Rooney being shunted to the left wing..

didn't think much of it at the time, but anything in the cameraman focusing on Rooney bickering to Carrick walking off at the end? Stayed on him for a good 10 seconds with his face like a slapped arse. might be looking for a story, like when they used to find Fergie in the stand under Moyes

Might be a part time solution just to give someone else a go in the central area - doubt Van Gaal will drop him, Memphis needs a rest anyway

Please dear god can you arrange for Rooney to be on the bench for a few weeks at least, its time to let the kids loose, Martial and Memphis.

It's a start, but he needed to be shunted 10 yards further to the left, where Schneiderlin and co were sitting.

I always thought he could be like Ribery on the left wing but he's nowhere near that standard.
Even with the addition of "nowhere near that standard" that is one of the strangest comparisons I've read on the caf:lol:

Never been on Rooney's back even with his poor form, but enough is enough. The reason why he gets shunted from his position is that he seriously has not been good enough. Yea he runs around a lot, but that is about all he does now. Most of the time, the attack is breaking down because of him, or he is constantly passing backwards. Either play Herrera or give a chance to Periera. Even better, play both Martial and Wilson together.

In the post match presser, when asked about Rooney's performance, he stated that his captaincy was far more important in value to the team than his performance (good or bad) in today's match. Pretty much confirms to me that Rooney does seem untouchable.
More like LvG needs someone to back him up. As long as Giggs and Rooney happy, his job is pretty much secured.

Would love to see us play a 4-3-3 with Schneiderlin holding and Herrera/Schweinsteiger ahead of him. Rooney can do one.

This is what happened to Rivaldo and he won the Ballon D'or. Go on Wazz!!

Rooney has never been in the same bracket as Rivaldo, and this is not about to happen.

Rooney is in the same situation as Van Bommel was in his last few miles for Bayern, and Van Gaal made the right call by letting that fellow Dutchman go rather than let Van Bommel screw everything up in the team for the longer term.

fecking hell :lol::lol:

We're truly stuck with the sack of shite aren't we?

Definitely would rather see Pereira given a chance. He is completely finished as a footballer at the top level, I would probably take any of the attackers in the top half of the table over him

So we're only in October and he's played 3 different positions. Is he angry and confused yet?

I hope in vain that he'll prove me wrong, that he isn't finished as a top level footballer, but week in, week out he provides painful evidence to the contrary. With his wages, his status as captain, and his wages making a transfer unlikely, this is a movie that we have to endure, like it or not.

Perhaps not if Van Gaal pisses off Rooney long and hard enough with 8 months before the Euros by scratching him out of the team and denying those playing minutes. I remember when people said we should use that threat on DDG when the Real Madrid circus was lurking around, so I think it's appropriate to use the same approach on Rooney.

For the record, Mark van Bommel terminated his own contract and left to Milan on a free when Van Gaal rightfully decided that he was no longer good enough to be a part of the playing squad. It's time to use that same old recipe once again.

Midfield - doesn't work
Striker - Meh
Number 10 - Horrible
Wings - Meh

What's next? Defense, and then GK. We are not very far, gents, the bench is nigh.

For that to happen, Van Gaal first, has to recognise what is painfully obvious to so many. I don't want to lay the blame on Rooney for today's defeat, I just want his place in the team to be merited- at the moment it isn't. He continues to select him and you have to question why that is the case. He referred to the importance of Rooney as captain. I don't think he has the balls to remove the captaincy from him and dropping the captain is a big call. He needs to make a decision.

Then one would wonder how and why he had the balls to take that decision against a fellow Dutchman and a fan favorite in Bavaria, but wouldn't do it to someone who is quite making the job a lot easier to everyone by falling out of favour in many people's estimations, especially Mancunians.

He probably will make the decision. I hope it isn't won't prove too late. This situation requires some careful handling, and will test LvG. Giggs can help him make the right decision.

I think people are looking into this way too much. The probable reason he was put there was because LVG went all out attack, and wanted the Fellaini option on the pitch as well as having as many attacking players as possible in attacking positions. I don't think we will be seeing him starting in that position any time soon.
This. I am quite surprised that so few are seeing it the way it actually happened.

It wasn't Rooney is so poor, he should move to the left wing. It's more like Rooney is so versatile, only he can move to the left wing to accommodate Fellaini centrally.

The musical positions game to avoid benching him is ridiculous and having him on one wing and Mata on the other would mean we have no pace on either flank.

What does that even mean? What is it that he provided as captain that could not have been provided by BFS or even Smalling? We were 3-0 down in 20 mins and LVG hails Rooney's captaincy!

I was about to make a thread at half time along the lines of needing a Keane on the pitch. Not only a great player but a captain worth his salt. Someone who can rally the troops not just by asking them to do things but by leading by example with his performance. Rooney cannot provide that.

I am starting to wonder if he has some sort of clause in his contract that he plays as long as he is fit. I cannot fathom any other reason for him to play every game despite the performances he has put out.

Van Gaal has every right to say "feck the contract" and do what's best for the team, including benching Rooney and anyone else who is out of form. And seriously though, how many people inside the club would unconditionally take Rooney's side after everything people have seen of him since last season?

Then what other reason could be there to keep playing him every game that he is fit? I cannot believe for one moment that LVG thinks Rooney is such a fkng good captain that he cannot be dropped because of that. Van Bommel was shipped out for less at Bayern by the same LVG.

The only thing I can think of is intangibles like fighting spirit/leadership/work rate etc etc. The other thing is he might be seeing it as a temporary loss of form and so trying to play him into form.

I don't know LVG's thinking to be honest. If every horribly out of form player just keep getting played no matter the circumstances, then it sets a horrible example to those waiting in the wings to get and grab an opportunity.

The thing with LVG is that at the moment he is heading the way Rodgers is... Brenda took way too much shit from Gerrard and Sterling before trying to redeem things but it was clear he was too meek to make the harsh decisions needed.

Lvg has been spineless thus far, he's got rid of the easy targets..now he needs to really take those balls out.
Dropping his favourite in RVP? ADM who was our club record signing? DDG regardless of the risk to weakening our defense? Even SAF had a real headache dealing with Rooney and that's a man who showed Ince, Keane and Stam out the door. If anything he's quite the opposite, takes a lot of spine to play with 10men almost every game.

Agree it needs careful handling. He needs the board to help him. Giggs won't because he's friendly with Wayne and won't want to upset his friend and business partner GNev by helping to boot Rooney. It's a conflict of interest with Giggs so that can't help the situation. Ed Woodward is the only one that LVG could/should trust as everyone else seems to have their own agenda imo.
