Ronaldo leaving was the catalyst

We dropped points in every other game, if not nearly all league games he started. We might have been even higher. To think he left a team currently 3rd to go play in Saudi arabia. Ronaldo screwed up and that's our good fortune

Discrediting Ten Hag and a lot of our players by trying to say this is all to do with Ronaldo. We've looked consistently good and like a team since the first city game and even in the few games before it, and that was with Ronaldo.

The catalyst is having a manager who knows what he's doing and signing players who work hard and have actually hugely improved the team

Its a shame Ronaldos massive ego blinded him to the possibilities of what was ahead. If he had been a team player he would most likely find himself in the Champions League next season, instead he is in the footballing equivalent of nowhere

It started before him I'd even say. The team understanding the kinda manager ETH is the big difference. Everyone can get a chance to play. AWB who was dead and buried, who saw Lindelof play ahead of him, now is playing significant minutes (helped by Dalot injuries for sure). Slowly and steadily ETH has made this team his own team. Make no mistake, this is mainly about ETH

Imagine we win the league and a couple of trophies now and Ronaldo has to watch on from wherever the feck he is?

I think he'd get the title aswell. I'm sure he's going to claim it's because of him, which it sort of is - if it had happened.

If he was playing Bruno willl always pass to him. Thats enough to make us lose

The Ronaldo move was the feathered cap on the dumb transfers Utd have made in the last 10 years. Should never have come back, all that occurred was predictable.

Ronaldo joining was also the catalyst to our decline. One of the worst signings in the history of the club.

It has brought about a unity and togetherness in the team. Players all fighting for each other, no selfishness. The cohesion is there for all to see and the toxicity and egotistical selfishness that he stained the club with has gone.

Credit to ETH for dealing with this absolutely impeccably.

Love it!

Thank you Piers Morgan
!

If on the slight hope that we overtake Arsenal by the end of the season, it may possibly be up there as one of the funniest moments in recent times.

It was great for all who care about United, but I wouldn't call it a "catalyst". That doesn't seem like the most appropriate term.

Everyone knew he was a cnut but we've been playing well for a while now. Ronaldo was an unnecessary distraction and a detriment to the team when he stepped on the pitch though.

Genuinely does seem to be that way.

Reminds me of school a bit. We chose hockey for PE and the star player was seen as the best so everyone passed to her and sometimes she scored.

She was as off for a few weeks with illness or something and we played ten times better as a team without her there. Players who would never shoot (including me) would do so and score and we were so much better overall.
When she returned everyone returned to trying to make her score.

Okay high school hockey isn't premier League football but it's the same principle surely

Without doubt.
Anyone watched United knew we did worse with Ronaldo in the team

I’m actually awaiting his worshippers to come out with some tripe about him sacrificing himself for the good of United. They’re a special breed.

Exactly! I've been thinking this for ages but I didnt even want to bring up Ronaldo again

It is indeed

Getting rid of him has certainly helped though i can't shake the feeling that it absolves some people of their part in what was a horrific season last year.

He's the past, let's focus on the future. EtH has transformed this club.

Think that’s a big part of the problem. The team has to be tailored to a guy who’s 37 in Feb. He’s one of the greatest players of all time, but what’s it building towards? He’ll be there for a season, maybe 2. He’s Ronaldo so he’s going to want to start every game, and it’ll be a bit of a nightmare to drop him. I know others think differently, but when I watch United I definitely think he has an overall adverse affect on the side and most of those around him, sure he’ll end up with a decent goal record, but is the intention to beef up Ronaldo’s stats or get a fully functioning side that can challenge.

I totally understand why United went for him. Even as a neutral I was super excited to see him back.

I said that back in December '21, and I think a lot of people felt the same way but there was a lot of pushback towards that kind of thinking. He actually went on a great run after that post iirc, but I'm not surprised to see the team doing well without him (obviously one factor of many)

I think your manager deserves a lot of credit for how he handled the entire situation. Could have been a massive headache but he dealt with it masterfully. Really clever off the pitch management.

Bruno alluded to team togetherness, working hard and being a unit now versus “previous periods” where it was sometimes more about individuals.

Not sure if he’s referring to the previous managers or maybe even hinting at Ronaldo’s influence but either way, amazing!

Also I wouldn’t say getting rid of Ronaldo was a catalyst….signing EtH was the catalyst. The guy hasn’t set a foot wrong yet.
There was always talk about how we had a likeable team finally and everyone was playing for each other even if we were not at an elite level the season before Ronaldo joined. If you consider the fact that our most important player in Bruno all the sudden is taken down a peg by a player because of his status rather than current football ability, that has a massive impact on team morale and cohesion. The attitude goes from what do I do that is best for the team to what do I do to keep Ronaldo happy. Everyone so blatantly deferred to him because of his status, and he didn't have the football ability to back that up anymore.

Everyone who has played knows what it is like to have one player who is the focus of the team. When they are good, things are fine, but if they have a bad game or especially a bad attitude, it impacts everyone. If Rashford or Fred has a bad game, other players can get on their back and push them on. No one had the status to tell Ronaldo what to do so there is just an awkward cloud hanging over everything when things don't go his way even when it was for the better of the team.

I'm not convinced. It surely helps but to say it's a catalyst places less importance on what ETH was doing from the moment we lost the opening fixtures.

I think we have had steady improvement even when Ronaldo was here. I wouldn't give the manchild that much significance in the whole thing compared to the manager's tactics, discipline, culture. Ronaldo is really just one solitary piece of sorting that culture.

If we didn’t sign Ronaldo, Ole would still be here.

The Liverpool match was the beginning. Players who didn't work hard for the team got dropped. A few players were fortunate to retain their place in the team after the Brentford defeat but still the message was clear. We played like a team during the Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester, Arsenal run of games, though Ronaldo made some selfish choices when he came on as a sub.

Since then, the PL games we haven't won have typically been either Ronaldo starting (Newcastle home), or unwise team selections (Man City away), or both (Villa away). Chelsea away being the exception.

No. ETH joining was. Stop making things about Ronaldo. His second stint here was a fart in the wind.

Ronaldo arriving catalyzed Ole getting sacked and that is the only good thing he brought to United. Everything else was literary toxic. A lot of people misuse the word and call their dad "toxic" when dad makes them wash dishes. Nah, this guy was legit level 10 out of 10 toxicity.

Didn't we come in 2nd in the league before CR7 came?
