If he is so pro and all, then he should cancel the contract with us and find himself whichever team he fancy.

I'd keep him around as a whipping boy.

"Ronaldo, go run. Don't want to? Okay you're suspended for a week and fined wages, get out of here. Anyone else?"

This is your “United Legend”?

In the words of Krishnan - “what a cnut”.

Hopefully we don’t see him in our kit anymore and hope some people stop defending him. He’s 37, and he’s acting like a teenager.

Sick of the circus now. Pundits still referring to him as world class. Has two goals this season and one of them is a penalty in Moldova. The two games where we have played our best he didn’t start. Treat the club in that way and he shouldn’t expect any support from the club or fans.

Don't see how that's possible

It's not, if they do, they would have to pay him the rest of his remaining salaries. Actually, the club could consider it since no decent club is going to pay more than a couple of millions for him if he's on loan so they could decide "feck it, lets end this end free him, at least we won't have to deal with him anymore".

Legend huh ? Said it a million fvcking times that he’s never been a UTD legend and anyone who says otherwise is a disgrace..

Don't see how that's possible
They’d probably have to pay him off with an amount that’s satisfactory to both parties.

Or Utd might just decide it’s better to write off his remaining 6 months of his contract and have him out the door than stink the place up.

I’m guessing they’ll try to get rid of him first in January, but if there’s no takers by the end of the window then terminating his contract is a viable option as I only see him bringing harm to the squad spirit going forward. Has no value to us now.

No thanks. Fine him and let him rot in the reserves. It's giving him what he wants
If he agrees to terminate his contract, its worth it.. keeping him to prove a point is an expensive deal for us..
He isnt going to improve any top team at this point.. he can feck off to some club a few levels down (or some place where the owner is obsessed with the idea of a high profile signing)

Paying him off and letting him go.. nope. he can swap places with Huddlestone..

Hopefully the United mouthpieces I.e his mates, don't back him here. But who am I kidding?

You don't refuse to come on and go off on a strop. Doesn't matter who you are.

The ironic thing being that all his ex team mates in the media wouldn't tolerate it either.

I’ve heard “disrespecting Ronaldo” mentioned , before yesterday , by some people. If it is disrespect, then the easy counter to that is would they rather ETH disrespect the club by playing a player who isn’t suited to his system and hinders results/performances and team moral.

After yesterday and especially the news today don’t think he’ll have any backers. Doubt his ex team mates will publicly call his behaviour for what it is, most will probably just say It’s the end without attacking him.

He costs us 500k a week and nobody is coming close to that and paying a transfer fee.
Yeah and that's exactly the reason why it's not possible. He'll never agree to terminate his contract, we won't pay him out and no other club will take him with his wages, transfer fee or not

Unless he waves off his salary, we should not do it.
If we don’t do it, we still have to pay him that same amount but at the same time have him around the squad causing more harm than good. Sometimes you have to cut your losses for the greater good.

Big financial hit, but would be a great marker for how much they are backing ETH.
Like I mentioned above, we are taking that financial hit no matter what unless someone is willing to buy him. I’d rather we take the hit without him around than have him in the squad.

I think a deal will be done, it suits nobody for him to stay.

The issue is that it actually sends a signal that you don't want. Basically if a player misbehave enough, he can leave for free while getting paid by the club.

Right now there’s no benefit to Utd or Ronaldo by him staying. I’ll be surprised if he’s still a Utd player by the end of the January window. Either sold or released.

That's a good point. Having him exiled from the first team would be a stronger signal and also encourage him to find an amicable solution

Let's all take a deep breath.

Ronaldo crossed a line. No two ways around that. But let's not act like he is the first United player to do so, here is one club legend who also crossed a line...

Scholes

Now, if Ronaldo wants back he needs to beg forgiveness. If not then we need to move on.

We were too dynamic last night and if a 37 year old Ronaldo can't see that I am sorry for him. Amazing player but not without flaws and as any long time fan knows time waits for no man... or player.
From your link: "The manager would have been within his rights to get rid of me."
Ronaldo is old enough to know the consequences.

he probably didn't want to take his earring out, so that's why he huffed and refused to come on

In theory it's less than a month before he is away until January now anyway, if they release him for free they will only be doing it earlier than it is already planned surely.

To make him warm up and then take him out to play for a couple of minutes, with the game decided, is very humiliating for one of the best players in history.
It would be better if he had left him out for the whole game.
As bad as he is now, I think the coach should manage these situations better, although obviously I don't justify Cristiano.

It is extremely sad how narcissistic and selfish this guy is. Could have been a leader and a mentor but instead choose to act like a brat. Disgusting. This will cost him eventually in one way or another. It will certainly take him down as a legend of the club.
One day we might have a 10-15-20 year celebration of something and he will not be invited. That will be a big FU to him and that will sting.

I'm actually thinking now in retrospect, if it was better for the team if the club's management bit the bullet and agreed to subsidize his wages and loaned him out in the summer, I'm not saying the club was wrong in not accepting such a deal at the time, but in retrospect it might have been the better option for Ten Hag and the team.

Totally agree and do not expect Ronaldo to see his error.

I am just making the point other United legends have done some not awesome things as well.

Yup. It's one of these cases where the club can justify a sanction that involves removing him from the professional group. In some cases where the player wants to leave and is maybe in a bad mood while being professional, you can't exclude them without taking legal risks. But Ronaldo acted poorly publicly.

With everything thats happened prior to that… I think the manager has accommodated him far enough if I’m honest.

This can only end one way, contract cancelled with immediate effect. We had nothing but a circus with Pogba now Ronaldo. Last night showed we are heading in the direction and also left all concerned who is in charge.
