Romelu Lukaku

I reckon he's going to be a star - in a few years mind.

He cant be that far ahead of Welbeck at this moment, although he's a good bit younger.

For this league, i don't think he's ahead of Welbeck at all. Iv'e seen him a few times and his speed and strength are his best assests, the technical side of his game is lacking.

Which you'd expect to improve significantly when he training with world class players.

I dont know where this guy is going to fit in anyway, they've got plenty strikers already.

You used to be able to buy someone like Ruud Van Nistelrooy for £20m.

Has anyone actually seen him play on a consistent basis aside from a few odd youtube videos? How far away is he from legitimate first team action?

Once Drogba and Anelka leave after this season, it will be him and Torres leading the line for Chelsea from next season.

I'd only saw him a couple of times but thought the same - Anderlecht did him no favours by constantly hoofing it up to him and expecting him to challenge alone against 2 or 3 defenders every time, but he didn't hold the ball up well at all and even seemed a bit brainless.

So you've seen him on a consistent basis?

Are they supposed to be gone after this year? If not, I'd imagine he'd be fifth choice behind those two, Torres, and Sturridge.

Both of them (Drogba and Anelka) will be out of contract at the end of this season. I hope Drogba stays but it very much depends on how Torres does I guess.

No chance. You'd have Sturridge in before him, proven he can perform in the league and will be given a big chance this year.

I think Sturridge will play far more often in one of the wide positions in our front three. That is certainly how it worked pre season.

I have no idea how whether or not Lukaku is capable of being as effective there.

I can't imagine letting Anelka and Drogba both leave on free transfers the same season. They have preformed about 2/3 of your goalscoring duties the past few years it seems.

He certainly appears to be a target man, judging by his frame. He really is a monster for a teenager.

Anelka will be gone to MLS. His brother/agent has said as such.

His brother (Claude, I believe), was a manager of a USL (similar to The Championship for the MLS) team in my town before getting fired, and then having the club disband as a whole after only one season.

One of the top young strikers in the game. Huge potential, reminds me of Drogba.

Sky are reporting Stoke are in talks with Chelsea about a possible loan deal for Lukaku.

ssn saying he cant sign for them now due to fifa rules, he can join in January.

Can't move twice in the same window?

Daft rule if so. It can rob young players like Lukaku of half a season of football.

You can't play for more than two clubs in a year can you? I think basically if they wanted to do this move, why the hell bring him on last game/

I'm sure he'll get playing time at the end of games and in Cup games.

And it's not a silly rule - it stops players like Chelsea or City from buying every young talent on the planet and just loaning them out for 5 years until they are ready to play for the home team.

Am I missing something or did Chelsea not buy that Belgian goalkeeper and loan him out to Atletico Madrid? In the same transfer window?

what happened to this guy? didnt Chelski pay a fair bit for him? was supposed to be the new drogba but must be one of the worst signings of recent times

He's young and hardly been played, way too early to write him off.

Been in their ressies got 7 or 11 goals (I forget the figure) and played against us a little while back. Didn't impress but is definitely young, learning and trying to improve.

Will end up at Porto, I guess.

I think he made a mistake moving to Chelsea last season. If he had played more at Anderlecht, he would be better now with another season under his belt. Maybe the next season he will get more chances due to Drogba leaving, who by the way is the main reason he went to Chelsea - to play alongside his childhood hero/role model! And Chelsea need to trust him and actually play him in games. That's the only way he will improve.

He just turned 19...

so what? he had plenty of hype but barely had a look in and cost around £15m - similar price and age to Jones who featured many times and the ox at arse is younger and played plenty

he's got time to sort it out but a big waste of money so far

Yeah I agree, awful signing so far.

The management of him hasn't been great though. With only Drogba, who missed part of the season with the ACN, and a misfiring Torres a coach good at developing youngsters would have given him games. He's not going to improve sitting in the reserves.

He was always going to be playing behind Drogba, Torres, Sturridge and in the beginning of the season, Anelka. Maybe they expected better in the first season but he is one for the future. Sure Jones had plenty of chances for us and Ox played a fair bit for Arsenal, Fergie and Wenger are known for giving young players time on the field. But remember, United payed a fair amount of money for Nani, it's not like he was an instant success. And there have been others... Vidic and Evra to name two of our current stars, a lot of players need time to adjust to the English game. Maybe he will or maybe not, but I wouldn't call him a big waste of money after one season of football.
