So why is he scoring much more frequently for his national team than for us?
He has some of the best players in the world creating chances, plays in a better team and often against worse teams than he faces for us. Which means he gets more chances and better chances for Belgium. If we could consistently create chances he would score more goals. His performances for us haven't helped him either.

Give over ffs. This sort of post is everything that’s wrong with redcafe. Preferred player gets criticised, deflects by having a go at non-preferred player :boring:

Theres nothing wrong with it FFS. Many players are not treated accordingly. Why is Lukaku the subject of ridicule in the media for instance for that poor piece of play when he got the two goals? Bale has been tragic his last two games for Wales, including missing a sitter against the farmers of Hungary for instance, but the media and fan agenda of hate won't take a motherfecking day off from finding a reason to criticize a player who's become one of the poster boys for 'everything that's wrong at Unite'. I'll bring these examples up all day long

Definitely. And the creating in our team is much much worse compared to what Belgium have to offer.

plays against crap teams?
Plays with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Hazard instead of number 10s who excel at running maybe? As posted in another reply, Switzerland, Iceland, Tunisia, Japan, Mexico, Greece are all decent teams.

With a good supply of chances he'll score goals. The problem with saying its purely because of the players hes playing with is that Chelsea have had problems with their striker, and yet Lukaku is doing well in a team with him.

Having KDB and Hazard in the team, Belgium mostly need a finisher from their striker because the supply of chances will come. Thats what we dont have.

KDB 3.3 key passes per 90 mins, Hazard 3 key passes per 90 mins

Here was United's from last season :

Thats the struggle going forward. Our player who created the most chances was unpopular and not playing, Pogba was down a lot from previous seasons in his creativity, whilst scoring more himself.

How anyone still defends a player who doesn't even keep himself fit is beyond me.

Perhaps if we sign KdB and Hazard and Meunier we can count on him to score consistently against relegation fodder.

He scored 25 league goals at Everton the season before we signed him. His record at international level is impeccable. I wonder who the problem is here.

It's common sense.

No worries, we'll bin Lukaku and find this mythical striker that can put away 50% of the chances he gets.

Lukaku has some ridiculous misses that shouldn't be happening, but those aside, it's the rest of his play that's the real problem. Give me a striker that puts away the same percentage as Lukaku but can control a football, and I'll be happy. We'll be far better in the final third for it.

Apart from the shocking and numbing truth that our team is utter garbage at chance creation - how the feck is Jesse much lower than Young? Young literally spends all game aimlessly punting the ball around. He is the statistical equivalence to a control group that stands there toe punting the ball randomly.

It's pretty clear that our two 'attacking' players Jesse and Lukaku actively avoid taking part in games when we are playing. That is the only explanation for making such a negative impact on games.

Yet our home record when we finished 2nd was very good and that was with Lukaku at number 9 and Jesse at number 10. It never got any credit, they never got any credit and it is never spoken about because at the time all that was happening was criticism for how we played.

Lukaku was poor for a lot of last season and when he’s poor he has an unfortunate habit of doing buffoonish stuff like stepping on the football. Plus his workrate is usually terrible, covering less ground than almost every player in his position. Hence he attracts a lot of criticism and mockery. Bale’s miss last night is literally the subject of newspaper headlines today (unlike Lukaku’s) so don’t know why you bring him up.

I think we might get more out of Lukaku if we played to his strengths and stopped trying to use him as a target man. Like Belgium do. Prolific strikers are very expensive and hard to find, so maybe our best option is holding onto him and hoping he improves. Every now and then he does put in a performance where his link up play looks quality. So maybe he can do that consistently?

The lack of effort is hard to defend though. But defend it you will, no doubt. I’d obviously prefer if that defence didn’t involve taking the piss out of a young player who has yet to kick a ball for us but just showed a lot of promise for his NT.

Play to a players strengths, he plays better. Belgium seem to manage it but an even more critical point they have world class players around him unlike us. Leaving him playing off the defenders shoulder with quality playing balls between the lines and you see a different Rom. Anyone that thinks we have enough goals here, think against cause the type of goals Rom scores, no one here offers the same. Yep maybe there's someone else out there but who?

It’s a sheep mentality. It is very easy to clown Lukaku and get people to agree and laugh with you.

He was laughed at because of his donkey touches. Nothing more, nothing less. And terrible fitness level, and not scoring enough against decent opponents...
Hey, I don't dislike him personally, I just don't fancy the type of football we play with him in the team. Guess we have our own favorite, as shown by your constant moaning in Martial.

The fact that Lukaku himself is bottom of that list is also an issue. A good striker should create, as well as take, chances.

It also highlights his inconsistency. Because we’ve seen him create some chances with brilliant short passes around the box. Unfortunately they’re obviously very few and far between.

Aguero makes 1 and Kane makes 1.1. Lukaku also barely gets a chance to make those passes. His crossing is also good.

This whole thread is interesting because it shows just how crap our other attackers are. Confused because there is some really good stuff in there from Rom. So much so that I don't think I want rid of him.....:nervous:

He's a good player, great goalscorer and sometimes gets unnecessary hate but we really need to move him on. It's all very well saying he'd thrive with better players around him, but his movement was non-existent for most of last season and he looked so unfit. He's just not a United player it's that simple, he'll always score goals but he'll never offer enough as our main striker. If Inter come in with £65M we should snatch their hand off.

48 international goals at just 26 is bananas though, no matter how you spin it. Other strikers play or have played those same countries in equally great teams.

Van Persie ended at 50, Henry at 51 and Rooney at 53. Far better players of course, but just to counter the whole "any decent striker could do that".

People forget all of this stuff. It’s easy to blame him for everything. We finished 2nd and people still complained so it does not surprise me.

Can't believe he has scored over forty goals in two seasons for United. Feels like when we talk about him he's scored like twelve in two seasons.

Yeah some of them are, but that is international football for you. It didn't stop many on here wanking over England getting to the Semi-Finals of the World Cup, playing the likes of Panama, Tunisia, Colombia, Switzerland and Sweden along the way did it?

I don't care if many got hyped over England, it has nothing to do with lukkaku who hasn't proven himself. He's just not good enough.

Hasn't proven himself to who exactly genius, to you? He might turn out to be not good enough long term, but he's a pretty good striker and the best we have.

People should be careful for what they wish for. I think Lukaku under the right manager like Roberto Martinez would flourish. If we sell him who do we buy? I don't see a long line of players half as decent wanting to join us at the moment!

He looked massive again last night against Scotland. Like some defensive lineman

Did the red jersey made him look big or did he once again added some muscles for the Internationals?

Dont even understand Lukaku debate. He is good striker, who is able to score goals, regardless of opinions of him being flat track bully or not. In the same time, he also possesses a touch of concrete wall and is football version of Bermuda triangle where most of build up play vanishes.

When we signed him up, there was this notion about him being a target man, which clearly he isnt, he doesnt win most headers when we hoof like clowns, his hold up play could be better with his size etc.

He needs to be fed while not being included in setting up a table on the first place and lets be clear, we are clueless at feeding, hell we dont even know where are our plates, forks and knifes at.

Don't think he's anywhere near good enough for Utd but I wouldn't force him out just yet. We've already paid the money for him, he's still young with room to improve under the right management/coaching,on his day he can be a real handful for defenders, and who else is out there that we could realistically get in our present predicament ?

Because despite giving the ball away a lot (same with Sanchez) eventually all the long balls and millions of attempted crosses when most are rubbish, eventually Young finds something that leads to a chance.

Lukaku barely gets the ball and is mostly looking to be around the box and get on the end of chances - same thing he does for Belgium btw, they arent passing it into his feet and playing off him. Their players do the buildup play and he gets on the end of things.

Lingard is mostly invisible and then tries to keep the ball rather than creating something. One of the reasons he's nowhere near good enough in the hole, or from the right.

The thing is, he can put in one off performances where he does dominate in the air. For example he won 10 headers against Everton despite threads being made that Everton have a better defense than us after the game.

So he can do it, he just doesn't do it. And thats frustrating.
