular fortitude to take the second penalty and slot it. Portugal carried again

It's more a criticism of onana than anything. I wouldn't take him again on a free based in last year. Hopefully he can turn it around

Fairs, he had some diabolical moments, but some good ones too. I'll hope for more of the latter next season, which I think we will see with a more stable defence and midfield in front of him. There'll still be the occasional howler though, I think he just has that in him

Today's football was utter shite, 3 penalty saves will be big the talking point. But both games today were utter shite.

For me it's been a poor tournament for the most part. A few decent games, but overall most of the games I've seen have been poor.

Ronaldo not happy still cause he wasnt the one who decided the game..

Also Orsato giving a dubious penalty certainly rings a bell.

Well done Slovenia!
