I'd have to disagree. Our most successful season was the 2007-8 double where he played up top.

When we played Ronaldo up top and Rooney out left we were relatively poor on offense, I thought it was a mistake.

The front three of Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo kept rotating in games. Rooney played a lot on the left that same season.

Well, that's *very* different than playing on the left, being part of a shifting pair or triad. He certainly is fine when he drifts to the left at times. When he's been *just* on the left, he doesn't have the speed or dribbling to beat a FB down the side. When they know you're not going that way it's game over.
