Watched him at the WC and he was very good. Since then a hand full of times in Italy and he was alright, he will be a sub player for us and that’s about how I’d rate his ability

He’s 27 this summer and before the World Cup was a squad player at multiple clubs in Holland and Belgium.

I think Lavia will be one of the best dm’s in Europe within a few years that’s the sort of talent we should be in for especially at 50m which will be an absolute bargain for Liverpool.


City have a buyback that activates next summer if he stays at Southampton, they would have 100% taken the option and I bet they’re a bit gutted

If it was us signing Lavia and Liverpool getting Amrabat, we would have been appreciative of them getting a more proven and established player for cheap. Its just the nature of fans while comparing transfers.

If Klopp's plan is to have his starting midfield three be Mac Allister, the Hungarian, and Lavia - I won't be overly worried about them this season.

If you need to see a full season worth of games from a player before you're entitled to form an opinion on them 95% of the Caf wouldn't be able to post in the football forums.

And in the world cup he was fecking brilliant, so if you're putting Lavia ahead of him whilst considering the great WC performances, there is some hilariously broken logic somewhere.

This is what i feel.

Liverpools signings have been mediocre for me for a whilst now - it feels like klopp has lost a bit of his Mojo.

Or he was able to raise his game alongside the rest of their team for a handful of games and has regressed to the mean since, which would check out given that no team was convinced after the World Cup and his biggest team to date is still Fiorentina, Feyenoord or Bruges aged 27. The evidence is much, much more overwhelming that he's just a "fine" player who wouldn't start at Utd in most games or not even improve your current starting XI.

The reason I watched some of his games in Italy was because of the WC but he’s not carried that form on else they wouldn’t be asking for 20 odd million or whatever the fee is.

He’s being bought as a backup and like I said earlier that’s his level hence 27 years old with the majority of his career as a squad player.

I'm not the one putting his WC form into the argument. The other poster is.

I never mix WC with club competition for obvious reasons. The "biggest team to date" argument is a bit lazy. Lavia doesn't necessarily start games for us or improve our starting XI either - so not sure what your actual point is there.

The point is Lavia is 19 with world class talent. This guy isn’t. You don’t need to watch a 38 game season to know that.

Why is being 27 years old such a problem for you? Players can hit their peak at different times. Amrabat isnt squad level for Fiorentina by the way.

Back to your reasons for Lavia over him, you do know we are interested in squad quality in depth, not outright replacing Casemiro this season?

Especially considering he’d be needing to start 50 games next season. We really don’t have anyone else in that position providing the other two feck off to the Saudi league. Thiago and Bajcetic are deeper midfielders but both are better 8’s, they don’t have the running power for that role and their strengths lie elsewhere. Plus the former isn’t likely to play more than 25-30 games a season at most and the latter is coming off an injury after being overplayed.

It’s not an ideal situation but the DM market looks pretty scarce. The best ones are costing 100m or thereabouts. There’s no 24yo Fabinho available for 40-60m anymore.

Then there’s also the issue of needing another CB considering how injury prone ours are. Genuinely think we need another 3-4 bodies in and I’m not convinced we’ll get 2 even.

I’d be getting rid of Fabinho, Henderson, Matip, Kelleher and Phillips minimum. Gomez only surviving cause he’s HG. Squad badly needs a refresh and fresh legs. Think the hunger has gone from quite a few.

What the feck does "world class talent" mean? He's shown potential? That's it? So he's worth £20m more than Amrabat based off that, which I can digest. What I dont understand is why youd say we should move for him when we have world class DM talents of our own sitting in our academy, whilst Amrabat is ready to add value now in squad depth.

It's just broken logic.

Lavia would be a bit of a project player that could be introduced and be in place for the next 10 years if handled well. The other is in his prime and still would only be a back up player (but is cheaper in fairness)

He’s shown that for his position he’s one of the most exciting players. They paid a decent fee for him and Man City have a 40m buyback clause next summer. He’s been universally praised all season long whilst playing for one of the worst teams in the PL.


Top talent at 19. Exactly the sort of player we should be after when our current stater in that spot will soon be 32.

What is your argument mate what are you rambling on about? Because I’ve not watched 30 Amrabat games I can’t make a comparison? You’re talking absolute shite pal.

I'd much prefer Lavia over Amrabat but that's probably why one will be a lot pricier

and before anyone starts harping on about sample sizes, I've seen them both 2/3 times but I'm right and you are wrong ya cnuts

The issue with that is that we'd be slowing down his development and the trajectory he's currently on. He is not going to play ahead of Casemiro, and he's not going to choose a club where he isn't a starter ahead of a club where he is, especially when you consider that both teams are equally as good. We might be a bit better than Liverpool, but we'll see this season.

Amrabat is a far better player than McTominay and also better than Lavia, even though the latter has a higher ceiling. It is far from a pointless signing.

If YOU can't judge a player after watching them a handful of times then that says more about you. I saw the warm up of Garnacho during last season's preseason game against Rayo Vallecano to know instantly what a talent he was and in the same warm up could see how Tahith Chong (after hearing so much about him from those who watch the adademy games), to know he looked shite and not fit for a club as big as ours.

One went onto have a great season in the first team, the other has been moved on..

My point being we don't ALL need to watch hundreds of games of a player to judge them.

^ This is an absolute pile of wank, I'm sorry. Exciting? How? He's shown he's very polished in DM but as the poster above mentioned, still a project player. At 19 he has a lot of potential but this idea that he's on the cusp of certain greatness is just exaggerated.

My point is two fold - 1) We have a massively talented youngster of our own in Mainoo, and we need depth in our squad, not to improve on Casemiro right now. Amrabat fits the bill to hit the ground running best for that. and 2) Don't make lazy punts when youve not seen the player. Trying to use WC performances (when international form is completely different to club form) is just broken logic.

I’m not sure it’s that so much as the reality and nature of the market changing. We used to pat ourselves on the back with media puff pieces on how exemplary our recruitment was which it was for a period. But those gaps in the market we exploited through analytics do not exist anymore. There’s far more widespread access to data than there’s ever been. Add to that it feels like everything behind the scenes has been dismantled.

I think we’ve signed some very good players, Diaz, Jota, Konate, Gakpo etc but the difference is none of them have yet stepped up and made themselves stars or game changers. Our best players are the same as they were 3-4 years ago. Salah, Alisson, Trent etc.

We need a few of those players to go up a level.

There aren’t many 19 year old dm’s at his level. To stand out the way he did last season he’s easily got the potential to be up there with the best so yeah I’d say it’s world class talent
