They'll come back tomorrow or on Monday.

Ha ha ! Good one. It’s just incredible how people seem to have the same opinion no matter what. I thought he performed the second best today after Pogba. At work, I went through a course called “unconcious bias”. I think some folks just make up their mind and no matter what and stick to it. In the course they used a lot of examples. One of them was an experiment where a world famous violinist played with a multi-million dollar violin outside a tube station in New York. But because of the way he dressed and looked, after hours of playing got hardly any tips. People tended to focus on his looks and the way he dressed than listening to his amazing music ....

In 2007, as part of a social experiment for a Washington Post magazine article by Gene Weingarten, the renowned violinist, Joshua Bell, posed as a street performer in the Metro to see if hurried commuters could recognize beauty in their midst. He worde a baseball cap, stood by the escalators in the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station in D.C., and opened his violin case for tips. (The case, by the way, that normally houses his multi-million dollar Stradivari violin.) To make a long story short: almost no one noticed him.

When he plays as the archetypical big man up front he's pretty crap. He's got goals when we've been battering demoralised teams but more often than not the ball's bouncing off his shins. Give him a bit of space and let him run at players from deep and he's a menace.

Possibly his best game for us. Excellent second half and I thought he did ok first half. For a bloke on the barren spell he was on he constantly showed for the ball and no thought of hiding.

Perhaps it was his response to having Zlatan breathing down his neck. If so then that looks a right battle for pole position.

He knows if the team create chances he'll get his goals.

It was like I said - with Zlatan on the pitch he'd be moved to the right.

Happy he got his goal.

He has a very very poor right foot. And playing him as a regular in the right is nonsense. I can understand pushing him to the right on few occasions but not a starter there. I hate the idea of a right footed player on the left and a left footed player on the right, it is a weakness in the buildup and the chance creation because they have to stop every time and cross with favorite foot. Unless the player is equally talented in both feet like De Bruyne and have no problem shooting or passing with both feet.

Lukaku has scored many goals with his weaker foot. Check PL stats, they give proper breakdown.

I was happy that he scored last night, He deserved it, He was excellent I thought, I hope this starts a run of games for him in terms of goal-scoring.

He needs to stop with that stupid stand there with his arms spread celebration. It stinks of arrogance. Only certain players can justify that, and he certainly isn’t one of them, that’s for sure.

Why doesn’t he just run over towards the supporters or do a knee slide or something?

I dont need stats. I've seen his right foot passing, crossing and shooting. Im not saying he is useless with his right foot, but for an example:- compared to Giggsy's right foot Lukakus's right foot is bad.

He can do what he wants as long as he keeps scoring.

His weaker foot isn't very very poor, it's not as strong as players like Nani but more than good enough to score goals from right side.

A sort of interesting stat I read today is that Lukaku has scored in 7 PL Matches this season. No other striker has scored in more than 6. Kane has only scored in 4 PL Matches which is quite poor.

As he struck the ball on Saturday I legit thought he had hammered it over, was really relieved and happy when it went in.Thought he played quite well in general and I hope this is the catalyst for a run of good performances

That's what you want from your striker. Better to score one every week than get a few then go a few weeks without another.

And don't many Fantasy-managers agree, including me.... fecking Kane. I will 100% not captain him the next time he scores four goals out of nothing.

What the hell

Currently averaging something like a total of 25 goals this season, which we can agree is good enough. Not if the rest of the players aren't chipping in of course, then he needs to end up at 30+ which is very difficult in England. Both Martial and Pogba are scoring goals this year, especially Martial can get 15 if gets to play like he finally did against Newcastle.

He can pull his shorts down and light a fart candle for all I care as long as he puts the ball in the net

Time stood still on that goal, at least for me. I don't think I've ever urged someone on for a goal like I did that time.

The goals need to matter. Like the one he scored against Southampton which won us 3 points. This goal against Newcastle was quite pointless except for the fact that it has given him his confidence back. Now we need him to score the key goals that break open resistant defenses, or the goals that secure the win.

Scored the opening 2 goals against WHU, the second assuring goal against Swansea, the 2-1 goal against Stoke, the winning goal against South, the second assuring goal against Basel and the opening goal against Cska.

He also assisted the second assuring goal against Everton and the winning goal against Spurs.

Let's not start a myth of him scoring meaningless goals. His goals and assists have been very important for us so far.

At 3-1 Newcastle could have scored and it's back to 1 goal up, not that assuring win any more.

Almost all his goals are crucial goals.

So it did matter, and it wasn't pointless then?

Lukaku has been absolutely crucial this season in opening up the game for us (him and Pogba are most important for us going forward). A large part of the reason why Martial and Rashford have been much better this season is because they are not relied upon to be our presence up front.

Last season Ibra would drop into the no.10 role meaning there was one less threat up top so Martial and Rashford were much more easily managed. Lukaku stays up top for most of the game; he doesnt get involved too much in the build up, instead he occupies the defenders.

Lukaku with a proper no.10 behind him is extremely exciting. Ibra and Mata sharing that no.10 role could be really good going forward.

For him. Not for our performance.

And I never said his goals have been meaningless in the past. Just saying he needs to get his form back, and this goal was good for that alone.

I don't understand this logic at all.
It's important that our main striker scores goals, any goal - I don't care if he scores a 2 yard tap-in, in a 6-0 victory over Brighton. Every goal is important.

I want a selfish striker who wants to score in every single game, even if its meaningless.

We're chasing City who are scoring for fun, and if we do manage to close the gap on points then GD will play a crucial part in this.
Or, more likely - GD could be the difference between us finishing 2nd and finishing 3rd/4th.

That's not what I meant. Oh well, let's leave it at that.

All goals are important goals because football isn't played in a vacuum. A 4-1 win is objectively better than a 3-1 win. You'd think that United fans would know better than anyone that there's no such thing as "unimportant goals" given we've lost a title and a CL spot on goal difference just within the last few years.

Also, a four goal victory feels quite wholesome as a fan. As far as his contribution in the game goes, he setup our third with a beautiful cross. A three goal cushion also meant that we could bring on Zlatan for final few minutes without any pressure.

This is the same logic Everton fans used to explain to the world that they didn't need Lukaku and would be ok without him.

Are you all right?

The tagline suits you well.

He's actually pretty dangerous on the right wing. I remember in 13/14 he scored against Arsenal while cutting in from the RW position.
