Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

Why wouldnt he? Lukaku crushes him in that regard?
Henry was never a star with France, it's not as laughable as it looks
Henry was a star at germany 06. Overshadowed by Zidane, of course, who was godlike, but he was a monster in that tournament

Otherwise yeah, Henry never really shone for France. Lukaku had a very good world cup last year

Wouldn't read too much into friendlies and qualifiers

And i disagree that international football is stronger now. Italy, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands all had much better sides in henry's time than they do now

In fact, the 06 French side was better than the current one too, imho

I can’t believe it’s even being debated.

The post was put up to compare their goal records, but Lukuku can’t score against any decent sides, never makes a difference in a big match and not a single rational person who has ever watched football would entertain that Lukuku should be mentioned in the same breadth as Henry.

As others have stated, just look at who he has scored against.

Also, you can’t say international football is harder, it’s not from a goal scoring perspective - it’s far easier for players to score in this day and age than 20 years ago!

Lukuku is like a woman with a wonder bra - looks impressive, but when you strip back, there’s nothing impressive about those stats.

Still better than a saggy one without bras

It's just stupid to invite comparison to a player that makes him look even more of a donkey when compared.

The only thing people trying to defend Lukaku have ever been able to point to is numbers, because trying to defend him based on what you see on the field isn’t possible. That someone would really think it’s sensible in any way to try comparing him to one of the greatest players in the history of the game truly beggars belief.

Alright so his international record is comparable. Does that mean he’s anywhere near the player Henry is? Don’t make me laugh.

I can only come to the conclusion that Conte did not watch many United matches over the last two years, and was still under the impression he'd be getting the version of Lukaku that was about when Conte was Chelsea's manager.

I actually kind of feel bad for the Inter fans. £70m for a player whose touch is completely gone.
Conte is dreadful in the transfer market, like truly awful.

The mere sight or clip of him gives me a huge sigh of relief he isnt here anymore. Very dislikeable on and off the pitch

Thats like 5 sides who rarely played each other outside of sub friendly (holy crap it was bad back then)games or in finals. The standard of smaller to medium sides have shot up since then imo. Most sides are just more organised.

I'm not so sure honestly. Some have improved while others got worse. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Romania, ROI, Czech Republic, all better in henry's time

Poland, Russia, NI, Belgium, Wales, are better now

The likes of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, Moldova, Andorra, etc might be better now, but does it matter? Any half decent side will paste them easily anyways

Russia aren't better. 2013 to 2018 is the worst i've ever seen the NT play, home quarter final or not and things are in generational transition since then that is too early to predict. Henry's time-say from 00 qualifiers to 08 or 10 had a lot more talent around, it was just squandered mostly by some really poor managers and organisation until we finally got a good manager in Hiddink who salvaged some of it.

Yep. Lukaku is much broader.

I don't really see the point, it's meaningless. It doesn't take into account who they've played against and the roles they had in the team, not to mention that they list Henrys total number of apps for France and not how many he needed to reach 51. Instead of simply focusing on the fact that Lukaku is the first player to accomplish such a feat for Belgium they decide to compare his stats with Henry, arguably one of the best strikers we've had in the premiership.

Let's be fair, Lukaku has been a goal machine in the past and he did have a few devastating spells for United.

So what happened to him?

Did anything happen to him? his first season was what you'd expect, and last season Jose had given up before we started, and everyone was bad, then Ole just didn't fancy him, but he still had a couple of goal bursts, then he tailed off towards the end when it was clear he was going to be sold.

He is what he is, and United should look to be way better, but you could guarantee that if he was here now, and had been given Rashford's minutes, he'd have outscored him, and that is not a dig at Rashford, we just should not have let Lukaku go and replace him with fresh air.

For some reason he arrived at OT & stopped doing what I was looking forward to most.

I remember watching him tear Citeh a new one & genuinely thought with balls played into the wing/behind he would be a success.

Genuinely p***ed off it didn’t work out cause it should have been devastating in theory.

He seemed to thrive on running onto balls played between the cb and fb, but came to us and it seemed Jose wanted to turn him into a target man which was never his game.

Zlatan on Lukaku:
“At Manchester United, we made a bet: ‘I’ll give you £50 for every decent first touch you make.’ He replied: ‘What do I win if I get them all right?’

“I told him nothing, he would simply become a better player. For the record, he never accepted the bet! Perhaps he was afraid of losing…”

Ouch!

Totally agree. What also annoyed me was why ole didn’t turn him back into this type of player, as it would suit his style too

Agreed, but if reports are true, his attitude was stinking the place out, and he even came across so self centred towards the end. Good riddance and his amazing passes to the opposition.

Didn't Cryuff say something like "dont ever compare a great player to a goal scorer?" Of course if you're a striker goals matter, but it would be like saying that Lukkaku is better than Cantona and Bergkamp because he has scored more goals.

Zlatan on Lukaku:

Ouch!

Says it all that a professional footballer is having his first touch questioned by another.

Didn't SAF and Ronaldo have a bet on him scoring a certain amount of goals? Seem to remember it being for more than £50 too, just shows the difference in mentality.

Bolingoli is a good goalscorer but Menama always struggles when He has to play it beautifully. Romelu has a pair of chicken legs, it's hard to control them and They barely hold his weight properly when Lukaku got overweight.

Haram somewhere on Inter forum having a go at Zlatan in 3,2,1 (if that quote is true ofcc)

“What if I get them all right?”

Be serious, Romelu:lol:

Think the bet was that Ronaldo had to score 20 league goals that term or he'd shave his hair off. He ended up scoring 31 in 33 and 42 all comps that season.

Sounds like something that would motivate Ronaldo.

Yep, think we needed to sell him for all the reasons you’ve stated - my comment was still why ole didn’t give him a red hot crack in the first place (as someone who ran in behind)... whilst we’ll never know for sure, my sense is that he wouldn’t have had his attitude problems if he was given a spell/position in the starting 11.

He had a spell but Rashford was hot when Ole joined and wrestled it away from him. Even after Lukaku came back from time off he still had to earn his way back into the first team, something that he had never had to do since joining

In all honesty, when you watch this Man Utd team/season, Ole's lack of confidence, the amount of shit he's been thrown at on this forum... Running away to Inter was an obvious move.

Lukaku is one of the best flat track bully’s in world football. He punishes lesser teams better than most other strikers in the world and his scoring record reflects that. However his record against decent teams is abysmal which is also shown.
