When he was seemingly nailed on to join us almost all I saw on this forum is "he's a downgrade on Costa, he's not a top level striker, he's a big lump who scores plenty of goals but is shit technically."

Now he's on his way to Old Trafford and this place is creaming themselves.

There are quite a few people on here who are saying they don't want him. Personally I think he will improve our starting 11 and add a guaranteed goal threat so is a great signing. Others don't agree.

I will say that he does have periods in a season where his goal return seems to dry up a bit the same could be said for Zlatan though so all is good. If he doesn't score it's up to somebody else to fill the void.

That being said nothing is done until it's announced on an official Utd source. I take all media sights with a pinch of salt even the BBC.

Aren't Morata and Lukaku similar ages? Morata my be the better footballer but comparing their goal records would suggest that Lukaku is the better striker.

Not really. They've both had very different career paths, with one playing more, and starting in his favoured position. You can't compare their goal tallies, it's not really fair.

His goals record is beyond reproach, but other than that, watching him gives me a similar feeling I'd expect to have if we played Smalling upfront. And I honestly don't think there's much exaggeration at all in that.

I am delighted with Lukaku. He was my #1 want this summer. Can't wait to see him bang them in for us

With losing Zlatan, I think he will just give you what you had last season tbh, which isn't really a bad thing x.

He ticks all the boxes on my five-step checklist in assessing whether a transfer looks like a good idea or not.

He isnt going to suddenly decide he hates rain or being cold.
His missus isnt going to decide she hates England.
If he gets broken into he calls the locksmith and gets better security on his doors and windows.
He grew up not caring two shits about the famous white shirts of Madrid.
He loves putting mayo on his chips, but isnt adverse to sloshing some gravy on there instead from time to time.

One thing I dont usually formally consider is how good they actually are at football, but this guy scores a lot of goals, so seems well suited to play in the position of striker.

So all in all Im happy with this one. I approve this message.

That's a pretty good comparison actually, they share a similar lumbering awkwardness on the ball.

Disappointing. Not a player who has shown anything that suggests he can lead a league-challenging side or do anything in the CL.

For £75m, you might as well add a bit more and go for the world beaters.

Lukaku has it all to prove here.

Like who, that is available?

I can confirm this as absolute tosh. 100% made up drivel.

In May Lukaku said he know exactly who he was signing for; he knew he was coming here. United played the Morata game, getting Everton to come down in price.

De Brun GENUINELY 100% - I know this for a fact - has absolutely ZERO inside information.

United have not turned to Lukaku as a last resort and Lukaku did not have preference for Chelsea over United.

I would recommend a ban for De Brun. Guy lies for a living and I'm not sure he genuinely has any problem sleeping. I think he just loves the attention, and it doesn't bother him that the attention he gets comes from him blatantly lying. He would lie straight to your face and I know because he has lied straight to me.

Bullshitter of the saddest order.
Good post, completely agree. The modern 'ITK' (attention seeking bullchodder) on Twitter.

There is no way someone like Pilib De Brun, Stephen Howson or Tancredi Palmeri should be taken seriously or even considered as news on here. They know absolutely nothing.

But so, one can definitely expect different prices.

I just hope Lukaku has it in him to improve his areas of weakness. At least Jose is the right manager to help him do so. If he can sort that out, we will have a great player in our hands.

It's funny. As much as I wanted Morata over Lukaku. I feel that 75 million pounds for Lukaku is more justified than 70 million for Morata. I don't know how it makes sense but it does in my head.

Morata is more talented than Lukaku and is also more technically gifted but I can see your preference towards a proven striker in the league. Although being proven in the premier league isn't really a form of guarantee seeing the number of flops we've had with signing players who have performed for other English clubs. Schneiderlin was a recent example, everyone was convinced we've signed one of the best CMs in the league and we all know how that ended.

The bullshit about Morata's potential world class technical ability is ridiculous.
Where the feck are people getting this from?

Agreed. Think because he is Spanish he has Iniesta levels of technique.

He can technique the ball as pretty as he wants but if he doesn't score then what is the point?!

I am in 2 minds, the positives? his age its a great age to invest in the striker, if he works out we be getting allot of years out of the player, his goals return is good with PL proven and hopefully his movement on and off the ball and get in behind defenses gives us that option to press sides, negatives? first touch could be a problem, has that knack of missing chances etc and the price, but positives we spending money on a player that has mileage but is not a player that is inexperience. I am hopeful he becomes like an eto'o signing, where his no9 style with his movement is a nightmare for defenses where we not playing infront of teams, and gives our players that ability to see him run at defenses helps our game be allot more quicker, especially counter attacking. Mkhi lukaku martial with pogba and herrera feeding to these 3 gives us that movement to unlock sides allot more often, all we missing is a DM and another attacking player, and it could be a good summer for the club.

If I compared lukaku in religious terms in believing I am in some ways Agnostic lol. But this is the age level I feel the club should spend the big bucks on, its allot of money spent but its an investment we getting allot of years out of him if he works out perfect for us

He's upset because he's been claiming that he's mates with Woodward and knows all of our transfer plans to the last detail, but has been shown up because he didn't have a clue that Lukaku's apparently been our main target all summer.
Whether he's reliable or not, it's pretty fecking stupid to be so critical of the United CEO if you're as close to him as De Brun claims to be.

Only the other day he was boasting about swapping emails with Woodward. Will Woody keep on indulging him if he slates him on Twitter? Of course not.

Tomorrow we'll hear it's off and that Chelsea are going in strong for him again. I don't believe a single thing the press says, I'll only believe a signing when it's announced officially by the club.

Ha ha, exactly the same.

Maybe partly down to the whole "PL proven" thing.

Also the fact that Woodward offered 60 for Morata and then seemed unwilling to raise the offer. If he had gone in at 70, or had been obviously willing to up the offer, it might have seemed more reasonable? The fact Real were holding out for it, and we were digging our heels in, suggested Woodward had set his value, you have to assume in consultation with our scouts and Mourinho etc. So I guess I just took my lead from him.

And then lastly, not dealing with Madrid. That is worth a few million quid easily.

Due to the respective scenarios.

Morata may be more talented, but the circumstances he will be leaving Real are in that he is ultimately a squad player, and still doesn't have the profile of a leading striker at a top club.

Lukaku is the star striker at Everton, and has the tangible goals on his CV. Everton appear more justified in not giving him up cheaply than Real do. Nothing to do with their talent. Just circumstances. You may prefer Morata, but Real are not logically justified in asking more for him than Everton want for Lukaku.

Is it my job to scout for United? But I'll play. Aubameyang for one who is itching to leave Dortmund, Cavani (yes, much reviled on the Caf) are both superior technically to Lukaku and proven goalscorers.

Why am I not surprised?

Cavani? Cavani is more suited to 'our' football than Lukaku? Well I'm really glad our scouts/manager don't see it that way because your idea makes no sense at all to me and them probably. As for Aubameyang I don't see how he's a better option than Lukaku. He could come here and do a Kagawa for all we know. Fact is, the manager knows what he needs to achieve what he wants, and him and many of us feel Lukaku will fit into it nicely. You've invented an idea of 'our' football in your head and moan about who fits into it and who doesn't. Your not the manager, if you don't like Lukaku it's okay but going as far as saying fecking Cavani is better suited to the brand of foootball you created in your head is hilarious

So after asking me who I feel better suited to the kind of football we should be playing, you defaulted to 'our manager chose Lukaku so shut up'.

Well done. You could have done that from the start and save us from this farce of an exchange.

Because Morata is on bench at Real or because he has a huge probability of wanting to go back if Real come calling next season.

Voted ambivalent, because i expected Griezmann before the window. From all the "available" strikers he seems to be the best one however...definitely a class above Morata

There's a Lukaku v Morata thread for your boring comparison chat.

Let's use this thread for the potential signing of Big Rom!

I think we are going for both. With ibra injured and rooney gone we were always going to sign two forwards. Griezmann was our no 1 signing for the shadow striker role. Now we are getting morata

Pogba just put up a pic of him, Lukaku and someone else on Instagram.

I think it would be a hard sell for Morata swapping the Real bench for United's. Yes I know there are a lot of games but one of them will be the main man, the other won't.
Ronaldo Benzema Bale v Lukaku Martial Rashford which frontline would be easier to get in?

Why do you call them idiots? Because their opinions differ from yours?
He's right, there are many idiots on here. I mean calling Lukaku a donkey, or comparing him to playing Smalling up front, is idiotic.
