To me it seems the problem is just not Lukaku, its also the way we are set up. The way we play now reminds me very much of how Chelsea played vs good team in Mouhrinos first period there with Drogba as a lone striker. So the problem is not only Lukaku not being good enough, he is also being asked to perform a role he is not good enough to perform and its frankly baffling that Mou cant see that

At this point it just seems that Mourinho isn't capable of setting us up in any other way, or perhaps he has become such an ideologue (ironically) that he refuses to play any other way. We have 3 other strikers who could be tried when Lukaku is out of form but he just won't adapt his system for them.

He has become a liability this season. With under performing team and non scoring forward it's hard to get any points.

He should be dropped for few games.

Arnautovic might be a unpopular choice but he's a great player and is probably better than Lukaku now. He's poor man's Ibra basically. Shame about Lukaku, it's hard to play in this team under Mourinho but everything he does is off, he should start from workrate again, he looks like the laziest striker around.
Arnautovic is the more able footballer. More talent and a slightly insane edge to his character that would translate into hunger for goals at Utd. Looks like the kind of player who would get the honour of playing for the club. He's even upped his efforts for West Ham. That's the problem with half the players we've got. They don't seem to appreciate that it's a special opportunity to play for Utd. Horrible to witness, but Liverpool's lot seem to "get" playing for Liverpool, something which stems from the manager there.

Reminds of Heskey at times
What makes you say that?

The way we set up is causing him to miss sitters, fail to control a ball and fail to execute a step over? The set up is forcing him to not move for the ball and offer an option? Although Jose’s tactics are trash don’t take the accountability away from the player.

The faults in his game demonstrated right at the start of his career are still there. The lack of movement, lack of awareness etc. Where he excels is when the ball is played for him to run on to. We either change the system and style or ship him out.

With Belgium he flatters to deceive as he has KDB,Hazard,Merthens;technically gifted players that Utd don't have right now.

What's clear is that he does not work with Rash or Martial

This forensic way of looking at any player's game is meaningless when set against the context of the team. Who the feck is playing consistently well anyway? Rom is what he is but what he has done since 16 years old is score goals. The lad has 100 prem goals playing for shite clubs, and anyone that knows or plays football at any level will say it's the hardest thing to do on a football pitch especially year on year. The ability to do that is fecking harder than a bloody step over. You can have your opinion but the facts say different and already proven when you watch him in the World Cup terrorise the Brazilian team, play him the right way and to his strengths and with his skill set (even if it's limited) will score goals.

He doesn't flatter to deceive, you still need the ability to score and there's been a long line here at Utd of forwards that had gifted players here that didn't. Rom has proved his ability to score 20+ goals every season playing for bloody West Brom and Everton. Where's the gifted players there as the some big slice of luck to be able to score 100 goals especially when it's only you in the side scoring them and the opposition know it....

If he was playing with Giggs, Becks, Scholes et al, but the fecking team is broken in all departments so I don't understand the forensic view of him or others without that context...

I cant watch him anymore. His touch makes me want to vomit. His so fortunate to have such an athetlic physique and great atheletic attributes but my god his a terrible technician. Takes him about 15 seconds to get the ball under control and even then, he needs to get it out of his feet and let loose quickly because dwelling on it he just embarasses himself.

Hell score a lot of goals, but how many of them are meaningful?

How many big big goals has he truly mustered up in the premiership to make you think YES, i trust this guy when we have that 1 chance in a game against a rival or for an important point.

His a flat track bully playing with timberlands on his feet.

Absolutely ridiculous statement....Ask Everton or West Brom fans were his goals kept them up. Oh, you don't get extra points for scoring against the top 4 teams. Oh, you don't score 100 goals wearing timberlands either otherwise there would be more players who'd done it in only 220 games....all the others who have played for prem winning teams where they scored 90% of their scores, maybe except Shearer.

Though it ain't responsible for dreadful scoring form. Dreadful coaching, lack of support, and being used as a target man compounds the problem. Each and every player looks better in their international teams, is an indication, what we hired as managers have no clue about how to use our players.

We will never win a title with Lukaku in our team.

Who would've thought Everton was his level

How can anyone still defend him at this point ? I can't get it.

He gave a nice interview which shows he has the right attitude :p
I really do worry that he is giving extra training to Rashford

I don’t want to hate on him but the performances have been so poor. This is the worst spell of form he’s ever had in his career since he signed for Chelsea.

Last season he went 20 games scoring 4, I think that may have been worse

Think he will be benched for a better striker in the next 2 years max. His abilities don't match his mental toughness, more's the pity.

No I think it's a valid point.

You buy a £75m striker to score you goals and make the difference in the big games right?

His big game record at Utd is appalling.

He started his Utd career in great goal scoring form but ever since that first huge drought his goal scoring hasn't been anything special. Saw a stat yesterday that said he scored 7 league goals from October to May.

Think that was the reality from the very day he signed. We needed some goals to get us from E to B, but definitely a bit more to get us to A.

I have no issue with him.
I have an issue with him not being subbed, or him being played almost every minute and having no competition.

He’s simply in bad form and hasn’t looked right all season. Should be benched or at least subbed in games but Jose won’t do that.

He wasn't that good. Even when playing in a star studded Belgium team he only scores against small teams. No real impact against top quality opposition although he was quite good for 1 half against Brazil.

Don't agree with that, to be honest. Thought he played really well outside of just scoring goals. He looked really sharp and fast and was a lot better than "quite good" against Brazil. He's playing awful now, but the signs in the World Cup were positive. He looked fit and everything was pointing to him having a good season with us.

Alas, that's not the case at the moment.

They were not, he ran around a lot but he was poor, and many were calling for him to be dropped

I disagree, i thought that even though he wasn't scoring goals he was still a part of a functioning team, in stark contrast to what he's delivering now.

I have no idea why he isn't being benched, or subbed off for that matter, with the way he's playing now.

Yes he has a bad touch, a very bad one and seems to be lazy lately, always sitting in the box doing nothing and not putting himself available in the construction phase.

He's out of form and, most importantly, tired as fek. The guy was sweating like shite in the 60th minute and you can;'t say that he ran like a horse in the 1st 60 minutes.

He really needs a rest.

I think he’ll be out once another manager comes in. He isn’t cut out for this level, but he’ll score goals at a lower prem team. With the money going in the league these days I doubt we’ll struggle to get a buyer for him.

Can’t see most managers who would probably come in to this job looking at him and thinking that this is the man to spearhead their attack.

Problem with that is we need to buy a new RW, a CDM as Matic's getting on, a CB probably, and a RB if Dalot does not settle in quickly. We also have no true #10 which is scandalous for a top club, as we won't be playing 4-3-3 all the time. And this is the minimum requirement.

I don't see us going for a new striker next summer with all the other positions that require attention. Maybe the summer after next, possibly.
