Ronaldo (37) Slaps Phone Out of Child’s (14) Hand | Charged after 5 months of deliberation

To be fair his leg was a little fecked up. Not exactly on his death bed or bad enough to justify his behaviour but he'd definately caught a few studs.

Damn. Just looking at that hurts!
I can well understand why he was walking funny. His tibia must've taken a good kicking during the match, too (which doesn't show up as blood, but hurts like hell).

Not that it makes it better, but it wasn't just random frustration either, he thought the kid was trying to film his bloody leg.
In a stadium full of cameras, he was bothered by someone apparently filming the bloody leg that he was desperately showing everyone in an effort to elicit sympathy? He’s a complex guy clearly.

At 14 I would have been honored if the GOAT and united legend would have smashed my phone and would have considered it an honor I got to touch the avtar of football divinity.

It's true!
I probably wouldn't wash my hands for several days and that phone would be the pride of place on my mantelpiece.

Personally I think it's much worse if he was walking along normally and then suddenly lashed out in anger. And I'd say the same for anyone, even Gerrard, if he was genuinely injured and someone tried to get in for a closer shot, I'd understand if he reacted.

A funny line, particularly given the majority of defences of the (much older than I am) Ronaldo are the boomer “back when I wer a lad we had that at school, kids these days are too soft!” whereas everyone my age is pretty much just saying Ronaldo proved again that he’s just a prick
It's because you see the world in black and white like your judge dredd

If I was the parents I'd absolutely be milking it for all it's worth. Because why wouldn't you want to inconvenience Ronaldo in any legal, financial or professional way that easily available to you. He's the cnut who smacked your autistic kid's phone out of his hand for no good reason, feck him. Whatever the limited consequences you can push for him to face, push for.
I agree, if i was the parent I would be milking it and would try to get a right few quid out of him but what I dont understand is why all the Utd fans on here want the same. We really hate our players and love giving them stick. Other teams just seem that bit more loyal on the non football stuff. Maybe we just have fans of the highest moral fibre who have never done anything wrong in their lives.

The point is relevant as it highlights how irrelevant it is that he's supposedly autistic. Why would that change what Ronaldo did? Ronaldo was a petulant moron the second he decided to slap the phone, it doesn't change no matter who was holding the phone.
I agree that the whole autistic thing is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, which is why I found it weird to even get into the question of, 'just how autistic is he'? I agree with you that the main issue is a grown man slapping a kid on the hand because he got a boo-boo on his leg and is frustrated.

And??
(1) His legs are on show for 90 mins so what?
(2) How do you know he was filming his leg? Could of been his shoes, does it really matter?

One thing that seems to be overlooked is that Everton have had a protester get into the pitch in recent weeks and now this incident. Those fans were far too close to the players and it’s fortunate that a fan didn’t assault a player.

Ronaldo obviously is an idiot but he also has a right not to get a phone shoved in his face or abuse from close enough that you could be touched or attacked yourself. Lucky it was a kid and not a disgruntled united fan who threw a punch!

Not sure if you've the other angle but the kid was in no way doing anything what you've mentioned. It was literally Ronaldo getting angry and smashing the first thing he saw in his path.

I am not even going to get into how disgusting the actual behaviour was as there is clearly a fair few people here who cannot muster together enough brain cells to understand how bad it is to do this.

Instead, let’s have a quick chat about the family. Even if they were trying to milk it, why on Earth shouldn’t they?! One of the most popular and experienced footballers in the world reacts like an angsty teen (cnut is a better way to describe him after what he done) in a jam-packed stadium with all the cameras on him. To a child no less.

The guy has more money then every single one of us put together will ever see in our lives. To make such a ridiculous and immature error is entirely his fault and the family should be doing everything they can to squeeze every penny they can out of him.

Guarantee you everyone here would be trying to do the same thing, and if you wouldn’t be, you’re a fecking idiot.

Not that I think this is a huge deal but I do hope the kid gets some money out of this, Ronaldo has too much anyways.

I think it was a shit thing to do, but getting money out of it? The world is fecked up.

The lad should get something out of it. Ronaldo doesn't just get to say "sorry about breaking your phone, good luck with that". It has to be replaced at the very least and why not some other gesture for reparations like a paid up trip, not necessarily a big wad of cash.

Obviously he should get a new phone. He should make this right.

Get money out of it is just not right in my book. Reminds me of USA and all the stupid lawsuits. The woman who burned her hand getting a cup of coffee. Now every cup says something like: Contains hot liquid.

A grown man hit a child for no reason. Him getting off scot free would be fecked up.

I am not saying his going to get off free. I am saying that people can sort things out in a decent manner between him and the kid and his family.

It’s pathetic that people always see things like this as an opportunity to earn money. Earn money from making it yourself.

Cristiano makes tons of money with stuff like "endorsing" video games, diet supplements, shampoos, gyms, but the kid making money off getting slapped by Ronaldo is pathetic? Who are you to tell him how to develop his brand? Money doesn't stink, as the Romans knew. An example of the workings of the famous "trickle down economy".

Why would the family want to listen to a word he says? They are rightly apoplectic that a man far closer to 40 than 20 has attacked their child just for being somewhere he had every right to be.

What’s pathetic is a 37 year old man throwing a tantrum, not the rightful anger of the parent of a child who was on the receiving end of said tantrum.

That must be the most stupid thing I have read in a long time. What you are saying is that exploiting is all good? The kid is not a brand. It’s a very unfortunate and sad situation. Ronaldo did act as a stupid twat and must of course make amends for that.

If my kid breaks a window at school he would need to own up and obviously pay for the damage done. It’s not going to be me paying shitloads of cash to make it go away. That would be the school exploit me.

Ronaldo got a brand, like it or not, but he can and he obviously will earn money by it doing stupid commercials. Fair play to him, he earned that.

And to be clear, I don’t know what intentions the kids family got. They might just condemn the situation and move on. They got every right to act the way they find best.

I just don’t like that opportunity grabbing mentality when someone with money does something stupid, they must pay their way out of it, while "normal" people can do the normal thing; own up and do the right thing.

That I agree on. It’s childish as feck and his reputation took a bad dive imo. He should try to make amends and at least replace the kids phone. If the kids family don’t want anything to do with Ronaldo, then fine, they should do what’s best for them.

What a pathetic mother of the son who was ''assaulted'' .

This celebrity worship stuff is crazy, the kid got his phone punched out of his and smashed by a grown man. Stop pretending this is normal.

What are these people's intentions then by highlighting that this kid was autistic? Perhaps that the kid may have been even more distressed than a normal kid from the incident perhaps?

Someone else has already replied. It makes it sound like the kid was targeted because he was autistic to make Ronaldo seem like even more of a cnut. The kid having autism has absolutely no impact on the assessment of Ronaldos actions. It would be akin to saying that its worse because the did doesn't have a dad or something like that. Its just the media trying to make it more shocking that it is.

Contains a luke warm liquid. Can't even get a decently hot cup anymore because of these idiots.

Ronaldo was wrong. This kid will make money out of it, especially off the rag tops who love this type of shit, he'll eventually just get paid off to shut up about it. He might even get in some Paddy Power ads.

I don’t disagree with the latter bit but this thing people seem to be suggesting on here to the effect that the family should just shake hands with Ronaldo, move on and make things easy on him is odd. They owe him nothing. They don’t share equal blame in this episode. They’re not responsible for making Ronaldo feel better or rehabilitating his image. People don’t get to decide how upsetting they may have found this. Ronaldo, by his actions, has subjected the kid and his family to national scrutiny and abuse. And people think he should be doing a photo shoot with him and his new iPhone 11?
