If he comes, it means we get a proven striker in the league who'll get us at least 20 league goals, if he doesn't it means Chelsea just fecked up their budget for the next 2 transfer window.

I'm fine whichever way it goes.

The bullshit about Morata's potential world class technical ability is ridiculous.
Where the feck are people getting this from?

Plenty of the Caf much be present at Real Madrid training on a daily basis. A swear a lot of the posters on here should be top level scouts.

I think a lot of people just like to be either contrary, or buy into the stereotype that Morata, as a more typical continental footballer must possess the greater overall ability of the two since Lukaku (via more lazy stereotyping) is just a battering ram.

Or he's got good stats on footy manager or whatever its called these days.

Considering how frustrated fans get with Rooney, it's going to be interesting seeing our shiny new toy struggle to control the ball and misplace passes constantly.

I bet Sky are throwing uncertainty on the situation because they also happen to be a bookmaker. 11/4 to Chelsea has to be tempting to the pessimistic United fan.

Yeh going to be well annoying when he knocks in 25 a season.

Bloody first touch.

Managed to find a way to drop Rooney in this. You are a legend.

So, what are you going to do now?

I'm just happy to have players who are able to score out of nothing.
I'd expect Rashford, Martial, Mhki, Mata to score more goals next season too so we wouldn't be relying on Lukaku

This will be a big plus of having the pace and presence of Lukaku upfront - more space for other forwards to operate in...

You can't really argue with his goal return. It's been consistantly excellent.

I'd prefer Morata in terms of style of play, but as a goalscorer Lukaku's great. He's not as good to watch, but that's purely aesthetics.

He pretty much guarantees goals and that was a major failing last year - of regular starters last season he was only behind Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero in goals scored per minute played and he was in an Everton side much poorer offensively than either Spurs or City. Style is not such an issue - leave that to Martial, Mkhi, Mata, et al. Lukaku can be a 25-30 league goal a season man at United...

Our problem last season was that we weren't clinical. We've just signed a striker who guarantees at least 20+ goals a season who is exceptionally clinical.

He'll be fantastic at United.

He has pace and is also a clinical finisher - read the excellent Everton fan's post in this thread then imagine Lukaku getting on the end of some of Pogba, Herrera and Mata's intelligent through balls! Those passes were the ones that Zlatan didn't have the speed to exploit but Romelu has pace to burn. In that respect, he is like Rashford but 4 years further on in development.

This will be a great signing for us...

When are you closing your redcafe account and signing up to Grand Old Team?

Hope we get this done soon without fuss. If we really think he could be announced by Sunday that leaves tonight to get the arrangements in place, then tomorrow and Saturday to get the medical done in LA and all the PR stuff. Enough time to fly Stormzy over, too.

He could score a hattrick and there would be people complaining because 2 of them were deflections and the other came off his shin

Am i the only one who still expects some drama and pain in this? After initial reports there have been more claims about it not being concluded.
Paul Joyce said it's done, which is the equivalent of an official announcement from either Merseyside club for any transfer they're involved in.

Simon Stone has also put his neck on the line. Patience, it's done.

So, sounds like we got pissed off waiting for Madrid. At the same time (purely coincidentally) we put in a bid for lukaku and have it (supposedly) accepted.

So, if lukaku is first choice (which i think he was) why didnt we put this bid in before?

It's because lukaku had chosen Chelsea. Thats fine, makes sense. So what changed? Lukaku doesnt care if this drags on but i bet Riola does. How much you want to bet this was Riola telling utd to bid as chelsea were stalling, but actually wanting Chelsea to get their finger out.

So what will now happen is Chelsea will bid the same, lukaku will agree to go Chelsea. And when we go skulking back to madrid they'll laugh at us and demand 75m.

This could end awfully

You're seriously overthinking things.

United City or who ever , its not coming out of our bank accounts, so I dont really give a monkeys.

Okay, but I dont remember that when City were taken over and spending huge amounts on players. I remember everyone here laughing at them. And now I see different when we are the ones spending a lot without winning the league. If you felt that way at the time then fair enough, but if anyone was posting like that at the time it would have probably stuck out to me since everyone else was laughing and making fun of it.

 You'd kill it in a creative writing class.

Well Ibra also got slated (me included) for his often mediocre passing despite scoring his 25 goals and Lukaku's passing, holdup play and touch seems even worse and well, our fans do hate it so it's going to be interesting to see the reaction to his performances.

My username has been outdated for a while, I'm good with it

Idk why I'm so excited about this transfer, could be built up frustration over the lack of activity but I think with the amount of chances we created last year Lukaku would have easily scored 30 goals. He should be a monster for us! Group stages of CL and league games against lower half of the table you need forwards like him to win the points we should be getting. The fixtures against the top 6 will require team efforts and we will have enough players around him to really be a force.

If he does struggle to control the ball and misplaces passes I'm sure you'll put it down to a lack of movement from others/the manager/not enough pace in the side/injury/the weather.

I'm conflicted on this transfer. He does add some pace and finishing but I'd like to see finally see us play some good football and I'm not sure he adds to that.

It staggers me that they're allowed to run both a sports 'news' outlet and a betting company, particularly when the former has a history of breaking stories that turn out to be false.
