Rooney Charged: Faces Two Match Ban for cursing | Appeal lost

Reds dismayed by Rooney verdict

Manchester United issued the following statement on Thursday morning in response to the decision to uphold Wayne Rooney's two-match suspension.

"Manchester United is clearly very disappointed with the Regulatory Commission's decision.

"The Club put forward a very strong case to have the punishment reduced, which was unsuccessful.

"Wayne Rooney apologised immediately after the match and the Club now wishes to move to on to what hopefully will be a very exciting conclusion to the season."

Bah. Wish it was more brutal.

Given that we had the same commitments last season and looking at the side SAF sent out for the FA cup semi final, Im not sure Rooney would have played anyway. Maybe he does not need it, but given that he has played flat out since his return, perhaps a short rest will help him for the run in. A real shame for us as he is just approaching his top form.

you do make a very good point there , of the 2 games he will miss it is possible he would not of played in the Fulham game and even v City in the semi may have only been on the bench.
But this is all water under the bridge now , we just need to get over it and show the FA we are better than the crap there are throwing at us.
Beat Fulham beat City and stick a massive 2 finger up at the FA.

stephdoehler Rooney banned for "using offensive language," not for doing it to a camera. The floodgates will surely now open.

Ridiculous.

I heard plenty of swearing from the fans that was broadcast yesterday loud and clear, including Viva john terry, who the feck are man united, 'shit' in response to united chants....are all the fans now banned?

Funny how Sky's Bryan Swanson's exclusive phone chat with Rooney is word for word the same as a statement issued.

 got to love those Sky Sources

FA Chairman Berstein must be delighted that Rooney will miss the match vs his beloved Citeh....

The point is the FA don't care that everyone knows they've plucked this out of their arse and probably won't ever give another such ban. They're not accountable which means the worst they have to face are headlines from the media who created this shitstorm in the first place.

This is interesting...

So, Who’s The Chairman Of The FA?

...........David Bernstein.

The former Manchester City board member and chairman was appointed the chairman of the FA at the start of the year. When leaving City he said: “I would like to thank our wonderful fans for their backing. They have been fantastic in their support, which has never wavered even during the most difficult times. I have been touched by their kindness and enthusiasm. I have supported Manchester City since I was a boy and I am desperate for us to succeed.”

We’ve seen just how desperate he is for that today, ensuring that Rooney is banned for the FA Cup semi-final, City’s final hope of silverware this season in their 35th year since they last won a trophy.

And you couldn’t make this up. The man who is so offended by Rooney’s swearing that he felt a two match ban was an appropriate punishment, worked for French Connection before joining City’s board and was behind their controversial range of t-shirts which included: “fcuk this”, “hot as fcuk”, “mile high fcuk”, “fcuk me”, “fcuk her”, “too busy to fcuk”, “fcuk football”, “fcuk fashion”, “fcuk fear” and “fcuk on the beach”.

Moments later, Wayne issued his personal reaction to the decision and declared his dismay at having to miss two domestic games.

"I am gutted to miss two matches, one of which is an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won’t be the last.

"Unlike others who have been caught swearing on camera, I apologised immediately. And yet I am the only person banned for swearing. That doesn’t seem right.

"Whatever, I have to accept that what’s happened has happened and move on from here. That’s what I intend to do.”

Well at least they haven't included another match. Lets move on and shift our focus to the game against Fulham first.

Do we really think that David Bernstein has anything to do with Rooney being banned ?

No, it is purely coincidence that as we prepare for the biggest match in City's history our manager and best player are banned for it.

Everybody had better be on best behaviour on Saturday... Bernstein will be, in his own words, "desperate" to add a 3rd given a sniff of a chance.

Do you think it's appropriate for somebody to take over as chairman of the FA and announce the start of their reign with the words "I have supported Manchester City since I was a boy and I am desperate for us to succeed."?

Do we really think that David Bernstein has anything to do with Rooney being banned ?
It just daft

Whether or not he did, the point is that the system is simply not transparent and encourages suggestions of corruption. The fact remains this is an unprecedented charge and the main beneficiary will be City. And the Chairman of the FA is a City fan.

The system is quite obviously corrupt and I mean that in the literal sense.

Not really.

However when nobody knows who sits on these disciplinary panels they're always going to leave themselves open to these conspiracy theories.
we actually don't know this? Surely you can't have someone like Bernstein on this panel when you have connections to certain club in benefit regardless of him doing anything in this particular case.

Is this a new rule they are going to try and shoehorn in on the back Rooney, any player heard swearing is banned for 2 games? How about you start with John Terry last night, I couldn't sleep thinking of those brutal filthy words he used against the linesman last night.

so swearing at the camera is more brutal and violent than swearing at the ref or linesman unbelievable.... this is a new low for the FA....

Have we got anything official as to why exactly he was banned? Was it swearing into the camera or was it just swearing in general?

Wasn't the cameraman not supposed to be on the pitch anyway? Should start handing down lawsuits to the media to shut them up and the FA.

At least Fergie will be in good company watching the games from the stands. Maybe Wayne can learn a thing or two from Fergie about tactics etc by talking to him :D

The cameraman shoving the camera in his face is something to be expected. Two wrongs don't make a right.
