What he does is pick up space in the most cowardly possible fashion.

Great midfielders pick up space in the most dangerous of areas, they find little pockets and hurt the opposition.

Rooney's idea of picking up space is literally finding empty areas of the pitch so he can get on the ball with no pressure. That position could be left back, right wing, between the centre backs or deep in midfield when everyone else is pushed forward. He melts if he's pressed and gives the ball away so spends the entire game trying to find somewhere get can get the ball with acres of space and time.

This was previously known as 'the Tom Cleverley'

This was previously known as 'the Tom Cleverley'

In defence of Cleverley, he did this while playing to a certain acceptable standard. He wasn't miscuing shots, or passing into touch while under zero pressure or miscontrolling the ball and bringing it beyond the touchline.

He also wasn't supposed to be the creative outlet of the team.

No it's not. He'd be an average player in the championship.
That's not even an exaggeration. He isn't fit enough for the premier league and his touch and overall technique isn't anywhere close to the level required. Genuinely believe that he wouldn't stand out at the relegation fodder in the premier league these days. Sure he would have decent games now and then, but he would still mostly look shit.

Other fans watching him playing for us must feel like we felt watching Stevie Me in his last season. Holding us back and they're loving it.

He's not good enough, but unfortunately neither are the majority of his teammates. We were appalling without him midweek as we were with him today.

I said it at the beginning of the season Rooney has cost 3 managers their job because they blindly placed faith in him. It's going to happen to Jose as well. Rooney should have been binned off well before a certain German international.
Rooney has gone lost it completely.

All 25 should be required to write an essay as to how and why he's not finished in the face of indisputable evidence to the contrary. His own personal performances, his wages, his effect on the team both because of his performances and because of the way we have to set up to shoehorn him into the team, who misses out because he plays and the effect it has on them, his effect on the fans, his effect on the media. Feel free to use the statistics that he's still contributing because they're quite clearly not good enough for someone earning his wage and commanding his status in the team. Also players of comparable stature, position and wage included too.

He's irrefutably bad in pretty much every sense.

I hope someone shows this to Jose. I will refuse to believe Jose has any brains if Rooney starts the next game. He has the worst touch for any professional footballer i have ever seen.

God awful footballer. Please please please someone drop him from the team.

No longer cuts it at the required level. Sir Alex could see it coming. Pity he wasn't around to pull the trigger.

More like playing 10 vs 12

This is true. Breaks up our play so well. Could have won MOTM for the opposition in his last few games.

He's like an old family dog. Used to play fetch with such energy and speed, now all he can do is walk around at a snail's pace and shit himself. If he were my dog I'd be phoning the vet tomorrow and asking him to get the old injection ready.

He's shit. Shame Mourinho is another one who drops his balls at the mention of his name. I'd put Mkhitarian or Mata in the despite the former's poor showing last week and stick with them.

It's worth remembering at this point, how far the issue goes back. Alex Ferguson was willing to sell Rooney in his last season, and signalled his intentions in his last meaningful game by dropping the captain for the Champions League last-16 second leg against Real Madrid. Rooney did come on as a sub in that match but, rather than United hauling back a 3-2 aggregate deficit, it only led to recriminations. After the game, one of United's coaching staff was heard to roar: "Wayne, you gave away the ball four fecking times in 10 minutes!"

It's still an issue. It still happens on many occasions when Rooney tries to do something other than play one of those easy balls out to the wing. It still just doesn't look like it will click.

WR is finished... has been finished for a few years now

What I cannot understand is why Jose cannot see what everyone bar a few lunatics can see. Rooney is finished.

I do not understand how anyone can defend him.
I wouldn't mind if he was out of form. But the biggest issue is we cannot form a team whilst he is in the 1st 11. He destroys us playing 433. We fit him and that weakens us totally.

This is a team sport. Rooney and a few other players should realise this.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. 300k/week :wenger:

that clip doesn't even include about 3/4 more corners and freekicks that we underhit or overhit

it's a disgrace he still automatically has a place in the team....time to grow a set of balls Jose - he should be behind Pogba/Mata/Herrera at the very least for that attacking midfield role

no quality.....not even any of the old aggression or competitivity or fight any more - just strolls around looking the ball to feet

The thing with rooney is that most of the time after a shit game you could say maybe he wasn't the worst player on the pitch and we shouldn't single him out etc. But the honest truth is, we knew how good he could play, and he he hasn't played like rooney the top player in years, he's simply an average player now capable of a decent game here and there.

For this team to progress, we need to move on, even if he's clearly not the only problem we have.

This is something I was going to point out. Pretty much every game for the last 2 and a bit seasons we've had people single Rooney out for being shit. And every time people have jumped in with "well x was worse." Well, yeah, they might have been in that game, but Rooney has consistently been amongst the two or three worst performers each week for a long time now.

To add to the 26 who voted no 2% of people voted as him as MOTM for this game :wenger:

Do you remember when Sourness signed George Weahs cousin and played him in the first team whilst at Southampton. He was better than Rooney.

Thank you! I've seen people on here, and even heard friends of mine use the Feyenoord performance as an excuse to argue that Rooney is not a problem at all. One game! Where, what, 8 new players were starting for the first time this season? Even Mourinho said as much.

Mourinho is playing with cowardly tactics, and players aren't performing, but Rooney is supposed to be a leader and a star player. He's never been a leader, and it's been a few years since he had any star quality.

I would argue that Mourinho chose the wrong player to make an example of, sure, I really don't care about Schweinsteiger's status, as he's never delivered the goods for United, but Rooney should have been the player he got rid of, by any means necessary. Look at Pep, he's always had a knack for getting rid of players with power/status who aren't performing up to the standards required. Ronaldinho and Hart comes to mind. Like SAF he manages to build something "new" and make everybody pull in the same direction. Rooney is our handbrake, and it's ruined, so we have to drive the car with the handbrakes down all the time. Surprised we're falling behind?

How are the other players not seeing this? How does Herrera, Schneiderlin and Mata really feel? One bad half of a game and they're out, while our captain plays like shit game after game after game after game after....

Rant well and truly over. "Drops the mic on the way out"
Drops the mic

Can't disagree with any of that.

If this fat useless scouse twat becomes our record goalscorer then there is no sporting justice in the world.

Also known as hiding.

What is frustrating is, he attempts to use every single corner, freekick etc. Can't he see that every ball he crosses is miles away from the target?

We had 3 different managers ever since SAF retired and none had the guts to cut him. Rvp was done too and LvG did not hesitate a single second to offload him. Why it keeps happening with Rooney? When was the last time he was not a liability?

Even playing with 10 men is better than playing with Rooney. Because with 10 men you organize in a certain way to cope with the lack of a man. With Rooney, we completely lose the organization.

Sir Alex was right. He was done years ago. As much as I appreciate his services to this club, I just can't stand him anymore.

Some of the posts in this thread.

fecking hell.

He's one of many players we have who are under performing. To single him out this much is just mind boggling.

I'd like someone in the press to start calling out United's board on the Rooney issue. Someone to start asking questions as to why every manager is playing him to the detriment of the team and by extension, their jobs. Something is not right about this. Time the board got some pressure on this instead of always hiding behind the managers.

I'm loving the feeling of solidarity here. Rooney has never before brought so many people together. Lets get this train rolling once and for all. Only three years too late, but better late than never.

"FINISH HIM"
I think we should find the real life versions of the entire set of characters from Mortal Kombat and have each of them perform their finishing moves one by one to a dazed and swaying Rooney who has to be put back together and re-animated after each kill.

Lol, voted no as I know differences between being 'finished' with not belong in the 1st eleven. At least that's how I understand it.

Singling him for our defeat today is ok, I thought he was the worse player in the second half in the team. But to say he is finished is totally over the top.

I'm sure if the same poll is being posted before the game, the result is still the same btw. And what happened to respecting others' opinion/vote?
