Romeo Lavia | Chelsea bound?

I'd happily replace Fred, Scott and DVB with Hannibal, Mainoo and add Lavia.

Looks like we are out of the running, i presume because we are trying to get amrabat done after hojlund.

With Mainoo looking so good I don’t think someone with a similar profile would be a priority for us.
I do like lavia a lot though, quality player

Liverpool need him the most, so that is the worst outcome for us.

Chelsea will only need him if they don't sign Caicedo.

Arsenal don't really need him unless Partey leaves. But it might encourage Arteta to revert to 2 deeper midfielders and 1 advanced midfielder, which would probably balance their team again, as opposed to Rice with Odegaard and Havertz ahead.

Remember, that Rice-Odegaard-Havertz is not a set in stone midfield for Arsenal, it is one of Arsenal's potential midfield combinations. You would get that balance you speak about by starting Partey with Rice and Odegaard ahead of them for example.

As for Lavia, I think its an important purchase for Arsenal. Allows us to transition from Partey this season, allowing Romeo to step in as our number six in 24/25. Im hoping we complete the deal and bring him to the Emirates.

Yeah I just got the impression that Arteta wanted to phase Partey out, either through a sale or by changing his system anyway. Do you think he will still adopt the same midfield structure you had last season? Perhaps in the bigger games?

My logic was simply that he might feel committed to the Havertz in midfield experiment after the outlay, and it might be a noose around his neck tactically. But if you spent money on Lavia, then it is a sort of 'get out of jail card' to go back to a more solid midfield base that worked well last season.

With Southampton's relegation, I'd have thought 37M is a fair offer to be honest. But Lavia has interest from like 2-3 other clubs, so fair enough. It's going to end up being something like 40M + 5.

Wish we'd be interested. He's definitely got top top potential. Such a shame he's joining Liverpool.

It’s called dodgy cheap deals!
I'd much rather we just paid the £50m and be done with it right away, but if we can get ~£5m off of each summer signing, we save around £15-20m per year which is an additional backup defender or young midfielder that can be signed (very simplistic, but you get the gist).

That said I really do hope we sign him, would be an ideal Fabinho replacement and lots of room for improvement at 19 years old.

50m for one of the biggest DM talents in the Prem seems like a bargain.

We’ll end up paying 30m for Amrobat who will be a squad player at best we should be pushing for Lavia who will be great long term successor to Casemiro

50 million is a fair price for a talent like Lavia, sick of those Scouse rats low-balling clubs and getting away with it while we always get bent over.

Really good young player. You can't sign them all though. We have Mainoo who is even younger and a bigger talent.

Is he really? Looking forward to seeing him play if that's the case. Watched him for the first time vs Arsenal and he was pretty good but Lavia is one of the top rated young midfielders around. If Mainoo is a bigger talent than that, I can't wait to see more of him.

He's not as talented as Lavia don't listen to that poster, plus they don't play in the same position.

Only in my opinion of course. No doubt I'll be chased out of here by people telling me to "Remember Savage and Zidane Iqbal from last pre-season". Mainoo is a huge talent.

If we were interested the price quoted would be £55 million. As Liverpool’s feeder club, they will probably be quoted £10 million and Curtis Jones.

That does not mean he will live up to his potential.

Amrabat will be a squad player, but so would Lavia be. I think Amrabat is the better player now and has way more experience and seems like a tougher player, so he would probably be the better fit right now with his skillset.

We also have Mainoo coming up, so getting a young midfielder for £50m when they have similar skills would not be ideal.

Think ideally with the age profiles of the players involved Liverpool would have keep Fabinho or even Henderson and have Lavia eased in to take over as the main no 6 over the next year or so, but obviously that's not looking like the case, so relying on someone so young in a fully new midfield might have some teething issues, but it's definitely a high potential midfield in the mid to long term.

Good player, lots of potential, loves a wild two footed tackle from time to time, and is a prodigious diver. Will do well at Liverpool.

According to what? The fact he didn’t play 26 matches for a relegated side last season?

Nobody knows what his potential will reach but at 19 he’s already a good player. I’d be taking him for the long term of the club over Amrabat who will end up a McTominay level squad player. Pointless

Rumour was southampton wants north of 50 mn so why chelsea put hold of pursuing him.It was two weeks before. May be now liverpool bid was rejected that rumour must be true.

Some of our fanbase shouldn't be allowed to watch our youngsters play, the level you then put them on is actually deranged.
Some just cannot spot potential or simply don't have any courage in their convictions. A top talent is a top talent irrespective of what level they happen to be playing at or independent of what average players like Savage and Iqbal were up to a year ago.

My issue is people were saying the likes of Savage and Iqbal were top talents this time last year and that we shouldn't be signing senior players because we shouldn't be blocking their path into the first team. I've seen it a thousand times on here, plenty of people can't spot talent, they just like to over hype the kids.

Trust me, I used to do it to when I was a child with nothing better to do, watched all the youth games etc. I'm still convinced Petrucci is our future!

I want this to happen but at the same time I’ll be concerned if Fabinho and Henderson both leave (which looks likely) and we don’t get a more experienced dm in, too.

Relying on a 19 year old with just 29 PL matches under his belt to be an automatic starter for us is risky.

The people talking up Savage and Iqbal were plain wrong. However, every now and then a genuine quality talent does come along and they shouldn't be shot down just because some misinformed posters overrated a bunch of our average academy talents in the past.

For what it's worth, Petrucci was a really good young talent. I believe he would have gone on to have had a successful career if it wasn't for injuries.

I'm hopeful about Mainoo, but I've seen enough talents not quite make the step up after looking so positive, that I'm a lot more cautious.
