I always think some of Lukaku's technical issues are exacerbated by his bulk, and that slimming down would help him, make him more agile, get his feet moving quicker in those key initial moments when the ball is coming. When he gets the ball out of his feet his passing is generally good, hit a beautiful ball out to the left for Rashford early on last night, a sweet ping.

Top speed is fantastic but he is so sluggish when having to turn quickly or adjust to weird bounces.
I think that's evident in the video above, he looks way lighter on his feet

Lukaku does not possess the skill set I look out for in a professional footballer(or at least a mildfielder/forward)

1.Close control.
2.Spatial awareness.
3.Ability on the ball.

These have led the team to be one dimensional and predictable;it could be also the reason our midfield is not functioning because of lack of movement in front them.

I expect an attacking coach that will increase the tempo of our build up;make us press collectively;make the forwards stay higher up the pitch ;make our fullbacks overlap and play a defensive high line.

This forward line up could change mous season

-------------Herrera---------
--Fred/Lingard--------Pogba
Rashford----Sanchez--------Martial

The front three can be fluid and interchange position.

Lukaku is not a United Player.

No I think it's a valid point.

You buy a £75m striker to score you goals and make the difference in the big games right?

His big game record at Utd is appalling.

He started his Utd career in great goal scoring form but ever since that first huge drought his goal scoring hasn't been anything special. Saw a stat yesterday that said he scored 7 league goals from October to May.

All I'm saying is at every level he's played scores 20 goals a season. I also struggle to criticise any player in this Utd team within the context of how we are being managed. There is not one player on this team that is playing consistently well. Rom has his limitations but the criticism is laughable when you compare facts against opinions.

How much is he going to fetch when Utd wants to sell him in the summer? Where can he go, assuming that Everton is off the table because of his wages?

Facts? He has scored over 20 goals in the league just once, he bagged 16 last season. Furthermore, to be a contender you need a striker that scores 25+ in the league and then some in the cups. 40 is the new 20.

I don't think he is the problem. Sure he isn't on form at the minute but nobody is. He will score goals if we give him chances but 2/3 half chances a game isn't going to work for anyone.

Half chances are enough for Aguero.

And he may not be THE problem, but he’s a huge part in the problem. He’s the centrepiece of our attack, with the footballing ability of a centre half.

To win the league with this leadweight up front we'd need De Bryune, Hazard and Messi playing behind him. They'd set up so many chances he could afford to miss a couple dozen and still score a hatrick. However we have dross like Lingard, Mata, and Sanchez instead, so we could really do with a better striker.

I'm certain he's a big part of why we are so boring to watch. All the top attacking teams have fluid movement in their front three but this guy can never be part of a fluid front 3 in a team that plays flowing football. His touch and awareness is too bad.

Plus he doesn't move

We created a lot more chances with Zlatan in the side in Mourinho's first season and when you really analyse Lukaku other than his start last season (up to the Liverpool away game) he's been largely shite even if once he did get over that 3 month slump started to find the net again

Annoyingly missed a one on one in that Liverpool game too.

Aguero is one of the best strikers in the world. Just because Lukaku isn't that doesn't mean he isn't good enough.

Which is another negative, his record against the big sides is clearly shit and it's no longer the fact that he was playing those teams at Everton either. Against top defenders he's got zero answers in terms of giving them something to think about

Zlatan was the main man at PSG who are technically one of the best teams in Europe. If you watched them regularly and also with us he would drop deep into midfield and get the ball moving quicker from back to front. He also had a good connection with Pogba which is no surprise because he is also technically good. Lukaku can't build up any understandings with anyone despite the team being set up to get the best out of him. With Martial it was better but he has no connection with any of the other players. Pogba, Sanchez, Rashford. There's nothing instinctive. It's always difficult to guess what you will get from someone with an erratic touch and poor movement.

I really wouldnt know... he came for crazy money and is on crazy wages and if is sold he is going to be sold as a United flop. Who wants a United flop, who could afford Lukaku and would Lukaku want to leave?

I think he will be a United player for many years.

Maybe Chrystal Palace can afford to pay 30m for him when Zaha gets sold for big money. Some lower half PL side will want him on loan and he will agree if he doesn‘t want to sit on the bench under the next manager.

That is like a 50 mil loss over 2 years... i doubt that is going to happen

If any club bids 30m for Lukaku now, Utd should take the money and run. Just like Liverpool did with Benteke, 30m now is much better than paying big wages for a bench player for years and sell him for peanuts like Chelsea did with Torres.

It kind of does tbh. I mean, he isn’t that, and he isn’t good enough.

Anyone else think that not replacing Zlatan properly has hindered us? You could say Lukaku was his direct replacement but I think we could have benefitted having a proper backup striker. I don’t feel Rashford or Martial are up to that task and I don’t see Sanchez as a direct striker either.

It doesn't. Swap Aguero and Lukaku and Rom scores more for City than Aguero does for us I bet.

He wouldn’t. Actually watching the goals Aguero scores for City would tell you that alone. There are very few types of goals Lukaku is actually capable of scoring. He is a centre forward who has terrible shooting technique and variety of finishing. If he were growing up in Rio he would have never made it as a professional footballer.

You probably say this because you think City are a great attacking side, but they will be a lot less great if they just swapped Aguero for Lukaku!

No technically inept player can thrive in City's system. Also Aguero scores a lot of goals Lukaku doesn't have in his locker. He isn't just scoring tap ins. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if Lukaku scored more tap ins for us than Aguero does for City

That's usually Everton's department, any chance they will take hime back ?

I just don't think it's as clear cut as that. Sure they would be a lot less effective with Lukaku instead of Aguero but Aguero wouldn't be hitting 40 goals for us in our current side either. Nobody would when we create 2/3 chances a game at most.

With Aguero instead of Lukaku, your definition of ‘chance’ will change. You will then see we create more than 2/3 chances a game for Aguero. He just doesn’t require 2/3 sitters. A striker who is deadly from anywhere within 25 yards doesn’t require the same type of ‘chance’ as Lukaku.

I refer to the comment from Rio. He said Lukaku is a central defenders easiest kind of player to mark. He is so static. It's one of our biggest problems. Not only his lack og goals but no movement in front of our midfield players.
He always points for the ball to be played to his feet but his first touch is so poor.

Yes the Aguiro comment shows why we don't score. We need a world class striker at United if we have any hope of winning trophies.

He looks distraught and severely needs a break. He was exhausted after the world cup and returned early for Jose. Lets not jump to conclusion on him right now. He was very good last season.

How many minutes has he played since January? The guy needs a week or so rest. On his last legs and probably mentally drained

Idk, but his performances then is too static in my eyes, similar to his form this season minus the better finishing. Even Hazard had a go talked-hinted about it.
It's because of the shit setup

Is he really this static though, when he played for Everton and West Brom(?) ? Genuine qs.
Yes and no. He scored a lot of goals against lower opposition but his goals return against the top 4 was poor.

It still is.

What's his return for us against, City,Liverpool,Spurs,Chelsea,Arsenal?

He is shite for Belgium against top sides. He also has Eden Hazard and KDB playing with him.

It's true even Blind found it easy to defend against him when he was as at Everton

That’s the main fecking issue though, of course it does!! United should always strive to have elite attacking players and wonderkids on the up. Lukaku simply isn’t, and that’s a big part of why we suck. And before some smuck tells me «there are no good strikers in the market», well, there always is - and it’s someone’s job to find them. Both the manager and the scouts. We have the money, we just spent them unwisely.
