Leading striker for the best international team in the world.

Maybe it is us.

Belgium are not the best international team in the world.

And yeah he scores goals for them but I would bet it's mostly against fodder. He just doesn't do it in the big games.

Who did he score against at the World Cup? Tunisia and Panama?

The last 10 international teams he’s scored against have been Switzerland , Iceland ,Scotland , Tunisia , Panama ,Costa Rica,Egypt ,Saudi Arabia ,Japan and Mexico.

No. CR7 bulked up and became unstoppable. De Gea bulked up and became top 3 in the world

Ronaldo had like 3% body fat and weighed in about 84 kilo. Lukaku is taller of course, but he has much more (unnecessary) muscle everywhere. In terms of squats, bench press, lat pulls and basically everything, he would crush Ronaldo's numbers - and it really isn't needed when you are a footballer. He looks like a rugby-player and it's getting embarrassing. Slim down Lukaku, you're over-weight.

So in other words, a lot of very average sides with defenders who would play for relegation fodder for the most part?

Exactly. Said that previously. His national team record proves nothing except what we know, that he's a flat track bully.

Maybe if they had an actual top striker they would actually have enough to win things. He's the weakest point in their attack by miles.

Exactly.
Even as a heavyweight boxer, Lukaku would not look out of place.
Let's hope that this is simply a weight issue - he loses the weight and he improves. If not, then the problem could be a lot more difficult to fix.

Yeah Belgium not winning anything is Lukaku’s fault .
Not necessarily. But having a striker who isn't a hindrance in the vast majority of big games is a massive problem. Put Fergie in charge and Lukaku's exactly the type who would start 75% of games but then be benched for every single big game. You have to understand the guys limitations, and starting him in those games is a big problem because that's a big limitation of his. He can't perform in them.

We knew his weakness before we signed, yet someone sanctioned £75m rising to 90 for him.

You figured it out mate. Or is it because Belgium are seriously lacking other candidates up front? Origi, Benteke and Batshuayi are bang average or worse. If Belgium had proper options up front, they could have challenged France this summer. You can get away with a shitty goalkeeper like Lloris, but you'll not win anything if your main focal point is dragging everyone else down. As mentioned before, during the World Cup Hazard and de Bruyne stopped passing for Lukaku in good positions because they knew he was going to screw everything up. Lukaku has 45 goals for Belgium, only two of them against a decent side in the qualifiers. Never scored a goal against a top-tier team in the WC or Euros. A brace against Croatia during the qualifiers in 2013 is his biggest feat, if you don't count the heroics against Gibraltar last season. I am not saying his international record isn't wonderful, because it really is on paper and I doubt players like Kane or Lewandowski would be that much better playing the same games, but it doesn't offer any value in terms of how things work in real life. Manchester United do not play the equivalent of Estonia, Finland, Gibraltar, Cyprus, Tunisia and Panama in the Premier League and Champions League. Belgium playing these sides are basically the same as 6th graders playing 3rd graders in the school-yard.

wtf is our coaches giving him for training program?
We are putting steroids in his food.

I seriously think the WC year ruined it for him. He's definitely better than what he's showing at the moment as we saw it last season. Jose should rest him if he has any sense left.

Man, Giroud couldn't even get a shot away but France still won the cup.

So, Lukaku is playing for Belgium = he is among the best players. Therefore, Giroud playing for the team that won they World Cup has to mean he is among the best players, according to your logic.

Yep there you go.

Best team there would be Switzerland maybe?

Similar to Lukaku at club level. He'll get you goals against Brighton and Burnley and those sort of teams, although at the minute he'd struggle to score against non league sides, but in the really big games you'll get nothing from him.

For what it's worth obviously the Lukaku we're seeing now is much much worse than the norm. He's been shocking for months. The real issue is I don't think a confident on form Lukaku is good enough if we want to win trophies anyway.

What's the point of him being so bulked up? Do Man Utd staff members see an advantage that we are all missing...?

Maybe they accidentally put some steroids in his food:D

I wonder if all the criticism will motivate him? If he continues like this I can see the fans in the stadium turn on him completely. Could get really nasty for him.

There were signs on Tuesday that the crowd were turning on him.

Huge groans at the end when he attempted to control a ball and it instead ballooned up 7ft into the air.

"If Belgium had a better striker, they'd have challenged France."
It is like the Striker scoring just four goals is the reason they couldn't challenge France. France had one that didn't even take a shot on target but still won. It seems football is a team sport.

Yes, it is a team sport, that is why Giroud was useful. He provided other things to his team, that Lukaku did not. Lukaku was not the sole reason that Belgium failed (other players, including Fellaini, were more detrimental in the semi vs France) of course, but he did not have a really good tournament either.

He's been woeful this season.

In a team that has underperformed in general he's really stuck out.

I have a lot of love for him, but he needs to be dropped right now.

it really makes you wonder whats going on.

Even the nutritionists aren't doing their job properly. From the executives to the nutritionists, you have to wonder how deep the problem really is.

Lukaku was one of Belgium's best players. The guys in the final gets most of the adulation and deservedly so, but if you exclude them - I know, Lukaku was one of the best players overall too.

Might his problems come form not having enough rest in the summer? Season 17/18 he played a lot and then played in the WC. He has weaknesses not related to mental or physical fatigue but he isn't usually as bad as he is now.

Your error is your categorizing every player who adds muscle into the same pot. Simply look at Ronaldo's physique when he was here and compare it to our sloth up front. Ronaldo bulked up in the same way a bodybuilder does, isolating the muscles he wanted to develop and staying phenomenally lean in the process. He was by all accounts a gym freak and that allowed him to keep his body weight at an absolute minimum whilst becoming vastly more explosive than when he arrived. Doesn't drink, never smokes, doesn't eat shit...it all adds up.

Lukaku has kept bulking up but in the same way you or I would at the gym. He's ballooning in size but there's no definition, no discipline with his growth and he has become noticeably more and more heavy footed. It's wrong to think this is tiredness - it's because he's overweight. I bet if he lost 5kgs his touch would magically improve and he'd have a bit of a burst of pace about him, not this Victorian steam train like build up in speed he has now.

Pointless. We need to play Sanchez or Martial there if we're going to drop Lukaku.
Totally agree , rashford is terrible up top , can’t understand why he can’t try Sanchez up there (if fit) he played well up there pre season I thought .

Scoring in international friendlies or vs minnows when you have the best squad in world football isn't impressive. How many players from Panama or Tunisia play for Juve/Bayern/Barca/Madrid.
